Dubbo South Public School Respect, Care, Cooperation & Responsibility From Sharon’s desk Well done to our Stage 3 students for you concert held last week, “The Greatest Show”. What a wonderful effort form all staff, students and helpers. The Greatest Show was a great opportunity to showcase the talent of singers Latana Eulo-Gibbs, Laah McMillan and Bailey Auld as well as those involved in dancing and drama. It was a great way to conclude the concerts for the year. Creave Arts is definitely alive and well at Dubbo South! Our Kindergarten students for 2019 have been aending each Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for the past two weeks. Parent Expos will be held on Wednesday and Thursday aſternoons this week with representave from a range of services and staff members to engage you in answering any quesons, queries on Office Procedures, Literacy Programs, Speech Pathology, Canteen and Uniform Shop to name a few. I encourage all parents to drop off their child and then stay around for these informaon conversaons. Coffee and tea will be offered in our community room each aſternoon from 2.15pm. Drop in and meet some other parents and ask quesons. See you there. There have been a few issues over the past week of which I would appreciate parent support. Could you please discuss the following issues with your child or children as they are of major concern from a school and safety perspecve. Supervision before school. Official supervision does not begin unl 9am. From 8.30am execuve staff are able to provide minimal supervision. Prior to 8.30am there are NO teachers on playground supervision. I understand that some parents work early and drop their children off at 8.15 when the gates open. It is obviously important for parents to un- derstand that even though the children are safely entering the school and sing around the blue wall area they are NOT supervised unl 8.30am. Technically you are responsi- ble for your children unl this me. It would be helpful if you could find other opons from family, friends or other parents who could accompany your child to school aſter 8.30am. Behaviour for Stage 2 and 3 students are being tracked and monitored with their own personal monitoring sheets. Please be assured if any issued regarding behaviour both posive and negave for your child, you will be kept informed either by phone, email or remind app. All students are looking forward to events such as Big Day Out at the Pool, Year 6 Farewell, Talent Quest or end of year class pares. Students may be withdrawn from aending these events if correct behaviours are not followed. As you would understand all events are earned not expected. Dubbo South Public School is a phone free area. Any student who arrives at school with a personal phone must leave it in the office at all mes. There is no reason for students to have a mobile phone whilst at school during the day. Phones have been used for the wrong reasons and privacy is of the utmost importance. Suspension has certainly been applied for misusing phones. We certainly educate children about responsible use of technology. If you have any concerns regarding these issues raised in this newsleer please feel free to contact the school. We can all work together on this. Premiers Reading Challenge General PRC (Premier’s Reading Challenge) certificates are ready to be printed. These are the standard certificates. They will be handed out at stage assemblies after this week. Platinum and other certificates are sent to the school. When these arrive they will be given out at a whole school assembly before the end of the year. Thank you to all parents and students who took the time to log their books. Congratulations to all students who completed the challenge.

Book Club Books should be back in the next day or two. The post office is busy at this time of year. Issue 8 is the final issue for the year. Pamphlets will be sent home this week. Orders for issue 8 will be due by Friday 30th November. A short time frame however it is necessary to get all orders back and sorted before the end of the year. Thank you for your continued support.

End Of Term As the end of the year is almost here, we ask everyone to find and return all school resources. If your child comes home with an overdue notice from the library, it is not a demand for payment but a request to search for that book or books. Sometimes books are returned without going via the computer or other errors may occur. We try to search for the books here at school but there is not always time. Thank you for caring. Year 6 and other students leaving our school – we would really appreciate the return of all resources.

Holiday Reading Start having a look at our e-books for something to read over the holidays. There are some audio titles available also. I will put some links in next week’s newsletter. Sue Buttrey Teacher Librarian

News from Zahara our Sponsor Child We asked Moses (the founder of Life Charity Focus Uganda) to deliver a birthday gift for Zahara when he returned home after his visit to Dubbo South. We have received photos and a thank you letter from our gorgeous sponsor child Zahara in Uganda. Her new dress fits her perfectly and she loves her new doll. Zahara has written a thank you letter to the children and staff at our school. Many wonderful life lessons are learnt through this sponsorship, not only is Zahara benefiting, the children at our school are as well. Mrs Alexandra Prince

Gundabooka National Park Eight Year 6 boys as well as 2 Year 7 boys from South Campus attended a leadership camp overnight at Gundabooka National Park near Bourke. Over the two days the boys were engaged in learning about Aboriginal Culture and participated in activities to create a sense of identity and self worth. The boys were well behaved and were a credit to their families and this school. A big thankyou to Contarf and Alan Hall for subsidising and providing this opportunity for these boys. It is a very worthwhile part of the transition program from Year 6 to Year 7.

Well Done Alex! On Friday, Alex competed in the state final of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition. He was one of 13 finalists from across NSW, with the winner coming from Bronte Public School. Alex gave a strong performance in both his prepared and impromptu speeches, tackling the topics Human Rights and Wrongs, and No Direction.

Soccer The senior boys and girls soccer teams travelled to Mudgee to play in a Western Sydney Wanderers Gala Day. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the game was cancelled. However, the students were able to participate in a 3 hour skills day. The students enjoyed every moment learning and playing modified games of soccer with the development officers. The development officers were extremely impressed with our students and we will now be working with Western Sydney Wanderers and will hopefully have them attend our school in the future to run more workshops.
