Song of Assembly1

Lead On, O King Eternal ShurtleffLead on, O King eternal, the day of march has come;

Henceforth in fields of conquest, thy tents shall be our home.Through days of preparation, thy grace has made us strong;

And now, O King eternal, we lift our battle song.

Lead on, O King eternal, till sin’s fierce war shall cease,And holiness shall whisper, the sweet amen of peace.

For not with swords loud clashing, nor roll of stirring drums;With deeds of love and mercy the heavenly kingdom comes.

So lead on, O King, Lead on, O King,Lead on, O King, Lead on.

Lead on, O King eternal, we follow, not with fears,For gladness breaks like morning where’er thy face appears.

Thy cross is lifted o’er us, we journey in its light;The crown awaits the conquest; lead on, O God of might.

Welcome and Preparation for Worship“Then he isn’t safe?” said Lucy. “Safe?” said Mr. Beaver. “Don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anythingabout safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe! But he’s good. He’s the king, I tell you.” ~C.S. Lewis, The Lion, The Witch, and the WardrobeThe next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branchesof palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even theKing of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,

“Fear not, daughter of Zion;behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!”

His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these thingshad been written about him and had been done to him. ~The Gospel of John

Palm Processional The King of Glory Comes Jabusch

The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices.Open the gates before him, lift up your voices.

Who is the King of glory? What shall we call him?He is Immanuel, the promised of ages.

In all of Galilee, in city or village,He goes among his people, curing their illness.

He gave his life for us, the pledge of salvation.He took upon himself the sin of the nations.

He conquered sin and death; he truly has risen.And he will share with us his heavenly kingdom.

THE KING SUMMONS HIS PEOPLECall to Worship2 Zechariah 9:9; Matthew 21:7-11Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteousand having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.... They brought the donkeyand the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, andothers cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followedhim were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in thehighest!” And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” And the crowds said, “Thisis the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Prayer of Adoration & Praise Based on Psalm 118

Hymn of Praise

O Worship the King GrantO worship the King all glorious above, O gratefully sing His pow’r and His love;

Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

O tell of His might, O sing of His grace, whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, and dark is His path on the wings of the storm.

All hail to the King in splendor enthroned; glad praises we bring, thy wonders make known.Returning victorious, great conqueror of sin, King Jesus, all glorious, our vict’ry will win.

Song Here Comes the King Kids of the King

2 We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with his invitation and command to us to gather in His name.2

THE KING ADDS TO HIS CHURCH

We Receive the Landau Family into Membership Brent & Chelsea & Preston, Drake & GarrettTo read more about the Landau family, see page 6.

Solemn Vows (PCA Book of Church Order §57-5) Elder Mike McMahanDo you acknowledge yourselves to be sinners in the sight of God, justly deserving His displeasure, and without hope except throughHis sovereign mercy?

Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and Savior of sinners, and do you receive and rest upon Him alone forsalvation as He is offered in the Gospel?

Do you now resolve and promise, in humble reliance upon the grace of the Holy Spirit, that you will endeavor to live as becomesfollowers of Christ?

Do you promise to support the Church in its worship and work to the best of your abilities?

Do you submit yourselves to the government and discipline of the Church, and promise to study its purity and peace?

Prayer for the Landau Family Elder Stuart Smith

THE KING FEEDS HIS PEOPLEThe Sacrament of the Lord’s SupperCommunion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committedfollowers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims thegospel, who are at peace with God and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus.If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer.We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.

Behold the Lamb Getty/TownendBehold the Lamb who bears our sins away, slain for us: and we rememberThe promise made that all who come in faith find forgiveness at the cross.

So we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice,As a sign of our bonds of peace around the table of the King.

The body of our Savior, Jesus Christ, torn for you: eat and rememberThe wounds that heal, the death that brings us life, paid the price to make us one.

So we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice,As a sign of our bonds of love around the table of the King.

5

Page 7: DPC Bulletin - April 1, 2012

The blood that cleanses every stain of sin, shed for you: drink and rememberHe drained death’s cup that all may enter in to receive the life of God.

So we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice,As a sign of our bonds of grace around the table of the King.

And so with thankfulness and faith we rise to respond: and to remember.Our call to follow in the steps of Christ as His body here on earth.As we share in His suffering, we proclaim: Christ will come again!And we’ll join in the feast of heaven around the table of the King.

4 Just as God called us into His presence at the beginning, so now He commands His blessing upon us as we depart. We look up and extend our handsin a posture of thanksgiving as we receive this great gift. Our final response to God’s assurance of His peace and presence upon those who are in Christis a chorus of joyful song.

Introduction of New MembersThe Landau family has been attending DPC since November 2011. They relocated to Decatur when Brent accepteda position of engineering manager with a local robotics integrator, Global Systems, LLC. Chelsea and Brent are fromEdwardsville, IL (near St. Louis MO). They met in high school and were married in 1999 after graduating fromcollege. God has blessed them with three children, Preston (9), Drake (7), and Garrett (4).

Chelsea is a “domestic engineer” i.e. stay at home mom. She homeschools Preston and Drake, while Garrett attendspreschool. Brent and the boys enjoy trains and anything that shoots or runs on diesel fuel. Chelsea has been labeled a“militant couponer” for demonstrating her superior skills in clipping and strategically using coupons.

The Landaus are adjusting well to Decatur despite the high pollen counts and their ignorance of college football. Theylook forward to worshiping with their new family at DPC!
