DRAW ANNUAL AUCTION DRAW’s Annual Auction was held during the AAA Texas Fall National at the Texas Motorplex in Dallas, TX, on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Preparation started on Wednesday when Vicki Aswege, Steve LeSueur, Sarah McLemore and Rosalee Noble met with track personnel to discuss the auction. We made a few little changes in the layout of the room which seemed to work well. Thursday and Friday, Sarah, Rosalee, Chris and Karla Hardesty, Nancy Ross and Theresa Tilford passed out flyers in the pit. Saturday morning they were there at 7 am to unload the trailer with all the auction items in it and move them into the Champion Club before they served breakfast. During the day Yokie Van Vallis and Judy St. Denis logged in auction items that came in during the day. The auction was schedule to start at 7:30 pm but because some delays on the track it got started a little late. Bob Frey once again was the auctioneer. A lot of people come just to see Bob get top dollar out of the items. Alan Reinhart assisted Bob but because the delay in the racing program, Brian Lohnes another member of the current announcer staff, filled in until Alan could get there. These gentleman do such a great job. There is no way DRAW can express our thanks to them. Prior to the start of the auction, jewelry bags were sold which contained a piece of DRAW’s automotive jewelry and a number. When 100 boxes had been sold, a number was drawn and the person holding that number won a Coach purse. Also, a 50/50 raffle was held. We had a lot of people helping - sell- ing jewelry bags; 50/50 raffle tickets; carrying the items around as they were bid on; working the pick-up area; cashing people out; and you name it, people doing it –Vicki Aswege, Karen Comstock, Olan and Judy Gotcher, Chris and Karla Hardesty, Beth Hyatt, Steve LeSueur, Bethany McLemore, William and Sarah McLemore, Kelly McLemore, Mickey and Beth Prestridge, Terry and Rosalee Noble, Nancy Ross, Bob and Dee Suchowierski Judy St. Denis, Preston Tanner, Theresa Tilford, Yvette Williams, Yokie VanVallis, and Ashley Yost. Special Awards pre- sented during the evening were: DRAW Person of the year – Karla Hardesty; DRAW Volunteer of the Year – Annette and Steve Haynes; Diana Keith; DRAW Organization of the Year – Top End Club at ZMax Dragway in Charlotte, NC. AAA Texas Fall Nationals, TexasMotorplex, Dallas. TX. This is oneof the races we all look forward to.It is a great facility, great southernhospitality, good racing and it isthe home of DRAW’s Annual Auc-tion. Dallas is a busy weekend. We had a lot of help in the boothover the weekend since most of theBoard members were there for theauction. We were never all in thebooth at the same time because ofplanning for the auction butWilliam McLemore and Terry Noblewere there all the time taking careof the qualifying and ladder sheetsales. Sarah McLemore and I werethere to open the booth for firstround on qualifying on Thursdaymorning. Friday, Chris and KarlaHardesty, Nancy Ross and TheresaTilford arrived. The weather wasgood to us and sales were goodtoo. We even got a little TV cover-age, as the Fox Sports team was bythe booth early Sunday morning toget some footage and interviewRosalee. During the broadcast, wegot a small piece with some of thatinterview and footage from theauction.NHRA Toyota National at the

Strip, Las Vegas, NV. The secondrace of the season there is so muchdifferent than the first one. Thesecond race, everything is just somuch busier. We started our yearend clearance sale so sales weregood. Pat and Jim Capen from CAcame over for the week to help outand John Frul and Susie Robinsonfrom TX helped all weekend. Infact, John made a trip over to the

track from where they were stayingon Wednesday afternoon to helpus sit up. He was excited to learnhow to run the new printer/copierand the new procedures on quali-fying and ladder sheets. He andSusie are hoping to help at moreraces next year. A lot of our racingfriends from Hawaii attend thisrace and it is always good to seethem.

Keystone NationalsBooth Report

By Steve LeSueurThe rain continues to haunt

this event. Sportsman qualify-ing was rained out basically. Most classes hit eliminationswith only one time trial. The pros ran with less than

two complete qualifying ses-sions.Despite the weather, the

Maple Grove fans are hard coreand there was a lot of peopleon all three days. Booth saleswere down yet again and sheetsales were limited. Pat andKelly Shaeffer persevered, rana 50/50 and made the best of abad situation. This is supposed to be Pat

Shaeffer’s event. I only comealong to help and to run thenew email sheet system thatwas put in place this summer. It was very cool to see the Divi-sion 1 racers seek Pat out, asthis has been her only time atthe race track this season. NHRA has adjusted the

schedule next year to see if wecan get some good weather forboth St. Louis and MapleGrove. Let’s hope it helps.

The NHRA Division 4 LODRS event at No Problem was July 17-19.Since William and I couldn’t be there, SteveHaynes volunteered to set a DRAW booth and sell the qualifying and ladder sheets to the racers. He and Annette, along with the big help of Diana Keith, did a great job. They made $450 for DRAW, just selling the “sheets.” Thanksto all of you.

Our next event, for DRAW, was the NHRA Division 4 JR ET Bracket Finals, at Texas Motorplex, September 12-13,2015. We sold a booth total of $475. This was a little different “audience” than we usually have. Being that we sawnew people, we did well selling our tee shirts, visors and decals.

The next weekend, September 18-20, 2015, we were at Thunder Road Raceway, Gilliam, LA. We definitely had acrowd of racers. When there’s a large sportsman car count, that’s always good for DRAW. This race draws a goodnumber of spectators. Those two things, combined means DRAW had a very successful weekend. Our booth total was$2394.00

This is the time of the year that DRAW is soliciting people who would be interested in serving two years of theDRAW Board of Trustees. We need people who believe in our mission of helping racers injured in a race related acci-dent. If you’re not interested in being on the board of trustees, we also need volunteers to work on our committees.DRAW isn’t one or two people. It is a group of men and women working together to attain our goals. Think about it.We need you. If you’re interested, please call me at 281-424-2349.

The 2016 racing season has come to a close. Now we can sit back and take a breath and make plans for 2017. Our last divisional race was NHRA Division 4 LODRS at Thunder Valley Raceway, Noble, OK, October 7-9. It was a

great weekend of racing. The DRAW booth raised $1772. It’s always good to see everyone that comes by the booth. The next weekend was the DRAW Annual Auction at Texas Motorplex. During the auction, awards are given to

very deserving people and companies that have helped DRAW in very specials ways during the year. This year theVolunteer of the Year Award was given to Annette and Steve Haynes and Diana Keith for all of the help they gaveDRAW at the NHRA Division 4 races. We appreciate them so much.

Enjoy your time away from the race tracks. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas. Until 2017,

Sarah McLemore

NOTE FROM A FANI just wanted to drop you a line to say a Big Thank You. This summer Mike Holland, Beaver Springs Dragway, got

hurt. I saw this happen. I am BSD’s #1 fan. These racers and their family and crew are my family. I am 72 years oldon a very limited income. I wish I could afford more. I love drag racing.

Then on October 23, 2016, Sam Ficarra, wrecked his bike at Mason Dixon. He is a member of Beaver Springs Drag-way. I wasn’t there.

I understand as of October 28, 2016, that you are already helping him. ¬¬¬THANK YOU.

Keep up the good work.Sincerely,

Ethel Moffitt
