Mock Examinations The Year 13 Mock Examinations will take place from Sunday 8 th until Thursday 19th April inclusive as per the timetable that has been produced by the Director of Examinations, Mr Miles. Full study leave conditions apply during this fortnight (see section 3 below). 2. Drop-in Week From the week beginning Sunday 20th May until Thursday 24th May the school will operate a `drop-in week' for Y13 students. A `drop-in week' means that Y13 teaching staff will be available for students to consult during their normal timetabled lessons. Some Y13 teachers may also use this time to run formal taught lessons and they will notify students in advance if this is the case. Student attendance is non-compulsory during this week unless arranged by a teacher. This means that parents will have the option of allowing their daughter/son to revise at home when there is no lesson or examination timetabled. The Sixth Form Centre will remain open during the entirety of this period from lam until 4.45pm daily. All students are welcome to conduct revision in school during this time. Full study leave begins on Monday 28th May from when students will have the option of either 27th studying at home or in school. Please note that the school is closed on Sunday May for staff training. 3. Study Leave arrangements Students are more than welcome to study in school during study leave. We understand the importance of having the option of a silent haven where they can study purposefully and we respect the need for Sixth Formers to have the flexibility to structure their own time, thus students are free to enter and leave school at the times of their choice. By choosing to come into school, they are accepting the following four non-negotiable rules: Every student must sign in immediately upon arrival to school and must sign out just before leaving the premises. We are legally obliged to know which students are on school premises at any given moment, so signing in and signing out is imperative, especially before and after examinations. The sign-in/sign-out sheet will be located in the main school reception. All Year 13 students will be issued with a Study Leave pass enabling them to leave the premises whenever they choose to do so. All students must be in school uniform at all times they are on school premises. pup ASta gsuuJl L 5IJI,ovuj-0J10.xiin.o. Dear Y13 and your parents,

Y13 GCE Advanced Level Examinations 2018

The Summer Term is beginning to appear on the horizon and I am sure that your thoughts are already turning towards the mock and real examinations, the prospect of study leave and the excitement of moving to the next chapter in your lives post-Dubai College. I hope that this letter serves as a useful tool in helping to navigate the various complexities of what we all hope will be a very productive Term 3.

1. Mock Examinations The Year 13 Mock Examinations will take place from Sunday 8th until Thursday 19th April inclusive as per the timetable that has been produced by the Director of Examinations, Mr Miles.

Please note that the school is closed on Sunday May for

staff training.

3. Study Leave arrangements Students are more than welcome to study in school during study leave. We understand the importance of having the option of a silent haven where they can study purposefully and we respect the need for Sixth Formers to have the flexibility to structure their own time, thus students are free to enter and leave school at the times of their choice. By choosing to come into school, they are accepting the following four non-negotiable rules:

• Every student must sign in immediately upon arrival to school and must sign out just before leaving the premises.

• All students must be in school uniform at all times they are on school premises.

• We operate a very straightforward system of two zones within the Sixth Form centre: the study area and the Common Room. The study area should be silent at all times apart from regular break time (9.35-9.55) and lunch time (12.25-13.25) and the Common Room is available for anyone who wishes not to study silently. Students are also asked to go to the Common Room before and after examinations when there is an understandably great temptation to talk about that examination.

• The collection, delivery and consumption of food and drink from external food outlets is not permitted during school hours.

If students have a re-sit examination in Mathematics, Design Technology or Government and Politics prior to 20th May, they will be eligible for Study Leave on the day of the examination itself and the day before; they are expected to return to lessons once the examination is complete.

4. Examinations The Director of Examinations, Mr Miles, will provide individual hardcopy examination timetables and softcopy timetables via Dubai College Sharepoint before the end of the spring term. The online timetables are subject to change; dates will remain the same, but the examinations team reserve the right to change examination locations and precise timings to adjust for circumstances. As such, Year 13 students should check the definitive Dubai College final examination timetable on the Dubai College website as well as on the Dubai College Sharepoint. Any change of venue will also be posted on the Sixth Form whiteboard, which students should check on arrival each day. Students are expected to be in school at least 20 minutes before the start of their examination.

UK Examining Board Regulations do not permit the release of candidates from examinations any earlier than 13:0o and 17:30 for morning and afternoon examinations respectively. Students will be fully briefed on the school's expectations during the examination period and will receive personal copies of the Examining Boards' Regulations via e-mail. It is the responsibility of students to be aware of these regulations. Points relating to poor behaviour, communication and cheating, any of which could result in disqualification, will be discussed and explained. Equipment which is allowed into examination rooms will also be outlined. It will also be emphasised that any equipment taken into the room may only be carried in clear, transparent plastic bags. Only water bottles without labels will be allowed. Mobile telephones or unauthorised electronic items must not be taken into the examination room. Candidates in possession of mobile phones during examinations are likely to be disqualified under Examining Boards Regulations. Watches of any description must not be brought into the examination room. Only timers provided by the Examinations department may be used in the examination room; these timers must be booked in advance of the examination through the Director of examinations or the Head of SENCo. Only calculators approved by Dubai College and with the validity sticker may be brought into the examination room and all pencil cases and drink containers must be see-through.

Public examinations are a formal school occasion. Adherence to the appearance code and the wearing of full school uniform are expected at all times. If, for any reason, a student cannot attend an examination they must inform Dubai College as soon as possible on exams(dubaicollege.org

5. Graduation Ceremony: Saturday 23rd June For our Year 13s, the Summer Term will witness the transition from Dubai College student to Dubai College alumnus and we would like to mark this occasion with our annual Graduation Ceremony. Further details will follow early next term; however, in the meantime, we would be grateful if you could save the date of Saturday 23rd June, from 4pm to 6pm.

6. Results Day: Thursday 16th August During Term 3, I will write to you again with details of what needs to be done on results day and your options in the case of better or worse than expected examination results. In the meantime, I hope the summer calendar overleaf will serve as a useful aide-memoire for the coming months.

The entire Sixth Form team of Mr Trivic, Mr Tate, Mrs Maguire, Mrs Weiner and the twenty tutors are very happy to assist with any questions in the final few months, so please do not hesitate to contact us at any.stage.

I wish you a very restful half term break.

Yours faithfully,

Bobby Trivic Head of Sixth Form
