She earned her PhD from the Julius-Maximilian University Wurzburg, Germany, where she studied immune escape mechanisms of tumours. Her postdoctoral training at the Ludwig-Maximilian University Munich and at Queen’s University Belfast focussed on innate and adaptive immune mechanisms in autoimmune diseases such as Psoriasis and Multiple Sclerosis (Dombrowski et al, Science Translational Medicine 2011; Dombrowski et al Nature Neuroscience, 2017). The Dombrowski group investigates innate and adaptive immune mechanisms that promote tissue repair after sterile and infectious tissue damage, with particular focus on the role of regulatory T cells and inflammasomes in CNS repair in the context of Multiple Sclerosis. Another line of investigation studies the role of inflammasomes in tissue repair at other anatomical sites such as the lung, the bladder and the oral cavity. Dr Dombrowski receives funding from The Leverhulme Trust, The Royal Society, The Fritz-Thyssen Foundation and The Medical Research Fund.
