Attention All Event Organizers

If you incur an expense that needs to be repaid out of the club’s checkbook you will need to produce a receipt. There is a form available for this and we will have them at the membership meetings. We will also provide copies in the Organizer’s Packet that we are putting together. Receipts are required to keep our books in order and our treasurer sane. Items that are donated need to have a receipt for the value of the item and the word “Donated” written on the receipt for tax purposes. This can include judge’s fees if the person judging normally charges for their service.

Chatfield State Park Picnic Drive Saturday, August 27

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the Chatfield Drive. Wasn't the weather just perfect? This year we did not have the threat of rain and lightning. What a gorgeous day! Safe driv-ers and ready to go with singles, pairs and the Jensens' four-in-hand. Of course, the picnic lunch was delightful and everyone reported a fun time. See you all again next year!

The End Is Near!

The year is fast drawing to a end but CDS still has two very important events coming up:

the November planning meeting and the annual Board of Directors election.

The planning meeting (Sat., November 12, 10:00 am—location to be announced—check the website) is when all the year’s events are mapped out. This is your chance to ensure that your favorite events have a place on the calendar and to suggest some new ones. Another picnic drive? A continuous drive? What about another SDTD or a map rally? Something en-tirely new? The club always needs people to organize or host events, but not all events re-quire mountains of work—an help is available. Please attend the meeting and think about hosting an event! The annual Christmas party (Sat., December 17, 4:00-8:00 pm) is just plain fun, but is also where new board members are elected. We’re looking for three board members. Serving on the board is a chance to “pay back” some of the fun you’ve had at events, and to help deter-mine the direction of the club. Meetings are held only every two to three months, so there’s not a huge time commitment involved. Please contact a current board member to talk about how you contribute and throw your hat in the ring!

Blue Jeans Pleasure Show, September 20

The Blue Jeans Pleasure Show was a wonderful, low-key driving event. It offered three standard pleasure classes (working pleasure, reinsmanship and cones) and two more unusual and chal-lenging obstacle classes. The first of these was a combined obstacle class where drivers negoti-ated a barrel pattern, a keyhole, and a pole-bending pattern. The second was a log skid where drivers ground drove their horses through an obstacle course.

It was fun for drivers and spectators alike. Things moved along quickly, lunch was just right, and the weather was great! Thanks to Toni Schmidt (organizer/creator/planner), the officials (Vickroy and Andrita Ficklin) and our small but enthusiastic and capable group of volunteers!

Enter the Parade! On the second Saturday of December each year, the Town of Parker and the Colorado Driving Society will host the annual Christmas Carriage Parade. This year’s exciting event, themed as a “Beary Special Christmas,” will be attended by thousands on Saturday, Dec. 10. Be more than a spectator this year and enter the parade!

Individuals, businesses and organizations are welcome and encouraged to enter as this is a won-derful opportunity to gain exposure and to give back to the Parker community. Commercial entries are $75 and may display advertising for their business on their hired carriage as the parade is open to equine entries only. There will be no entry fee charged to private entries that do not charge for their services and do not display any type of advertising, other than for a not for profit group. Please note that the Christmas Carriage parade is open to equestrian entries and marching bands only. If entering isn’t for you, but you’d still like to help the event, sponsorship opportunities are available! Parade space is limited and all entries will be taken on a first-come first served basis. All applica-tions are due Nov. 4. Please visit www.parkeronline.com for an entry form and contact Julie Was-sell at [email protected] or 303.841.0353 for more information on how you can be a part of the 2011 Christmas Carriage Parade.

QUALITY SYNTHETIC BIOTHANE AND BETA—REASONABLY PRICED

I love my Bird-in-Hand marathon cart. It’s perfect for competing at the preliminary level and was very reasonably priced. I also ordered new synthetic har-ness through Jack and I’m very impressed with the quality of it and how well it fits my horse—and it’s so easy to keep clean! Jack was really great at helping me decide on the features I needed for both the cart and the harness, and the best part was that he came to my barn and made sure everything fit properly and worked as expected.
