We are going through extraordinary times,
witnessing fundamental changes in the globaleconomy. The Indian economy too is facing tough
challenges, and it has also affected the way management
education is imparted at Business Schools. Apart from the
delivery of contents, some of the basic questions being asked
relate to their relevance and usefulness: whether as a business
school, we are making students industry-ready in the current
scenario. Our attempt at Delhi School of Business (DSB),
Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies - Technical
Campusis to fill this gap and prepare students for solving the
problems of tomorrow.
We were able to identify and implement several initiatives to impart essential
employability skills for students, based on the market research conducted by us in
collaboration with the industry. Some of these initiatives are:
The Schools Corporate Connect initiative is an ongoing effort to engage with leading
practitioners of the industry. It includes regular industry visits and guest lectures
from eminent corporate personalities, in order to provide students a real-world
orientation. The industry input is utilized in introducing several flagship initiatives
such as mentorship programs, pre-employment offers, and more.
The curriculum followed at DSB has been developed after close consultation with the
industry. Care has been taken to include the latest developments in the respective
fields, along with relevant case studies that illustrate the application of the learned
concepts.
Learning at DSB is imparted through a specialized Learning Management System
(LMS) iLearn. This ensures that teaching resources are utilized in an optimal manner,
making learning become effective. For this innovation, we have won the
ASSOCHAM National Award and Hindustan Times Award for the year 2013.
Given that soft skills matter as much as domain knowledge for a competent manager,
DSB has started a number of initiatives for the students to develop rightcommunication and emotional management skills.
Going forward, it will be our constant endeavor to ensure that DSB students are
industry ready as perceived by the industry. The challenges ahead of us are
considerable, but these also present unprecedented opportunities for growth.
I welcome all of you in this exciting journey forward.

BRICS Studies Seminar Based Study
BOPPT Bottom Of the Pyramid Project Training
The study of BRICS is introduced in the PGDM curriculum as their economies are the
fastest emerging economies in the world. The robustness of the economies of Brazil,
India, China, Russia and South Africa could be gauged from the fact that these could
withstand the worst recent recession in the world. Thus a knowledge and
understanding of these economies would add value to the student who are the
future managers. This exposure and understanding would enrich knowledge of the
students which will help them widen their employability options.
The structure of the program is in the form of one or two day seminars on these major
developing and emerging economies of the world. In order to give practical insight
we would involve the faculty, industry managers who have first hand experience on
dealing with such economies or other experts and specialists.
India is primarily an agrarian economy where majority of our population is still living
in rural areas. As a young professional the executives need to be made aware of the
real potential and business prerogatives available for Indian firms. The aim of this
programme is to provide students an understanding and exposure to this market by
undertaking projects sponsored by organisations in the rural, semi-urban and urban
markets in India through Tier I and Tier II cities.
Students need to visit such places to undertake such study projects. Organisations
involved may include Corporates which are either marketing their products in such
areas or organising activities for fulfilling their commitments for CSR or professionally
managed NGOs. Students would then have wider exposure to such organisations for
helping them in their career options.

Industry- Academia Connect
There's a growing disconnect between the skills of students coming out of B-Schools and the industry's
