Dubai

Living in Dubai is different, but it’s an incredible place to spend your precious time in. The rich culture and rising city scape allows for visitors and locals alike to appreciate the city in its awesome fullness. Although it is an Arab state, most of its dwellers are foreigners, which puts nearly everyone on level of similarity among their differences. This is one reason why Dubai is such a good place to live and work in.

Aside from the wide variety of culture, Dubai offers quite a bit to appeal to the Western world. For those who are seeking to maintain the way of life they had from their Western world country, Dubai is packed with places to make them feel right at home. Several supermarkets are plotted about the city, offering goods typical of a western market. Among supermarkets, expatriates can find several restaurants to cater to their home foods. While it is against the law for any Muslim to drink liquor, it can still be found and bought within city limits. There are several clubs and bars that serve alcohol. While the national language of the Emirates is Arabic, it is generally expect-ed that its inhabitants are rehearsed in English at least somewhat. In fact, English is used for all business and in most aspects of daily life. Communicating with merchants, friends, and professionals will not pose a problem.

One of the best things about Dubai is the nearly unlimited amount of things to do. The Dubai Mall is an enormous complex of shop-ping and entertainment, even housing a theme park! I make frequent trips there, getting lost among the countless amount of stores and other activities inside the mall. Tempera-tures are scorching high throughout the year, peaking around 120° over the course of a few months. Luckily, Dubai offers several activities to fight the heat while having fun and enjoying yourself. Being a waterfront city, Dubai offers a ton of beaches and water based activities around the shore. Sometimes 120° is too hot to stand in; luckily the Mall of the Emirates con-tains an indoor ski slope ready for you to cool yourself down as you brace the open snow among crippling desert heat. Dubai is a big city with a lot of attractions. Sightseeing is a great way to spend your time without regretting it. The Burj Khalifa is quite a sight as it extends 2,723ft height, making it the world’s tallest man-made structure. The Dubai Fountains is a beautifully lit and expansive fountains system operating over 1,000 different fountains sequences, some even motioning along with music. The Dubai Fountains are so bright that they can be seen from space!

Dubai is a place of hearty culture. With the city’s population being over 80%foreign-born, Dubai has become a central example of a cultural melting pot. While the number of foreigners is high, Arab influences are stilled very prevalentwithin its functionalities. Dubai operates under Muslim traditions, and as such, dictates social standards. The country’s high number of expatriates allows forquite the diverse mixing of people, but there is much to learn from all of thediffering cultures combining.
