Well another season has flown past and it has been filled with some epic snow, wonderful adventures and I’m sure plenty of new memories made.

The 2019 season saw everything from a bit of grass skiing to some of the best powder the Snowies has seen in years, so I guess all our praying to the snow gods worked! With lots of exciting upgrades and changes happening over the summer holidays particularly in Thredbo with the new Merritt’s Gondola and the continued domination of the Perisher Epic pass! All whilst both resorts are catering to the summer adventurers with hiking and mountain bike riding becoming more and more popular! We hope everyone has a wonderful Spring/Summer season and that you even catch some fresh tracks in resorts abroad so stay safe, remember to use that magic button and focus, and see you all next season! (Also is anyone else in a mild crisis that next year will be 2020? My mind is blown!)

Sophie & Pip

Sayonara Merritt’s Chair – a piece of Thredbo history

Built in 1967/68 it was the third ski lift to be built in Thredbo! However, with the snow and Snowsports becoming increasingly popular and the older, semi-questionable safety of good ole’ Merits Chair means that a high-speed Gondola will be built during the 2019/20 summer in Thredbo to replace the Merritt’s double Chairlift! With new additions come fond farewells and after decades of service you can now own a piece of Thredbo history, as they are auctioning off the chairs to raise funds for charities and non-profits such as; Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation, Disabled Wintersport Australia, Thredbo Early Childhood Centre, The Fly Program, Jindabyne Trail Stewardship, Thredbo Volunteer Ski Patrol! Auction is still open till October 5th if you’re interested!

Thredbo lodge will be closed for bathroom renovations

The closure will cover Tuesday 28th January – Friday 3rd April. All bathrooms except rooms 5 & 6 will be renovated (5 & 6’s bathrooms were recently completely rebuilt). We can’t wait to see the update next year!

Congratulations to all of the Dulmison Junior Racers who spent hours on and off snow preparing themselves for the lead up races, regional, state and ultimately nationals which was held at Mount Buller in blizzard conditions.

In addition to Interschool’s the Dulmison junior racers also excelled in the Blue Cow Cup, TSRC Cup, the ACT Schools Cup, The Redlands Cup, the Scots Cup and all the way up to the Australian Championships at the FIS level.

The Mogul Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships brought together the best young snow sports athletes in the country, with competitors qualifying through their regional then state competitions. Australian Interschools continues to go from strength to strength and this year over 4000 children competed in the competition making it one of the biggest sporting competitions in Australia. Qualifying for the Nationals is an accomplishment in itself and the 2019 Mogul Ski World Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships! at Mount Buller was held under challenging conditions:

+ 334 Schools

+ 3674 event entries

+ 315 Volunteers

+ thredbo lodge update

by brendan & kim

So, the last of the season has come and gone and now the spring feast is upon us.

August saw a mixed bag of skiing and conditions. From blue bird days to dog blown off the chain winds and the weather seemed to be week about. One week sunny and nice, the following week…well!

For some, the on-mountain weather was important. For others (e.g. Joe R ) skiing was not a priority. A few beers and a whisky here and there, was the perfect get away. For others, like Wayne Jones, it was chance to give to 205cms a spin. Yes, a blast from the past and yes, he could ski them well.

Some went out of their comfort zones only to BELIEVE, that all runs are skiable. After being led into the bluff by “someone”, Meaghan Lucas was proud of her self- another challenge conquered. Others learned the hard way that’s It’s not a good idea to ride the T bar with stock straps in use !! (No names...)

And at what odds? As per usual there were a few bumps n bruises. Kim, yes cookie Kim, had more than most. Taken out by a skier, when there were only two skiers in the immediate vicinity and guess what -the other skier was actually a lodge guest: – that we were not skiing with!! Thankfully recovery did happen -, after an x-ray (-cleared of a break) a new pair of goggles, and a thumb guard the recovery was complete.

Highlight 1. Charlie’s Angels 1 and Thursday night party time. See photo. The Doctors and the Angels night - Dr Brenton &Anne Kermode, Dr Les (aka Charlie)& Paula Schrieber, Dr Allan & Marjolein Forest, Dr Allen Turnbull & Jo Searson mixed brilliantly with the Angels-, Carolyn Appleton, Deb Johnson , Monique Corah ,Susie Sargent and Michelle Mitford. A fun week and particularly the Thursday night.

Highlight 2 - Charlie’s Angels 2 - yes in one month, two lots of Mums (Charlies) on tour – lips are sealed!

Week 3 of august saw the wind blow and blow and blow- a lot of wind hold lifts -tip if winds are 60 kph + check the direction, because there is a high chance of wind hold. The patience award goes to Dr Allen Turnbull- and hour in lift queues because of the wind, was a small price to pay to get another run in.

And congratulations to Martin Orth - PAW champion (penny against the wall ) after tense competition from Kara Orth and Brenda McFee

Dumbo award to Brendan- stepped out of bindings to get a coffee, unseen by moi, the ski brake had come loose. The result, a single ski had a “free ski” for some 250 metres, down high noon. Picked up new skis 2 days later!! Travellers award, again, goes to Elizabeth Fryer and Anne Marie Mitford – they have had more skiing than Kim & I combined!

Till next time, see you then and can’t wait for the “new” Thredbo lodge!

+ booking system and membership updateIn Issue 02 of the Dulmison Dump we announced some details of the new web-based booking system and the plan to introduce the system for Summer 2019.

As we draw closer to implementing the new booking system, timely to remind everyone about some features and consequences of the new system.

Some features:

+ Each member will have a unique log-in and password.

+ For Dual Members, one member will be allocated as the primary member for booking system purposes– a necessary step to fit in with the booking system architecture. The allocation of the primary member tag for booking system purposes can be changed on request.

+ Initially the system will require entry of details for dependants and guests. Subsequently the system will automatically recognise member categories and dependents from previous bookings.

+ It will provide vacancy schedules for both lodges.

+ Check-boxes allow for special needs (e.g. dietary requirements).

+ It automatically assesses booking priorities and

such things as minimum/ maximum stays etc.

+ Email confirmation is automatically generated for

each Booking Request, Booking confirmation (and

invoice), receipt, follow-up and cancellations.

+ It will include a credit card payment option.

+ Booking priorities and accommodation rates are

linked to member category and dependency

status. Dual Members are two specified

Members in the same family unit, residing in

the same household. For accommodation rates

purposes a child of a Member (Single or Dual)

can be either:

– a dependent child, being i) a child aged under

21 years, or ii) a child aged 21 years to under

25 years who is a full-time student at a school,

college or university (adopting the Australian

Taxation Office definition); or

– an independent child – being a child aged

under 25 years who is not a dependent child.

Please direct any questions about the new system

or membership category to the Club through
