Dear Parents and Carers,

As we near the end of another fantastic half term, school is a busy as ever!

We close for the Easter break on Wednesday at 3pm. Although it is a short

week, learning continues as usual.

We have been supporting Sport Relief this week and the PE faculty have

arranged many events such as Run to Russia, 10 mile Challenge and Tough

Runner Obstacle Course, in which I am taking part! Staff and pupils have

been involved in all the events and we hope to have raised lots of money for

this good cause. Read all about it in our next newsletter.

Manchester United Foundation work closely with our school and they have

held a variety of events this week that some of our pupils have been lucky

enough to attend. These events are to enable the children to experience a

wide range of experiences from future employability and leadership to the

many sporting events that Mr Buckley (who works for the Foundation)

organises for the school.

Don’t forget our Coffee Evening on Wednesday 28th March which will run

from 4.00 pm until 5.30 pm. We are discussing the very important topic of

Safeguarding. I hope you can make it!

Enjoy the rest of the articles in this week’s edition, and I wish you and your families a happy Easter break. School opens again to pupils on Monday 16th April.

Yours sincerely

Orlando in Year 7 has written his own Shakespeare quote book for extra homework. Very impressive!

Aneesha, Musa and Nimra in Year 9 learn how using maths is a vital part of being an air traffic controller.

Year 7 News

We are in the penultimate week of this term and it continues to be a busy one for Year 7. This week we saw the

launch of Sports Relief in assemblies organised by Mr Fuller. The 10 Mile Challenge and the Tough Runner

obstacle course have taken place this week with pupils participating to raise money for this worthy cause..

The Year 7 attendance still continues to be the best across the year groups. Well done!

Year 9 News

Year 9 pupils travelled to Manchester United training ground 'The Cliff' to participate in a Manchester United Foundation Army Leadership event this week. On the day, those who took part were put through their paces in a series of activities which required physical endurance, intelligence and cooperation. The boys represented the school brilliantly at the event, working fantastically as a team to conquer all of the tests put before them. Well done boys!

Year 8 News

This week the Year 8s have been taking part in the Sports Relief celebrations. We have had excellent effort in PE lessons with a particular mention to the boys in Rylands form who went the extra mile during the ‘Run to Russia’ during their PE lessons. Next week we have our termly rewards afternoon and celebration assemblies to praise those pupils who have gone above and beyond this term. Look out for the winners in next weeks newsletter.

Year 7 & 8 Rugby Tournament

On Tuesday 20th March a group of Year 7 and 8 boys took part in the school's first ever rugby tournament at Broughton Park RUFC. Those who took part played excellently and finished the competition winning one, drawing two and losing one game. Well done to all of those involved. Hopefully future rugby successes are on the horizon!

Science

Mrs Awais from the Science faculty ran a workshop for parents on 8th

March. This was to show them the resources available for pupils and parents to use for homework and revision. The workshop showed parents how to access their child's Pearson Active Learn account as well as use the online textbooks and quizzes. This is a resource that is always available for homework and any extra revision pupils may want to do. Parents can also use the Active Learn to go through any topics at home when pupils are finding anything difficult.

The workshop also outlined the use of knowledge organisers, learning plans and the Science revision organisers. All of these resources can be used by pupils and parents to keep track of current process in modules or to design revision quizzes, flash cards and mind maps. The workshop was well received by the attending parents and all found it extremely helpful.
