Dreams (English Department – Morning Assembly Speech) A very good morning to the Principal of SMK Undang Rembau, the Senior Assistant of Administration, the Senior Assistant of Students Affair, the Senior Assistant of Co curriculum, all the teachers and all the schoolmate.I am Syafiqah Redzwan and I am Nurhassniza Izzaty from Class 5 Zuhrah. Today, we going to share with you something about dreams. Do you know what is dream exactly? Dreams are sequence of images, sounds and feelings experienced while sleeping. They are strongly associated with rapid eye movement sleep. The contents and biological purposes of dreams are not fully understood, though they have been a topic of speculation and interest throughout recorded history. The scientific study of dreams is known as oneirology. Why do we dream? There are many hypotheses about the function of dreams. For example, during the night, there may be many external stimuli irritating the senses, but the mind interprets the stimulus and makes it a part of a dream in order to ensure continued sleep. However, the mind will awake the people if they are in danger or if trained to respond to certain sounds, such as a baby crying. Some said dreams are like the cleaning-up operations of computers when they are off-line, removing parasitic nodes and other "junk" from the mind during sleep. Dreams also create new ideas through the generation of random thought mutations. Some of these may be rejected by the mind as useless, while others may be seen as valuable and retained. But, I believe that, what you think will lead to what you dream. Isn’t it? How dream can occur? Dreams mainly occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage of sleep—when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. REM sleep is revealed by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep. At times, dreams may occur during other stages of sleep. However, these dreams tend to be much less vivid or memorable.Dreams can last for a few seconds, or as long as twenty minutes. People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase. The average person has about 3 to 5 dreams per night, but some may have up to 7 dreams in one night. The dreams tend to last longer as the night progresses. During a full 8-hour night sleep, two hours of it

A very good morning to the Principal of SMK Undang Rembau, the Senior Assistant of

Administration, the Senior Assistant of Students Affair, the Senior Assistant of Co

curriculum, all the teachers and all the schoolmate.I am Syafiqah Redzwan and I am

Nurhassniza Izzaty from Class 5 Zuhrah. Today, we going to share with you something

about dreams.

Do you know what is dream exactly? Dreams are sequence of images, sounds and

feelings experienced while sleeping. They are strongly associated with rapid eye movement

sleep. The contents and biological purposes of dreams are not fully understood, though they

have been a topic of speculation and interest throughout recorded history. The scientific

study of dreams is known as oneirology.

Why do we dream? There are many hypotheses about the function of dreams. For

example, during the night, there may be many external stimuli irritating the senses, but the

mind interprets the stimulus and makes it a part of a dream in order to ensure continued

sleep. However, the mind will awake the people if they are in danger or if trained to respond

to certain sounds, such as a baby crying. Some said dreams are like the cleaning-up

operations of computers when they are off-line, removing parasitic nodes and other "junk"

from the mind during sleep. Dreams also create new ideas through the generation of random

thought mutations. Some of these may be rejected by the mind as useless, while others may

be seen as valuable and retained. But, I believe that, what you think will lead to what you

dream. Isn’t it?

How dream can occur? Dreams mainly occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage

of sleep—when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. REM sleep is

revealed by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep. At times, dreams may occur

during other stages of sleep. However, these dreams tend to be much less vivid or

memorable.Dreams can last for a few seconds, or as long as twenty minutes. People are

more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase. The

average person has about 3 to 5 dreams per night, but some may have up to 7 dreams in one

night. The dreams tend to last longer as the night progresses. During a full 8-hour night

sleep, two hours of it is spent dreaming.

In the past, dreams were historically used for healing as well as for guidance or divine

inspiration. Some Native American tribes used vision quests as a rite of passage, fasting and

praying until an anticipated guiding dream was received, to be shared with the rest of the

tribe upon their return. Nowadays, some psychologists use a method called ‘hypnogenesis’

to make people dream and to help them from suffering mental disorder.

Although there has been many studies investigating dreams, we only know little about

it. So, try to dream tonight and know more about dreams. Thank you!
