Industry news 5 Filtration+Separation December 2008 Millipore opens Irish membrane production facility Bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing company, Millipore Corp has opened a new membrane casting manufacturing facility in Carrigtwohill, County Cork, Ireland. The 30,000 ft 2 facility almost doubles the company’s membrane production capabilities in Ireland. The new US$83 million membrane casting facility, which will employ more than 580 people, is expected to produce a majority of the company’s membrane. WEF announces 2008-2009 Board of Trustees The Water Environment Federation (WEF) has announced the members of its 2008-2009 Board of Trustees. Consisting of six officers and twelve board members, the individuals were confirmed by WEF’s House of Delegates during WEFTEC in Chicago, Illinois, USA. During a ceremony on 21 October, the WEF ‘gavel of leadership’ was passed from president Adam Zabinski to incoming president, Rebecca West, director of Technical Services for the Spartanburg Sanitary Sewer District in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA. In addition to president West the remaining 2008-2009 officers and trustees can be found at www.wef.org At the beginning of December, Dow Water Solutions will join David H. Paul Seminars to host Fundamentals of Water Treatment, a three-day seminar for water industry professionals, managers and engineers. Held in Edina, Minneapolis on 2–4 December, Fundamentals of Water Treatment will focus on ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membrane technologies, offering high-impact sessions, technology demonstrations through video and automation, networking opportunities and tours.
