Each end user is grateful to know that high demands are made on hygiene in all “sensi-
tive production areas.” That statement applies to employees as well as all machines and
systems involved. Thus the food and beverage industry, as well as the chemical and phar-
maceutical industry make sure that no contaminated food, cosmetics or pharmaceuticals
reach the market. Oftentimes this even requires an absolutely sterile production environment.
The drive solutions used in such produc-tion areas have often seriously impaired the necessary cleaning processes of the production system. Standard motors often come equipped with cooling fins and fans in which dirt can accumulate and germs and bacteria may be distributed via air turbulences. It may also be impossible to remove the dirt completely due to poor accessibility of the drive components within
the system. Another problem occurs if the drive components are not resistant to the aggressive cleaning agents and disinfectants: The surfaces may be damaged (such as paint damages) and it may not be possible to maintain the hygienic guidelines.

DAS Series Motors
The DAS series motors are not equipped with fans, which prevents a distribution of germs
by air circulations. They are available in three motor sizes of types DAS80, DAS90 and
DAS100 that can be mounted directly to helical, parallel shaft helical, helical-bevel,
helical-worm or SPIROPLAN® gear units. The smooth surface of the DAS series motors
makes for easy cleaning. This design prevents the accumulation of dirt and almost
completely prevents the formation of germs or bacteria.
Advantages of the DAS series Gearmotors from SEW-EURODRIVE also create the perfect conditions in your production system for the production and packaging of food and beverages as well as pharmaceutical products.

Advantages of the ASEPTICplus drive packageThe ASEPTICplus drive package for the gearmotor (DAS series) offers a high degree of protection against corrosion as well as aggressive clean-ing agents and disinfectants. In addition to the high-quality material used for bolts, oil seals and output shafts, the drives are completely protected by the OS4 surface treatment.
SEW-EURODRIVE had the resistance of the OS4 surface treatment tested and certified for those cleaning agents and disinfectants customary in the different branches of industry. Such a sur-face treatment meets the high requirements made on a hygienic environment. It also dramatically increases the service life of the operated drives and the availability of the entire system.

This certificate is based on:– documented test procedure according to
material resistance– defined product descriptions– standardized cleaning procedure
Test procedure:The testing cycle (1,500 cycles) simulates daily cleaning according to product-specific instructions for a time period of five years.
Evaluation takes place approximately seven days after regeneration.
