Objectives of Lesson Cognitive – The students will demonstrate

knowledge for the drugs and medicines unit by beginning their unit project.

Affective – The students will demonstrate respect for their classmates by maintaining appropriate classroom behavior.

Skill –Based - The students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and product services to enhance health.

Classroom Behavior Follow the rules as proposed by the class. Follow directions. Give your best effort on a daily basis. Respect the teacher and your classmates. Do not speak until you are called upon,

unless in-group discussion. Disrupting class, swearing, and arguing

with instructor or other students will not be tolerated.

Directions This project must be completed using

Microsoft PowerPoint You may work individually or with a partner The project will be presented to the class All of the information must be pertinent to

the specific drug you were assigned. The presentation must be 2-4 minutes in

length and consist of at least 10 slides. Videos can be included but DO NOT count towards the time of the presentation.

Visuals are required for the presentation and must be added to the PowerPoint.

OXYCODONE

What is it? Oxycodone is used to relieve moderate

to severe pain. Oxycodone is in a class of medications

called opiate (narcotic) analgesics. It works by changing the way the brain

and nervous system respond to pain. It is legally available via prescription

Oxycodone comes as a: solution (liquid) concentrate solution tablet capsule

How can it be taken?

Side Effects nausea vomiting loss of appetite constipation dry mouth lightheadedness drowsiness flushing

• sweating• itching• weakness• headache• mood changes• decrease in pupil

(dark circle in eye) size

• red eyes

Why is it illegal?

OxyContin is a Schedule II substance under the Controlled Substances Act

Schedule II drugs, which include cocaine and methamphetamine, have a high potential for abuse

Oxycodone can give the user a euphoric sensation

Abuse of these drugs may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence

Street names include… Oxycotton Blue Ox/Oxy Hillbilly Heroin Kicker

Long-Term Side Effects Users can lose their balance and

coordination Bladder and bowel problems can also

occur Users may have severe constipation or

difficulty passing urine
