Page 3: Double Coated Tapes with Adhesive 340 3General Information • 3M Adhesive 340 is a medium-firm acrylic that provides a combination of high initial adhesion to a wide variety of materials,

ApplicationTechniques

Bond strength is dependent upon the amount of adhesive-to-surface contact developed.Firm application pressure helps develop better adhesive contact and improves bondstrength.

To obtain optimum adhesion, the bonding surfaces must be clean, dry and well unified. Some typical surface cleaning solvents are isopropyl alcohol or heptane.

Note: Carefully read and follow the manufacturer’s precautions and directions for usewhen working with solvents.

Ideal tape application temperature range is 70°F to 100°F (21°C to 38°C). Initial tapeapplication to surfaces at temperatures below 50°F (10°C) is not recommended becausethe adhesive becomes too firm to adhere readily. However, once properly applied, lowtemperature holding is generally satisfactory.

General Information • 3M™ Adhesive 340 is a medium-firm acrylic that provides a combination of highinitial adhesion to a wide variety of materials, including many plastics.

• 3M™ Double Coated Tapes 9824, 9828, 9828HL and 9828PC have a film carrier, which can add dimensional stability to foams and other substrates. The carrier alsoprovides easier handling during slitting and die-cutting.

• 3M™ Double Coated Tape 9456 has a tissue carrier, which adds dimensional stabilityfor handling, while still maintaining the flexibility of a free film adhesive.

• Tape 9828HL has a heavy 12 point liner.

• Tape 9828PC has a 74# polycoated kraft liner for moisture stability.

Application Ideas Tapes 9824/9828/9828HL/9828PC Tape 9456• General purpose foam lamination, • End Tabbing.• General purpose lamination for fabricated parts. • Bonding fabric to rigid cardboard.

• Attaching foam to plastics.• Closing CD chipboard mailers.
