Determine The Type Of Soil In Your Garden
Step1: Take a 1 cup sample of soil and remove any rocks or roots, then break apart any lumps.
Step 4:Set the jar on a �at surface and let the the mixture settle. Once the water is clear measure depth of each layer. (Bottom: Sand, Middle: Silt, Top: Clay)

measure up? 40% sand, 40% silt, 20% clay are the
ideal percentages for traditional garden soil,
which is called loam.
Step 2:Put the soil in a clear jar, add a teaspoon of powdered dishwashing detergent, and �ll the remainder of the jar with clean water, leaving 1/2” of air space at the top.
Step 3:Put on the lid and shake the jar well for 3 minutes.
