Technical and Professional Fields

International Relations Managing and coordinating all existing Sister City agreements. Throughthe sister city’s programme the unit will ensure that the municipality develops a globalpartnership for development and environmental sustainability. All Sister city partnerships arebased on formal cooperation agreements that focus on the following areas of cooperation:

Economic development and trade and investment promotion.

Sport and youth development, Social upliftment and development, Environment protection,Culture, arts and tourism, Health, Educational support, skills transfer and sharing of skills andmodels of good practise, Promoting political, social and economic good will between Durbanand international cities.

Safety and security

Researching and recommending strategic international cities to partner with the eThekwinimunicipality.

International relations support services to council and clusters

Providing a service to all clusters on international relations to ensure efficiency, effectivecoordination, liaison with relevant authorities and pre and post visit reporting mechanisms.

Providing strategic advise and support to the Mayors office, the Speaker, the City Manager,Deputy City Managers and Heads of Units on all proposed international visits and partnerships.

Coordinating all support services to all clusters/units implementing projects that haveinternational partners.

International donor relations

Developing data basis and central registry of all existing contracts with international donoragencies.

Accessing international donor agencies to develop partnerships with relevant line departmentsand organs of civil society within the municipality

Hosting events that profile the municipality amongst international donor agencies.
