Dragon Tips
• It is very important to regularly save your commands and vocabulary. When you update to a
new version of Dragon, or if you need to create a new profile, you will need to import your
commands and vocabulary.
• If there is a new version of Dragon, or you’ve had to reinstall the program, do not load an
old profile. The only important thing is having a copy of your commands and vocabulary.
• If you find Dragon does not understand your dictation
o “Check microphone” in “Settings” → Microphone
o “Launch accuracy tuning” in “Tools” → “Accuracy center”
• If you find that Dragon does not understand particular words or phrases you can add them
to the vocabulary, and train the pronounciation
o “Add new word or phrase” in “Tools” → “Vocabulary Center”
o Type how you want the word to be written in the left text field, and the spoken form
in the right text field. Eg written word: telephone,mobile/spoken word image
telephone mobile)
• Please note some properties for individual vocabulary needs to be manually changed. See
here for more information

Options – Appearance
(no changes to default settings)
It is recommended that the results box be anchored rather than floating. This is to ensure you can
look in the same place to see whether Dragon has heard you correctly. For example, the top right
hand corner of the screen. For most programs, this space is blank, however it will sometimes cover
information. It will disappear when Dragon is not listening for commands.
This is how it will look for various programs:
Chrome: Outlook: Word:

Options – Hot Keys
• It is better that the microphone is “off” rather than on “sleep” mode. If the microphone is on
“sleep” mode, it will continue to analyse your speech. Dragon may interpret words similar to
“wake up” in your conversation or a conversation nearby, and then turn itself on.
• Shortcuts can be reentered or edited as required.

“Auto-Formatting” Settings
The following settings are access from Tools/Auto-Formatting Options
Numbers, if greater than or equal to 10 will have Dragon type like this:
One two three four five six seven eight nine 10 11 etc
Numbers, if greater than or equal to 2 will have Dragon type like this:
One two 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 etc
Numbers, if greater than or equal to 0 will have Dragon type like this:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 19 etc
You need this setting for the Dashboard macros to work. This is so “refine search 2 will open the
jump text box and type “2”, not “two”. Please be aware that “the first report” will be typed “the 1st
report” because of this setting. This is will need to be fixed manually if you use Dragon to write
reports.
Numbers, if greater than or equal to [10] will have Dragon type like this:
One two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven etc
