-Potent anti-ulcer drug competitively and reversibly inhibitsHistamine action at H2 receptor site on parietal cells, thus blocking gastric acid secretion. Indirectly reduces pepsin secretion but appears to have minimal effect on fasting and secretion of gastric intrinsic factor.-to decrease gastric acid secretion.-contraindicated to patient hypersensitive to drug or any of its component.Drug-Drug:-Antacids: may interfere with ranitidine absorption. Stagger doses if possible.
-diazepam: may decrease absorption of diazepam.
-warfarin: may interfere with warfarin clearance-CNS: Headache, malaise dizziness, insomnia, vertigo, mental confusion, agitation,
-GI: constipation, nausea,abdominal pain, diarrhea.
-Skin:Rash
-hematologic: reversible decrease in WBC count, thromcytopenia.
-Other: hypersensitivity reaction, angioedema.
-use cautiously in patient using acetaminophen (Tylenol), anticoagulant (blood thinners) such as warfarin (Coumadin), prophanthelin, and vitamins.-all unused admixture of Zantac injection with infusion fluid should be discarded 24 hours after preparation
--monitor for manifestation of hypersensitivity. Discontinue drug of hypersensitivity occurs. Report their appearance promptly.
