What is “ tissue relaxation“?The tissue relaxation is a phenomena which occurs in particular on the epidermis superficial layer, making it flabby and wrinkly. This is mainly due to sensitive liquid losses and consequential elastin and collagene decrease. The aim of a tonifying product is to act specifically on the superficial marks, aiding the water retention and thus reactivating the elastinand collagene functionality.

This term is commonly used to define an increase in the upper-external thigh body volume. This inesthetism may be due to several

causes, which are to be treated with different methods. Being this phenomenon effect of a disturbance in the metabolism of the subcutaneous connectival tissue which develops fibro- oedematous phenomena, the most proper denomination should be subcutaneous geloid fibro- oedema. The connectival tissue is constituted by a fundamental substance composed by mucopolysaccharides, proteins, aminoacids, glycides, sodiumpotassium-

chlorine ions and water, which do form fibres having the form of an elastic network that wraps, supports and divides our muscles. Due to many reasons, the connectival tissue acids may be subject to a process called polymerisation, which makes their macro-molecules join each other in chains or mass, thus performing an increase in the fundamental substance viscosity and turbidity, obstructing the cellular exchanges and causing a remarkable water retention.Under these conditions, among the stagnant liquids a Gram + bacteria named Streptococcus pyogenes ( = pus producer) is originated. ( According to the Gram colouring method for bacteria classification, all bacteria which resist to the decolouring treatment are defined Gram+, The others are Gram- ). Cellulite nodules are as such originated and will soon be subject to a process of blemishing cicatrising fibrosis (cellulite ). The events linked to the formation of cellulite may be: predisposing factors or incidental factors. Cellulite may appear in three different forms, each one having specific peculiarities: area diffused cellulite - localised cellulite general cellulite The area diffused cellulite is the most common cellulite type ( 60% ) and is recognisable in three types: TYPE A: Affecting the lower body half, most exactly hips, knees, calves and ankles. Women bearing this kind of cellulite have been often subject toirregular menstrual cycles, and do suffer or have suffered of peripheral vascular dysfunction such as cold extremities or excessive hands perspiration.TYPE B: Affecting thighs, hips and glutei, causing a quite characteristic body shape.TYPE C : Is the most common type and, because affecting the whole lower body half, may be said to be equal to A+B types. The first localisation appears on thighs and glutei, where the circulation is always difficult because of the body pressure and of the slow blood reflux; these two factors bring to a vascular stasis which makes the body prone to the cellulite infiltration process. Localised cellulite, which represents a 20% percentage of all cellulite cases, begins when well defined cellulite nodules appear, mainly on face, in the eye-bone areas, on the nape of the neck, bust, breasts, abdomen, back and basin joints, most frequently in women who do not suffer of obesity. Generalised cellulite, which represent the last 20%, hits both the lower and the upper body half and affect women prone to obesity and those used to follow a non-balanced diet, especially rich in sugars and farinaceous.

What is localised adiposity?Localised adiposity is quite different from cellulite. Basically, it is a fat accumulation inside the adipose cell, which however remains healthy and reactive towards stimuli. This kind of

ELASTIN is responsible for the tissue elasticity inside the connective layer. Our body however stops producing elastin when we reach adulthood. Our natural elastin is no longer renewed, thus, with aging, the elastic fibres progressively degenerate and separate into fragments. The skin progressively loses its elasticity and lines and wrinkles start appearing. This damage to our elastic tissue cannot be avoided and is part of our natural aging process. This is the reason why Elastin is of the utmost importance in dermo-cosmetology as it can compensate for the loss of elastic matter in the derm, being able to regenerate and replenish the missing level of natural elastin, thus making our skin look much younger.

KIGELIA AFRICANA is a sacred African tree, mainly localised in Senegal, where the extract of its fruits, in decoct form, is traditionally used by women to keep their bust firm. The Kigelia Africana extract is in fact working as an hormon-like product, being able to: Increase the activity of dermic fibroblasts Increase skin rates of water, hyaluronic acid and collagen proving as such to realise excellent performances as body tonifier and hardener, as well as in improving skin firmness and elasticity.

The System: Basing on the discovery of the cellulite to be from bacterial origin, the Cellupro’+ kit was studied to treat this disease with the same criteria applied in the treatment of any bacterial infection. However, antibiotics, commonly used in these kind of therapies, are not applicable in the beauty field. As such, the first step was to replace them with substances available and allowed to cosmetologists, being of natural or synthesis origin. The ingredients selected in our case for the treatment of bacterial cellulite are: PROPOLIS and CAPSICUM ( see ingredients list ). In the Cellupro’+ kit, capsicum is used for its hyperaemic effect, which does create the right conditions for the maximum absorption of propolis by the tissues. The jojoba granules contained in the pills have proved to be quite useful in case of thick. And compact tissues, when a mechanic dermo- abrasion is required, being as such a valid aid in the penetration of the actives.

to understand the active mechanism of the saponins in Ivy and what their role is in cellulitic treatments. It has been found that it is the sapogenines in Ivy which have an inhibitory effect over the hyauronidase enzyme, the enzyme that takes part in the turnover of the components in the vascular area.

BILBERRY EXTRACT: Also called " European blueberry", bilberry is widely recognized for its antioxidant properties. It is a bioflavonoid (anthocyanocide or proanthocyanidin, PCO, type) with active ingredients similar to those found in grapes (Vitis vinifera). Besides its antioxidant action, bilberry

has anti-inflammatory factors, anti-clotting factors, and several properties which result in a collagen-stabilizing effect. (Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, predominantly in the connective tissues.) This effect strengthens the veins by restoring the connective tissue sheath which surrounds them. In turn, new capillaries and collagen fibrils are formed. In addition, the capillary permeability and fragility are decreased, while local micro-circulation is improved.

CARNITINE: L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino-acid, which is produced endogenously ( i.e. by the body ) or obtained by the consumption of red meat. In the body, one of the most fundamental roles of L-Carnitine is the transport of long chain fatty acids which shall be converted in energy. L-Carnitine is therefore essential for fat metabolism and energy production. Given the ability of L-Carnitine to play a major role in fat metaboslim,it is not surprising that one of the first cosmetic applications of this material was in contouring creams and in cellulite control. However, it has been found that the major benefits brought to the cosmetic landscape lie in the areas of skin-nourishment, moisturization, exfoliation and skin-repair. As a micronutrient, L-Carnitine energyzes the skin. Being hygroscopic, L-Carnitine has also the ability, even at low levels, to hydrate the skin, leaving it softer, smoother and moisturized.L-Carnitine is also a superior exfoliating system. In healthy skin, the outermost cells in the horny layer are constantly being removed and replaced by new cells generated in the basal layer of the epidermis. Increasing the cellular turn-over has as such the result of leaving the skin looking younger and healthier. The most common and known exfoliators and turn-over accelerators are AHAS and Glycolic Acid, whcih however have their maximum effect at low pH. In contrast to these acids, L-Carnitine actually exfoliates better at pH closer to 7 (neutral ) , thus proving to be an ingredient quite free from sideeffects, which can be safely used on all skin types, even the most delicate, and in any climate conditions.

CAFFEINE is a compoud found naturally in such foods as coffee beans, tea, cacao beans, guaranà. It is well known as a stimulant of the CNS, heart and respiration. Used in skin-care preparations, it stimulates the microcirculation, reducing fine lines and expression lines, as well as operating an excellent draining action by diminishing fluids retention and reinforcing the elasticity of the skin. Applied on eye-contour products it reduces the appearance of dark circles, fatigue and puffiness .

EDEMINE ( Escin + Lecithin ): The active ingredients of Horse-Chestnut, escin, complexed with phospholipids ( lecithin ), is a selective veno-tonic agent, to be used in cases of skin resistance

alterations and compromised capillary permeability. With bright anti-oxidant effect,it increases capillary resistance, while contrasting the action of free-radicals; helps the removal of stagnating liquids inside tissues, thus resulting particularly suitable to the treament of aedematous

situations.

MURUMURU BUTTER: Murumuru grows in the Amazon Basins, Brazil. The large fruits are edible, and the seed kernel is a significant source of edible oil. The kernel also produces a rich extract used by the beauty industry for shampoos, conditioners and skin care products. The lipids present in the plant material hydrate and moisturize the skin ina very intense way. The emolliency supports the integrity of the skin's cutaneous barrier. Moreover, murumuru isfull of nourishing vitamins and minerals. The rich butter made from murumuru is a light amber color, with an earthen aroma. It is rich in oleic acid, which promotes health. Oleic acid-rich Botanicals aid with moisture retention, benefiting the skin and hair. The emollient constituents in murumuru enhance the natural fairy look of young skin and provide bio-repair aid to damaged skins.

SEAWEEDS are the primary source of life and have been used since antiquity. They absorb by osmosis all the elements from the sea, and serve as an ideal medium to deliver all the nutritive benefits from the sea to the skin. The many benefits we find in sea-water are due to its similarity in composition with our own plasma. When applied onto the skin, seaweed products offer miscellaneous actions:Rebalancing, Nourishing, Hydrating,Cell Regenerating, Detoxifying, Purifying, Oxygenating, Remineralizing. This is achieved dueto the concentration of the following elements: Mineral Salts, Amino Acids, Vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B 12, E, PP, K, D., and trace elements like Iodine, Iron, Manganese, Boron, Cobalt. Copper, Zinc, Bromium, Nickel, Strontium, Aluminum, Barium, Titanium, Arsenic, Silver, Gold, Chromium, Fluorine, Tin. Sea-derivated products have the ability to stimulate circulation andthe flow of oxygen to the deeper layers of the skin , which results in the exchange of substances through elimination of toxins = increase in the flow of nutrients.

How do seaweed interact with our body?Seaweeds can perform different actions on our body as they are available to release marine elements by osmosis. Osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration, through a semi-permeable membrane,to a region of low water concentration.Semi-permeable membranes are very thin layers of material ( cell membranes are semi-permeable ) which allow some things to pass through them but prevent other things from passing through. Cell membranes will allow small molecules like oxygen, water, amino-acids, glucose, etc. to pass through, but will not allow the passage of largermolecules such as sucrose, starch, proteins, etc. Thus, they play a double-role inour body.

How come that the same ingredient ( SEAWEED ) is used for miscellaneous cosmetic purposes ( moisturizing, slimming, etc. )?When you put a cell into a liquid containing water, one of the two following things will happen:1.if the medium surrounding the cell has a higher water concentration than the cell, the cell will gain water by osmosis ( moisturizing action ).

2. if the medium has a lower concentration of water than the cell, the cell will loose water by osmosis. Water crosses the cell membranes in both directions, but this time more water leaves the cell than enters it. Therefore, the cell will shrink ( reducing action).

PROPOLIS: Propolis is a substance basically constituted by resin and resins’ secretions, collected by the bees on trees, then mixed and elaborated with saliva and wax. The bees, apart from using the propolis to obstruct the beehive entrance, especially when the winter comes, do use it to close all openings eventually present in their home, or to paint its internal walls with a thin propolis layer. Propolis is also used to preserve the bodies of the beehive invaders, which the bees kill but cannot transport outside. The bodies of these little animals, abundantly covered with propolis, get dry without being putrefied. Probably, the knowledge and use of propolis as an antiseptic remedy in popular medicine, was originated by observing these events. Propolis performs a relevant antibacterial, antioxidant, vasoprotective and immunostimulating action, being a valid aid in the Otorhinolaryngologic affections besides the dermatological ones. It is also a Vit. B12 ( riboflavine ) , B5 ( pantotenic acid ) and folic acid integrator. In surgical affections, the raw propolis, such as propolis in alcoholic and glycolic solution, has proven an extraordinary efficacy, both alone or, in the worst cases, in association with the Bruschettini polyvalent antipyogen vaccine. Propolis, which is a real natural antibacterial, was used during the Krimea War, and has proven to be able to stop the proliferation of Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria.

CAPSICUM: Belonging to the botanical family of the Solanacee, like potato, tomato and tobacco, it is a yearly plant, imported from the Americas from Cristoforo Colombo after his discovery. The drug is constituted by the fruit containing capsicine, an oily rubefascient substance, and thecapsaicine, responsible for the warming taste. From these simple analysis, one can derive the richness in vitamines and enzymes proper of this fruit. Particularly, its vitamines are important stimulators of the vitality of the tissues and the whole body as well. The precious preserving properties of red chilly are however able to perform their activity only under precise circumstances: due to their thermolability ( a temperature more than 70 would destroy them ), the fruits have to be assumed raw, or mixed raw to cooked food. In skin-care, capsicum is used for its hyperaemic effect, which do create theright conditions for the maximum absorption of actives by the tissues.

IVY EXTRACT has a great application in cosmetics as a cellulitic agent, due to its properties as an antiiflammatory and pain killer provided by the saponosides and flavonoids. The flavonoids exercise a protective action over the skin. The and α β hederins have beenattributed with an astringent and vasoconstrictor action. Work has recently been carried out
