After your last lesson you may well wonder what to do at the times when you have

problems. How may valid answers rom your Inner Teacher be distinguished romfraudulent ones coming from discarnate entities or delusioned deas rom self-rationalization? Many have come o me with problems. One thing I have never done is totell anyone what to do, even though she or he may have been disappointed at this apparentlack of guidance. I should have broken my most sacred obligation had I done so. Everytime we try to directly influence someone nd that someone lindly and indiscriminatelyheeds us, we have taken away that much strength from his soul, that much experience romhis spirit, that much growth and expansion rom his consciousness.

This does not mean that you should not offer advice o those who come o you indistress. Nor should we permit our love for another to diminish if the advice we offer is notaccepted. What we are talking about is the attempt to push or force advice upon someone,advice which will rob him of his own evaluation and udgment.

There are times when we have great problems and do not know what to do or whereto turn. What we need more than anything at these imes is someone o cling to who willnot sit in judgment no matter what we have done. We need someone who will listen withsympathy to what we say and give us a chance o express ourselves, o that we can begin tolook at the problem objectively, with the issues clearly defined.

By sharing the problem with someone lse, t helps us to obtain the objective view.There is an inner telepathic rapport when you talk to someone who has the ability to be atrue counsellor. Just by virtue of talking about the problem to one who has that inner

spiritual quality, you take the first step towards its solution. Some people have this qualityof the true counsellor without realizing that they have t.

The ability to look objectively at the problem gives us the capacity o use thereasoning aculty (The Emperor). If we have no one to come o, no one with whom todiscuss he problem, thereby helping us to v iew it more objectively, we are often caught in avicious circle like a squirrel in a cage going around and around. Such counseling helps us toget out of a trap.

True counseling creates he atmosphere which helps you to accept yourself, nomatter what you are or what you have done. The spiritual counsellor does not (evensubconsciously) ondemn ou but holds you in love, which opens our own channels o theknowledge of what to do next.

There is always the question of what Tarot key will be the best and most helpful fora particular problem. This advice we give freely always, n letters, in classes, tc. This iscounseling hat really helps. When you go through a problem, using the principles of theTarot; when you have solved hat problem you will be able to say, "I have grown. I havebeen able to perceive a principle, I understand he way or part of the way in whichconsciousness orks." You will not then fall into that particular trap as readily as before.

You have noticed, am sure, how often problems epeat themselves. If we have thehabit of falling in love with someone who will reject us, we do it regularly. If we have thehabit of making business alliances with one who will betray us, we do it regularly. We keephaving the same experiences, ecause we have not yet come o perceive he principle of theunderlying problem. We have not learned how to bring that problem to the Inner Teacher,the Inner Instructor.

The main thing we have omitted doing, of course, s what this Tarot key, TheHierophant, shows so clearly in the two kneeling flrgures. The one with the white liliesrepresents our knowledge, and the one with the red roses epresents our desire nature; theysymbolize our hearts and our minds, intellect and feeling, knowledge and desire, and all thatgoes with them. They are wearing garments patterned as a yoke; they are kneeling.

The greatest problem you have--and one this Tarot key will help you overcome--is olearn how to put your knowledge and your desire aside o assume, ymbolically, he kneeling

position. Most of your troubles stem from the belief in things that you know are not so andwishing for things which are not in harmony with the universal desire drive. Arriving atthe heart of the problem, whatever the problem appears o be, requires before all thingsyour willingness to remove he enchanting shackles of the intellect and to give up the fixedemotions you have enmeshed ourself n--to place hese acets of your personality aside, atleast or the time being. Of course, ou will not be able o maintain this conditionl we areall growing children. Before utilizing the practice o solve a particular problem, at least nthe area of concern, we must be willing to say, "I know that much of my thinking is basedcn false nterprctations frcrn thc past. I knor','that many of my' feelings are based cnincorrect evaluations and that my acceptance f incorrect values rom the past is what feedsnegative emotions. I know this, and I'm willing to let you, O Lord of Lif e, transmute mythinking and my feeling." It is quite an achievement o be willing to say his, for it takestrue humility. You usually have to be desperately unhappy before you are willing to give upthe false nterpretations of experience hat cause all of the trouble.

Flemember, oo, in spirituality, humor is essential. Without it, you lose your way, Ifyou cannot laugh with God, you have not reached God. Just as we laugh with our children,think how God must laugh with us. Realize he importance of laughter, use ts therapy--itwill aid you in bringingyour true intuition into proper ocus. Usually t is whenyou needyour intuition the mos t, that you become o emotionally concerned hat intuition is blocked.That is why I have stressed he importance of relaxing the emotions, he desires, he think-ing processes nd giving your problems o the Higher Self.

Now this does not mean hat we do not use he thinking and feeling processes. Thefaculties represented by the Tarot keys preceding he Hierophant must be utilized. First ofall, be the Fool, with a sense f adventure. Be willing to see your ourneyings ntoself-experience n a new unique manner. Be the Adventurer (Superconsciousness). ext,practice being the Magician, Tarot Key 1. Observe alertly; be willing to look at reality, toconcentrate on the living moment. Then be the High Priestess, Key 2; be willing and ableto recollect everything that is involved with what you have observed; utilize your memory,your recollections. Then go to Tarot Key 3, The Empress, using attention and recollectionto creatively magine all possible olutions, or the Empress s creative magination. Finally,use Tarot Key 4, reason. Reason he problem through; weigh it, measure t, see what

avenues show practical potential. Every great scientist has had to follow this sameprocedure which dates back to the dawn of time and before ecorded history.

When, even with application ofall

yourreason,

youfind that you cannot reach a pro-per solution, only then do you arrive at a point where you are prepared, ready and willing to

kneel and ask for help from on High, from your Higher Teacher, rom your true inner self.Kneel. Give up what you think is so. Be willing to give up the fixed and rigiddeterminations that have made you insist that only one solution to your problem is possible.

You must be willing to let go of what you think must be, or else you will not bereceptive o the true solution. How does he true intuitive solution come? It can come nmany ways. The first requirement, n a sense, s simply to SHUT UP We are foreverchattering with our minds and our emotions, and while this goes on, how are we able tohear that silent Voice of the higher knowing? We must be willing to let go with our mind,to quiet our thoughts and emotions, o give in. It is a sacrifice and a discipline, but we haveclimbed to the point where we should be capable of sacrifice n order to have somethingbetter and more wonderful. It is a strange hing, the way in which human consciousnesshangs doggedly o that which was. At the heart of most of our problems s this unbendingdetermination to hang on to the past and to hold it in the present, desperately rying tomake it appear again in the future. We must, then, release ourselves rom this attempt toequate past, present and future. The secret n successful meditation, the purposefulreception and perception of real intuitional guidance, s so simple hat people hardly believeit and seldom practice t; it is that easy. The trick is to LISTEN It is that simple. It is analert listening, however, not mere passive nertness. Many people go passive and wonderwhy nothing happens. Others with psychic vehicles permit the invasion of all kinds ofastral nonsense, ecause heir passive minds are open to anything that will come n. This is

not the way to receive ntuitional and spiritual guidance at all.You have to keep your own center of consciousness lert. There is a little trick to it.

You must let go of mental and emotional blocks and be willing to accept he truth assymbolized by the kneeling figures in Tarot Key 5. Keep he kneeling figures in mind andwhat they symbolize, and at the same ime, lis ten as though you hear something afar off. Asudden attention of listening is what we mean.

Suppose ou were alone n a house and thought you heard a footstep. Wouldn'tevery atom of your being spring suddenly o attentive listening? Isn't it just as important togive that same attention to the Higher Self? You combine a letting go and an opening up, apositive opening up, because ou are listening to and for your Higher Self, the InteriorTeacher. When you have a serious problem of any kind, go through the preliminary stepsfirst (TarotKeys 0 through4). You are notreadyuntil thento hearthe InnerVoice. If youtry to listen before you have used your other faculties, you will receive no dependableanswer. Your whole being must be involved; ou cannot dismiss or disregard our intellect,your attention or your memory. You must use all your faculties before you have the right,before you can expect higher help, Every great scientist has admitted this; that in making agreat discovery, and after using all of his other faculties o solve he problem, suddenlythere is a ump of consciousness nd a higher perception f underlying principles.Sometimes t comes pouring in, and sometimes one seems o reach up to find the solution.

A personal problem s ust as much a problem of research s the research of ascientist. This research ncludes he use of the Tarot because he Tarot is a spiritual,self-analytical system designed or transmuting all of your old karma into a new being. Tothe degree hat you accept your responsibility o work on transmutation, to that degree areyou going to receive more of the kind of life that you want.

The listening does not necessarily mean hat an actual voice will be heard. Dr. Caseactually heard a voice a good part of the time. There are others who receive hevisualization telepathically. There are some who receive t as a complete knowingconviction, without question. There are still others who receive t as a visual sSrmbol. Thepoint is, that you will know that you have achieved he highest level of communication andintuition when your answer comes as a p1i4ciplg.

I will give you an example, The first time I decided o test the theory that answersto problems can come rom higher spiritual levels, decided o go about t exactly as I havedescribed bove. My problem was, o me, a very serious one: I have always elt a profoundemotional disturbance over the social situation n the world--babies orn sick and poor:horrorsl sadnessl njustice; all this bothered me. This sadness ncluded he little creat ures,not ust human beings. Why there should be this kind of a world worried me very much,

After I came into occultisrn and starteC tc study the lav;s of evofution in terrrrs ofoccult eachings, he idea of bloodshed s an aspect f evolution horrified me. I have alwaysbeen opposed o violence of any kind. It therefore worried me that the magnificent andglorious democracy which we call the United States of America should have been ounded ona revolution, n which killing was nvolved. I have always been sensitive o pain in life, andthat any good could come rom violence was something could not seem o accept n myheart.

I decided o ask for an answer. "How," I asked myself, "could anythinggood comeout of something preceded by violence?" The fact that the American Revolution had to befought was undeniable, but the necessit5i or killing seemed o me an indication thatsomething was wrong with the way evolution works. I had to get my answer.

It is very hard to live in a world when you are sensitive o even he pain of a littlefly. I reviewed n my mind the various books had read on sociolog', economics, olitics, on

the way things had developed and evolved n our social structurel what one side had to sayand what the other had to say. I reviewed hese deas and meditated for approximately onehour, when suddenly my whole consciousness as transported and I became he Principle ofEvolution. This, of course, was one of the highest states of direct perception and mostunusual. In this state, there was within me a beginninglessness nd endlessness; ot withinme, Ann Davies, but within me, he All Self. I could see evolution aking place ike a crowdof people n a river, a very strong, rushing, deep iver, rushing to the sea with rocks andwaterfalls on the way and people swept this way and that, dashed o pieces. In that state Isaw the utter unimportance of what happened o the individual bodies, blindly smashedagainst the rocks and stones, being catapulted over the waterfalls, for they were all

and stones, being catapulted over the waterfalls, for they were all inevitably being carried byan inexorable current as a force of evolut ion out to the inf inite sea. The sea was a symbolof their whole humanhood, heir full consciousness, heir illumination, their fullness ofbeing. Their final goal being the inevitable brotherhood of man which embraces he onenessof Being.

For me to have such an experience was overwhelming. I still cringe at s tepping onan ant or swatting a fly. I naturally still love everything and every creature that lives andfeel protective toward them in every way. In this cosmic experience became he principleof evolution, and from that time on I possessed he sure knowledge hat everSrbhing hatlives, ever5rthing hat exists, no matter what the surface appearance, ven hough we stillhave bloodshed, war, earthquakes, devastations, ll life is destined o the perfection of unitywith God. The experience eft me with an abiding peace, a faith in the glorious destiny ofall that lives, despite he inevitable pains and sorrows of incarnate ife.

This underlying peace ives with me as vividly today as during the time of myactual participation in the Divine Intention. I now rcalize hat the evolutionary processincludes dissolution of the old as a preliminary o building the new. The old becomes hesand for the mortar of progress.

In the above experience, he problem I meditated on brought me the answer whichwas in exactly the same ield to which the question related. Almost everyone has, at onetime or another, had a problem which he analyzed, ound nsoluble with his conscious mind,then frnally entered nto the position of the supplicants n Tarot Key No. 5 and reached orhelp from on High. Then suddenly comes some kind of realization or some unexpectedunderstanding of the principle. By understanding he principles, you know how to use your

own mind and how to proceed. This is the real intuitive guidance and help. If there areobstacles, hey will not concern you. You know that they are there only to be overcome.The thing to remember s that intuition, most of the time, comes as certain conviction.

Know your levels. It is not that you might not get some very good pointers fromother minds broadcasting, but know to what level you are tuning, so that you are notdeceived. Know that whenever ou have a sudden opening up in your consciousness, rperception of a principle, at that point you have reached he highest interior teaching,whether you have consciously een aware of contact with the Higher Self or not. The verysudden opening up of the unders tanding of the principle shows hat you achieved youranswer. You will never be at a loss for action in terms of the particular problems governedby that principle. Having this concept discussed n this manner will help you to watch forit. Remember hat whatever you watch for is what you develop; whatever you work for iswhat you finally achieve. That is why it is necessary o understand he different levels ofconsciousnessl o understand hat which is psychic (and this can be interesting,entertaining, and sometimes even helpful); and to understand hat which is truly intuitive,and thus to be able to differentiate between hese evels.

feel willing to give up all of your old misconceptions nd old negative emotions andmisinterpretations of past experience r present conditions. Let go . . . let go . . . Be willingto release old patterns, and then lift your attention into alert listening watchfulness asmentioned earlier in this lesson. Always have something o listen for. Before you begin,decide what it is you are after, even f it is spiritual guidance you are reaching for ratherthan a distinct material problem. You can use this technique or any and all problems; andsince you want the experience of union with the Divine Self, isten for the word of God soyou can truly discover hat you are His Child. You may know this intellec tually, but whatyou must be able to do is to exper ience t directly.
