From the LAN/WAN bridgetechnology, it can transport STM-4c and STM-16c with concatenation and Gig Ethernet.

3.1.2. HIGHLY PROTECTED EQUIPMENTSDH design of ADR2500 eXtra gives the benefitof standard traffic protections (SNCP, MSP, andMS-SPRing).Cards whose failure could affect the traffic canbe protected in 1+1 mode and tributaries can beprotected in 1:4.

3.1.3. COMPACT, SIMPLE, RELIABLE,LOW POWER EQUIPMENT

Designed for the Metro Network, the SAGEMADR2500 eXtra is very compact: dimensions are450 x 280 x 645 mm.Its high level of integration means it is also areliable and low consumption equipment. And last, but not least, it is very simple to installand to commission (default configurationflexibility and self-adaptive behaviour).

3.1.4. SCALABILITYThe SAGEM ADR2500 eXtra is a versatileplatform. It can be configured as an add-drop, aterminal multiplexer, a regenerator or a cross-connect.The SAGEM ADR2500 eXtra features 8 notdedicated slots for tributaries. It can give accessat the same time to 252 E1 (protected in 1+4)plus 12 STM-1 or 252 E1 unprotected plus 16STM-1.

The heart of the system is made on a 64x64VC4/VC4-4c/VC3/VC12 non-blocking Switch.

3.1.5. SNMP MANAGEMENT SYSTEMThe SAGEM ADR2500 eXtra implements anHTTP server. This enables monitoring of alarmsor events and configuration of any equipment inthe network. This application is a friendlygraphical windows-type man-machine interface. The SAGEM IONOS-NMS is an SNMPmanagement platform that includes aprovisioning feature. This software, adaptable tothe size of the managed network, runs on aWindows XP or a UNIX workstation; it featuresmulti -users and differentiated services withaccess security.

    3.1.6. A SDH COST-EFFECTIVESOLUTION

Money saving is a leading goal of the SAGEMSDH family. Generally speaking, SDH/SONEThas proven to be one of the most cost-effectivetechnologies at the present time and the mostwidespread world-wide.This very important advantage is the result of athree dimensional concept.First, ADR2500 eXtra takes advantage ofSAGEM experience in designing next generationcost-effective and highly integrated equipment. The second point is, it is easy to install andcommission: the shelf is available with 19 andETSI mounting kit. Commissioning is timesaving. The third point is the management andmaintenance: the management is very simplewith the centralised IONOS-NMS system andMaintenance is reduced due to the highreliability of the equipment. Moreover, newfirmware can be downloaded to equipment fromIONOS-NMS without going to every site.

    3.6. ETHERNET OVER SDH (EOS)

3.6.1. NEXT GENERATION SDHThe goal of Next Generation SDH is to transportdifferent type of services, both circuit mode andpacket mode at the same time. By incorporatingdifferent technologies the aim is to keep thestrong points and eliminate the weakness. The main points are :

    - Multiservice transport based on SDH.SDH has efficient protection services as wellas mature technology.

    - The flexibility of the trail creation iscarried by virtual concatenation and LCASprotocol. The virtual concatenation allowsstacking of bandwidth of different VC12,VC3or VC4 containers, in order to get the virtualcontainer to an adjustable bandwidthaccording to the needs. The granularityrespects 2 Mb/s, 50 Mb/s or 150 Mb/s. LCASprotocol insures the extremitysynchronisation when there is an adjustablebandwidth, avoids the momentaryinterruption services.

    - Choosing the best encapsulation modefor each services :

    - The in circuit flow mode, as a flow of E1PDH end E3/DS3 that are encapsulated in avirtual container (VC12/VC3) in following themultiplexing scheme proving SDH efficientquality.

    - In flow packet mode using the new GFP-Fencapsulation mode which combine very lightoverhead, with the maintenance of the octetalignment and the packet size.

    - The important innovation of thetranslater for Ethernet in the first mile

for transporting the flow of Ethernet packets :policing, shaping, double tagging, EthernetPrivat Line, Ethernet Virtual Private Lan.
