SOCIAL VALUE
The Public Services Act, 2012
Social value is a way of thinking about how scarce resources are allocated and used.It involves looking beyond the price of each individual contract and looking at what the collective benefit to a community is when a public body chooses to award a contract.
Alistair McAuleyManaging Director, AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK & Ireland
Here at AkzoNobel Decorative Paints UK & Ireland we want to play a positive role in creating a brighter, more sustainable future for our planet and our communities. We are committed to finding new possibilities of working in partnership with others to deliver innovative, high quality, sustainable solutions to our customers. We also remain committed to providing community projects to positively colour 1 million plus lives by 2020. Our expanded social value offer is another fantastic step towards this goal.
Legal RequirementsIn line with the 2012 Public Services Act, public sector organisations must now consider how their supply chain partners can add real social value to the communities in which they operate. Rather than awarding contracts solely on the ability to offer best value.Government bodies must choose suppliers who can provide community investment which will have a positive impact on those living in the area.
Our CommitmentIn return for specification of AkzoNobel products, we can offer a range of social value initiatives to support and enhance the lives of residents; from training opportunities to local community painting projects.
We also support contractors tendering for public sector contracts, adding further value to their social value proposals that are part of the bid.
By working together collaboratively we can build brighter outcomes for communities.
All our initiatives are measured through the Housing Associations’ Charitable Trust (HACT) wellbeing values to define the social value they deliver so you can be assured of the great benefit they will have.
Working with you to add real social value
AkzoNobel is committed to offering a range of Social Value initiatives working directly with our customers and supporting local communities aligned with our own CSR Values.

Alternative solutions to help support communities
Community RePaint is a UK wide paint reuse network, that aims to collect leftover paint and redistribute it charities, community groups and those in social need at an affordable cost.
Dulux are its sole sponsor and we have just celebrated the 25th anniversary of working together. Our support enables the charity to continue to grow and thrive and we ensure the scheme collects paint from all providers, not just ours. There are currently 70 schemes in the UK.
RePaint redistributed over 2.5 million litres in the last 10 years, and by 2025 the network aims to increase redistribution from 300,000 to 500,00 litres and extend their reach from 70 distribution centres to 100.
