Closing the Education Gap: Discuss opportunities to enable government- and industry-sponsored education and skills development in your community. 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Break-out Session 2: Community Impacts Understand the cumulative impacts of resource development on community well-being. Break-out sessions will include: • Cumulative Impacts (Panel Discussion): Expert speakers on the topic of cumulative

effects management will discuss the challenges and tools available to understanding the cumulative effects of resource development activities.

• Pipeline Safety & Spill Response: Significant measures are being taken by government and industry to increase safety and to reduce environmental risks for pipeline transmission. What steps are being taken and how can your community be part of the solution?

• Advancing your Community Vision: Where do you want your community to be in 5-10 years? Learn how a well-executed organizational strategy can help achieve that vision.

• Financial Management Essentials: Discuss how Financial Management is a foundation for strong government and how it relates to other major community initiatives.

• Social Impact Assessments: Environmental impacts often become the focus of resource development discussions – but what about the impacts on our communities’ population, social attitudes, health, safety and culture?

9:00 am – 10:00 am Panel Session: Communications & Relationship Building A panel of First Nation, industry and government leaders will discuss the ever-increasing importance of communications and relationship-building moving forward.

10:00 am – 11:30 am Break-out Session 3: Finding Common Ground Explore the common interests and opportunities for increased partnering and unity amongst BC First Nations. Break-out sessions will include: • Defining Meaningful Engagement: The opportunity to re-invent how First Nation

communities are engaged within energy projects in Canada has never been greater. Discuss how to leverage LNG and implement a “new approach.”

• Finding Common Ground: From well to tanker, First Nation communities throughout BC share common interests and desired outcomes. Define these shared goals and how communities can cooperatively work together to further this vision.

• Moving from Litigation to Negotiation: Engage in a solution-focused discussion aimed at exploring dispute resolution principles and techniques.

• The Asian/First Nations Connection: Asia represents the single largest market for BC’s LNG production; what are Asia’s interests in LNG and First Nations engagement?

• Potential of an Energy Corridor: Discuss the opportunity to pursue a coordinated approach to the expansion and development of a Northern BC energy corridor.

1:00 pm – 2:30 pm Break-out Session 4: Capacity Building Share ideas and develop best practices for building capacity towards more meaningful engagement and participation. Potential sessions may include: • Impact Benefit Agreements & Negotiations: Build your toolkit for developing

successful partnerships between First Nation communities and private sector proponents through impact benefit agreements and partnership agreements.

• Proactively Participating in Project Approval Processes: Learn about the different approval processes for natural gas/LNG projects in BC, as well as effective strategies to review project referrals and ensure Aboriginal Rights and Title are respected

• Business Governance: A practical discussion about the successful elements and tools for a business-ready First Nations Business Structure.

• Community Governance Strategies: Discuss the tools and resources required for governance and community management in order to leverage the unique opportunities presented by LNG development.

• Colleagues, Council, Committees and Community: How strong is your ‘internal’ communication? This informal workshop aims to enable a discussion about the different audiences within a community, and to share ideas and lessons learned about communicating effectively with your community members, staff and council.
