Dual Modem is a flexible,autonomous, redundant and highperformance 2G/3G wireless solutionfor remote monitoring, control anddata logging systems.

The DUAL MODEM versionincludes two completely independent communicationchannels on mobile networks GSM/GPRS/UMTS/HSPA,that allow the parallel interaction with two differentcarriers. The redundancy of the communication channelis granted: the system is composed in fact of two internalmodems, two antennas and two different SIM cards.

The purpose of a dual-modem device is to provide wirelessconnection redundancy to mission-critical systems.

This redundancy, unique in the market, provides enhancedavailability for monitoring, data logging and system controlthat makes the WE500 a first-in-the-class product.

Since only one modem works at any given time, wheneverthe system switches from one modem to the other for anyreason, it can send notifications via SMS or email to theselected users. It also logs these kind of events for futurereference.

The redundancy is provided through three different policiesthat can be selected according to the users needs:

SWITCH MODEM ON ERROR

Modem A is always working, but if a connectivity issue arises,such as continuos data connection failures or modemmalfunctioning, it switches to modem B and remains on thismodem until a new issue arises causing a switch back tomodem A.This is the default policy.

TIME SHARING

Each modem works for a given period of time. When thatperiod timeouts, it switches to the other modem. Thetimeouts of each modem can be different.This policy could be useful when the users wants to consumethe SIMs credit evenly.If modem A is currently working and presents an issuesuch as continuos data connection failures or modemmalfunctioning, it switches to modem B and remains on thismodem until its period times out. At that moment, itswitches back to modem A.

PRIORITY TO SELECTED MODEMOne of the two modems, eg. modem A, is always working.If a connectivity issue arises, such as continuos dataconnection failures or modem malfunctioning, it switches tomodem B, but it keeps monitoring modem A until it recovers.At that point it switches back to modem A and remains on it.
