Review of Users Reading Interest and Their Usage

Different advices are given regarding exchange of books which are

available in Maharashtra State agricultural university libraries; for users. Data

has been produced regarding this in the case of its agreement and

disagreement. It has been shown in table 22-A.

new books to the library but 18.18% of the users do not agree with it.

Observing the users of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Agriculture University

Library, Dapoli, 91.21% of the users find it appropriate to book selection

whereas 8.79% of the users do not agree with it.

Through the survey of the users, on the collection of books in a library,

opinions have been taken and deemed to be useful, satisfactory and useless

etc. three types of data is received. They have been put into sequences of

different types in order, in a table.

It comes to know from the suggestions made by the users of

Dr.Panjabrao Deshmukh Agriculture University Library, that 58.87% users

find it useful to have sufficient collection of books in a library. Journals and

periodicals seem to be useful to 22.95% users, Thesis and dissertation are

found to be useful to 8.65% users, daily news papers are found to be useful

by 9.53% of users. But the proportion of micro documents is zero. Whereas

as Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Agriculture University Library users survey

shows that 56.01% users find that books in a library. Important of Journals,

and research documents seem to be useful for 18.06% users, Thesis and

dissertation are found to be useful to 8.34% users, daily newspapers seem to

value by the users.

It comes to know from the users of Dr.Panjabrao Deshmukh

Agriculture University Library, that 34.09% users books, 43.19% to research

Journals, 18.18% to thesis and dissertation, 4.54% daily news papers. They

consider them to be useless. As per the Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan

Agricultural University Dapoli, users, it comes to know that 50.00% users

books, 21.43% to research Journals, 11.91% to thesis and dissertation,

16.66% daily news papers to the additions that will be done to the library.

As per the table given above 10.38% of the users are of the opinion, in

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University Library, that they are always

given the material desired from the library, 46.76% of the users are of the

opinion that, the desired material is sometimes desired to them, 34.64% of

the users are of the opinion that they are given the desired material suddenly,

whereas as 8.22% of the users are of the opinion that they do not get the

desired material at all.

As per the survey of the users of the Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan

Agricultural University Library, 12.50% of the users always get, 52.32% of the

users are of the opinion that, the desire material is sometimes desired to

them. 25.93% of the users suddenly get, whereas as 9.25% of the users do

not get the desired material in the library.

The table No.22-C, shows how the library users get their reading aids

at right time, quickly and late.

23.81% of the users get desired material quickly in Dr. Panjabrao

Deshmukh Agricultural University Library. 59.31% users get the material at

right time. Whereas 16.88% of the users get the material late. In the survey

done in the case of the library users in Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan

Agricultural University Library, it comes to know that 13.88% of the users get

the material very quickly, 66.21% of the users get the material at right time,

whereas 19.91% of the users always get the material late.

May there be an agricultural library or any other library, cataloguing

has its own importance. Without it, it is very inconvenient to place them on

proper order. Order of the books is made suitable due to cataloguing. Without

this, it is impossible to remove the books from the book cases. The table

given below table no. 23-A, shown the survey done on agricultural University

users.

18.18% user use catalogue cards in the Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh

Agricultural University library whereas 81.82% of users use OPAC catalogue

in finding books. 76.39% users of the Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan

Agriculture University Library, use catalogue for book selection, whereas

23.61% users do not use catalogue in finding books.

Every user of book has his own way (manner) of finding the books.

Some people choose books by titles, some by subjects, some try to find the

unavailable (desired) expected material. With this aim, classified catalogues

and Dictionary catalogues are also used. This has been sown as per the

table no 23-B given below.

14.29% of the users use author catalogue in Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh

Agricultural University Library, 10.98% of the users use it by title catalogue,

62.65% of the users by using subject catalogue, 5.49% of the users use

classified catalogue, whereas 6.49% of the users dictionary catalogues.

10.76% of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Agricultural University library users

use author catalogue, 16.42% of users title catalogue, 62.06% users select

by using subject catalogue, 6.15% by using classified catalogue, and 4.61%

of users use by dictionary catalogue, give consent to obtain books from the

library.

By the use of catalogues, how many users have got satisfied and how

many dissatisfied, that is given below in the table No. 23-(C).

In both agriculture universities of Maharashtra state, 78.79% of the

users of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University Library, are

satisfied with the catalogue code, whereas 21.21% of the users do not use it.

90.28% of the user of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Agricultural University

library, use catalogue, whereas 9.72% of users do not use these techniques.

There are many reasons behind this is that; most of the graduate level users

do not know anything about this technique. In this way, we do not find full

development of this technique in libraries. Lack of complete catalogue, is its

reason.

Users choose catalogue as per the facilities available in their library.

The survey done on it, is shown below in the following table No. 23-D.

The table No. 23-D, as per the numbers given in Dr. Panjabrao

Deshmukh Agricultural University Library, the users uses the A.A.C.R.-II,

9.09%, and 90.91 users use online public access catalogue (OPAC) code,

whereas, in the users of the Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Agricultural

University library, 100% of the users use A.A.C.R.-II code for choosing the

book from the catalogue. Online public access catalogue (OPAC) facilities

are not available in this university library.

The thoughts of the users regarding the size and structure of the

catalogue code is given in table 23-E as below.

Nearly 21.21% of users of the Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural

University Library users do not find satisfaction with the structure of the

catalogue cards. But the users of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Agricultural

University library, 90.28% of users are satisfied with the size of the catalogue

cards, whereas 9.72% of them are dissatisfied. Some of them consider the

catalogue card to be chronicle whereas some of them show high esteem.

The users of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University Library,

thought it right to regain the textual material. In this way, Dr. Balasaheb

Sawant Konkan Agricultural University library, also thought it better as it was

considered by Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University Library,

Whether the collection of books and their maintenance is right or not

was surveyed in the table no.24, which has been sequenced in table no 24.

The user of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University Library,

consider it better to the book collection and their maintenance. 22.07% users

consider it to be excellent, 61.91% of consider to be good, 9.96% consider it

to be favourable, whereas 6.06% consider it to be weak. 31.48% of the users

of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Agricultural University library, consider that

the collection of books and their maintenance is considered to be the

excellent, 48.62% find it good, 18.05% of favourable, whereas 1.85% users

find it weak.

A survey was done as per the behaviour of the users towards the staff

of the libraries. It has been given in the table no.25 it facilitates to understand

them.

Out of these users, 92.65% Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural

University Library, users are satisfied with the exchange of books with the

library staff, whereas, 7.35% users are dissatisfied with the library staff. In the

same manner 98.15% of the users of the Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan

Agricultural University library, are satisfied, whereas, 1.85% of the users are

dissatisfied with the library staff of the users are satisfied with the behavior of

the staff of the library due to their transaction with the users. The results

figures indicate that most of the users are satisfied with this. This has been

shown in table no. 26 which can be easily understood.

It comes to know from the analysis of the figures available as per the

survey done in the Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agriculture University Library,. It

seems that 92.65% of users are such who are satisfied with the transactions

of the library staff. Their role is satisfactory. Whereas, 7.35% of the users are

not satisfied. In the same manner, 98.15% of the users of the Dr. Balasaheb

Sawant Konkan Agriculture University Library, are satisfied with the

behaviour of the library staff and their co-operation, whereas, 1.85% are

satisfied with the co-operation of the staff of the library.

Various opinions have been presented by the users regarding the

reading material and devices available in the libraries with their co-operation

and maintenance. It has been shown in the table no.27. Some of them

consider it to be the best, whereas, some of them call it an ordinary one.

38.53% of the users of the Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Agriculture

University Library, consider that the maintenance and the library material is

excellent, 54.98% of the users are satisfied, 6.49% of the users consider it to

be weak. Whereas, the 44.91% of the users of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant

Konkan Agriculture University Library, consider it to be the best, whereas

52.32% of them consider it satisfied one and 2.77% of the users consider it to

be weak.
