Monitor for and immediately report S&S of angioedema or a severe skin reaction. Lab tests: Urea breath test 4–6 wks after completion of therapy.

For those adult patients who have not healed after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8-week course of PROTONIX may be considered. Safety of treatment beyond 8 weeks in pediatric patients has not been established.

contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis to the formulation.

During:-Instruct patient to take drug with food or milk.- Teach patient to avoid aspirin and other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen and naproxen)during therapy.

After:-Advise patient to immediately report bloody stools, blood in vomit, or signs or symptoms of liver damage(nausea, fatigue, lethargy, pruritus, yellowing of eyes or skin, tenderness on upper right side of abdomen, or flulike symptoms).

-Safe use during pregnancy (except for delivery) and lactation not established. Use with caution in presence of head injuries and asthma, MI (if client is nauseous or vomiting), biliary tract surgery (may induce spasms of sphincter of Oddi), renal insufficiency. Clients dependent on narcotics may experience withdrawal symptoms.
