Welcome to 20132013 brings change in the Sewing School. Alison’s workshops willconcentrate on fit and technique, with you making a garment foryourself on many of the classes. Students need to be familiar withcommercial patterns and basic sewing techniques.
Workshops commence at 10.00am prompt and finish at approximately4.00pm. The workshop fee of £100 per day includes the use of all thesewing machines and overlockers and on some workshops includesmaterials, on other workshops you will need to bring your patternand fabric.
Please read the course content carefully to make sure you comeprepared.
Early booking is recommended with the course fee payable in advance.Payment can be made by credit or debit card. Stage payment optionsare also available, please contact Alison for details. Learn the skills involved in making exquisite lingerie. These skillscan be for the overlocker or sewing machine and samples will bemade using both types of machine. Learn how to work with biascut fabric, appliqué lace, insert lace and apply elastics. A full setof samples will be made using a variety of fabrics and all studentswill make a pair of lacy knickers!

Are you terrified of your overlocker? Do you just use it forneatening seams? If so this is the workshop for you. Discoverhow to use the overlocker to its best advantage, navigate aroundcurves and angles and use a rolled hem setting to create tucksand lettuce leaf edges. All students will make a simple item totake home.
You may bring your own overlocker if you wish but it musthave been pat tested and you must bring your instruction book.

Come and finish off that garment that has been causing all theproblems, or maybe cut out that difficult one way fabric. Iffinishing is not your problem then why not come along and haveyour commercial patterns fitted to you. Bring along your patternsand we will adjust for your figure type and then make up a toile toensure the fit is perfect. This really is your day – make the most ofit. Make sure you bring plenty of work!

A unique three day workshop to teach you all you need to knowabout the bridal business and the making of bridal and specialoccasion wear, whether it be on a personal or professional level.The construction of the gown will be discussed in detail andsamples will be made that relate to interlined couture bonedbodices with a draped overlay, netted skirts, concealed zips,hemlines and much more. No longer will the dress have wrinklybodices or droopy skirts. We will also produce samples that relateto veils, and bridal favours. Information will be given regardingstockists and suppliers and pricing your gowns. This workshop isa must for all of those planning a wedding or those in the bridalbusiness.
Students will need to supply some fabrics for this class, specialistfabrics are included in the course fee.
Advanced Bridal TechniquesThursday 16 & Friday 17 May 2013Wednesday 30 & Thursday 31 October 2013

Two days on advanced techniques used in special occasionconstruction. These techniques include how to make an innercorseted bodice section and a foundation, for strapless dresses.You must be familiar with bridal construction to benefit fromthis class fully.
Students will need to supply some fabrics for this class, specialistfabrics are included in the course fee.

A real made to measure Chanel jacket costs several thousands ofpounds. The unusual techniques developed by Coco Chanelproduce a jacket that is very comfortable to wear due to the waythe jacket is sewn together. Over three days make a Chanel jacketfor you! Discover how to machine quilt the jacket, hand finish allthe linings and seams and the hand insertion of the sleeve. Comewith a toile ready made to aid the fitting process.

A classic lined dress is a must for any wardrobe, as it can be dressedup or down, worn under a jacket or cardigan or on its own. Thepattern will be fitted, prior to construction. Plenty of tricks of thetrade for fit and construction techniques and hem applications.

On this two day workshop you will make a shirt or blouse or topto fit you. After adjusting the pattern, you will make your chosengarment in a fabric of your own choice, which could be a woven ora stretch knit. Learn all the tricks of the trade to turn a shirt collar,place a ruffle onto a blouse or insert a sleeve.

A two day workshop to achieve that perfect pair of trousers. Youwill work from a commercial pattern and shape the trouser leg,crutch and waist for your body measurements and comfort. Youwill then make the trousers in calico and perfect the fit. Once thishas been achieved we will make you a paper pattern. On day twowe will go on and make the trousers in a fabric of your own choiceand discover how to make a fly front zip and waist and hemfinishes.

On this unique two day workshop you will make an authenticVictorian corset using not only an original Victorian pattern,c1860, but also authentic fabrics including a waist stay and spiralboning techniques. You can make the basic corset or for those withcorset making experience choose one of our alternative patterns.
Please bring your own top fabric and lining fabric. Coutil andbusks, spirals etc will be available to purchase on the day.

City and GuildsIf you love sewing and wish to improve your skills why not studyin greater depth and get a qualification. We are the only sewingschool able to offer this qualification. Full details can be found onmy web site at www.schoolofsewing.co.uk.
Students need to enrol for City & Guilds before the end of 2012as the course starts in January 2013.
Private TuitionTuition is also available with Alison on a one to one basis attimes and dates that are mutually convenient.
