Robert has been involved in Jump Racing for the last 30 years or more as both Rider and Trainer. Early riding success in 1970 saw Robert win the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham on Mr Harry Duffosee’s horse ‘Domason’. He became the UK National Champion Point to Point Jockey in 1992.

As a Public Trainer Robert has had much

success, winning 5 races at the Cheltenham National

Hunt Festival including the Gold Cup in 1998. Robert and Sally jointly run the training establishment now with the help of their youngest daughter Louise who

The Dorset Golf & Country Club hosts 27 holes of the most challenging golf in Dorset and is recognized as one of the golfing gems of the South of England.

The Martin Hawtree designed; Lakeland/Parkland and Woodland courses are built to full USGA specification and are extremely well maintained, presenting excellent playing conditions for all levels of golfers.

The Championship Lakeland 9 and the Parkland 9 Courses, Par 72, provides a great golfing experience with beautifully sculptured greens, surrounded by cleverly placed bunkers. The course also boasts some of the most picturesque lakes and waterways you could find on any course.

The Woodland Course, Par 33, offers a contrasting challenge to our main course with tight tree lined fairways, which have been carved through a forest of rhododendrons, a fantastic course to play.

Any combination of the Lakeland, Parkland and Woodland can be combined to create an exciting and different 18 holes each time you play.

We have a floodlit driving range consisting of 16 bays, all under cover, with the best quality range mats and possibly the most unique targeting area to aim at enabling all year round practice that along with a large putting green, practice bunker and chipping area.

During your lessons you may wish to incorporate the use of video. We are currently using state of the art swing analysis software from ‘C-Swing’. You will be able to view your technique in real time, slow motion or freeze frame. We can make comparisons to some of the world’s top golfers and using simple visual aids and diagrams you will see and understand exactly how to take your game to the next level. That’s not all though, at the end of the session your professional will present you with a DvD, session notes and a still picture sequence of your swing from your lesson.

So if you are looking to cure your slice to hit longer drives, want to improve your bunker play or need help with course management and strategy to shave those last few shots off your handicap, we can provide it all!

Here at the Dorset Golf & Country Club, we offer a custom fitting service that allows all golfers to enjoy golf equipment which has been specifically adapted to their individual needs.

Custom fitting can be used to achieve many different aims, such as:

•Adaptingtheclub/stoallowforaplayersphysicaldimensions(taller/shorter/largehandsetc)

•Reducing the destructiveness of a consistent swing fault,without physically altering the golfer’s technique

•Toencouragethecorrecttechniquei.e.theplayerwouldnolonger have to compensate for a component of the club/s that does not fit them correctly

By making simple adjustments to the specifications of a ‘standard’ set of clubs, the golfer who has been custom fitted would find it far easier to return the club, to the ball, in a square position at impact.

Custom fitting will also benefit every golfer, at all levels. At its more technical level, custom fitting can build low handicap golfers and professionals a more efficient swing by refining ball spin and trajectory, to compliment their already proficient technique. Higher handicap players can use adjustments in lie angles and shafts to

overcome repetitive swing faults. Improvers and beginners need well fitted equipment to encourage the correct address position, which will allow them to develop a consistent and reliable technique.

Our experienced and well trained team of PGA Professionals are able to make exacting assessments of your needs. They will consider your physical dimensions during the ‘static fit’ as well as your technique, the ‘dynamic fit’. A hitting session is the only reliable way to produce accurate and correct results.

A custom fitting session here at the Dorset Golf & Country Club will last between 30 minutes and one hour, depending on the nature of the fitting session.

One of the best things about the custom fitting service we offer is it’s free! Whenever you purchase a driver, a set of irons, a wedge or putter from us, your custom fit won’t cost you a penny. Whether you are looking to buy a brand new set or simply looking to see if you could tweak any of your existing clubs, please feel free to make any enquiries with the Golf Shop, who will be more than happy to offer any advice they can.

So unless your clubs have been professionally fitted, they could be responsible for the less than desirable parts of your game.

Sandbanks is a very innovative design that features a cathedral ceiling to the lounge and two very spacious en- suite bedrooms equipped with twin beds. A veranda supplies an outdoor room to the already expansive accommodation. Equipped for up to six guests with fully fitted kitchen and an en-suite shower room tothelounge,whichisequippedwithtwo3’9”sofabeds.

An impressive entrance with an open porch welcomes you. The entrancedoorleadsyoutotheaptlynamed“GreatRoom”.Thefabulous cathedral ceiling timbers are quite breathtaking. A wood burning stove creates a warming focal point to the living area. The main living space contains the fully equipped open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge. The feel of the main living area is one of luxury, cosiness and yet spaciousness. The in house sauna room, bedrooms, utility room and a further showerroomarelocatedeithersideofthe“GreatRoom”.

The master bedroom features a full en-suite bathroom complete with luxury fittings. A very nice design feature of the master bedroom is a door leading you from the bedroom outside, to the spacious west-facing veranda with views across the driving range and open fields.

Landscaped gardens feature a patio area equipped with garden furniture looking over the Resort’s barbeque area. There are two car parking spaces, a locked store room for golf trolleys located at the front of the property.

resorT sTyles Chesil Beach is a spacious two storey, two bedroom home featuring a balcony to the first floor and veranda area to the ground floor. Both bedrooms are en suite with a further shower roomforguestsmakinguseofthetwo3’9”sofabedsinthelounge, together with the internal sauna and utility room, this holiday home must be viewed.

The innovative approach of the architect continues with the Chesil Beach design, which features the living accommodation on the first floor and bedroom accommodation on the ground floor sleeping up to six persons.

Enter the house through the impressive entrance doorway and you immediately see the beautiful winding staircase to the first floor. On the ground floor the two bedrooms are to the right of the hallway; to the left is the sauna and fully equipped utility room. The master bedroom features a fully fitted luxury bathroom and has the benefit of access to the spacious veranda.

As you climb the staircase to the first floor you see the grandeur ofthe“GreatRoom”,thisaccommodatestheluxuriousloungecomplete with wood burning stove, dining area and fully fitted and equipped kitchen. There is also access to a shower room located on this floor. One of Chesils most exciting features is the extensive west-facing balcony, which is accessed from the lounge on the first floor level, which provides you with an outdoor room.

WilDlife / WalKsThe Dorset Golf and Country Club is situated in over three hundred acres of forest and heathland. The ancient forest contains rare species of trees including 500 year old Coppiced Oaks, Douglas Firs, Eucalyptus, Continental Beech, Montaray Pines, Cedar plus many many more. The Forestry Commission stated:“thisancientwoodlandisalivingmuseum”.

For our guests’ enjoyment, pathways have been created throughout the forest with information boards strategically sited and containing information regarding the surrounding flora and fauna.

The pathways have been created to meander around the woodland, these are two, three and four and a half miles long, also bridle paths that surround the perimeters of the golf courses.

We are fortunate to be close to the very centre of the now famousWorldHeritageJurassicCoastlineandforthosewishingto visit this stunning area of the country, views of breathtaking proportion are a few short miles away.

The Dorset Resort is home to an abundance of wildlife, Sika, Muntjac and Roe Deer, Badger, Fox, Hare and Rabbits. Woodpecker, Dartford Warbler, Herron, Kingfisher and Bitten are among our multitude of bird habitants. We must not forget a multitude of butterfly varieties special to the Dorset countryside.

Sturdy footwear is recommended at all times as this area is natural pathways and not manmade tracks.

Enjoy an early morning walk along our beautiful woodland tracks and bridle paths from half a mile to five miles with nothing to disturb the tranquillity but stunning scenery, and an abundance of native wildlife, birds and butterflies.

ClayshooTinGYou’ll find Purbeck Shooting School just two minutes drive from The Dorset Golf & Country Club, set up in 1995 amongst the gorse and pine trees on a traditional rural estate by Graham Brown, you will always be assured of a warm welcome at “Purbeck”.

There are 4 separate bedrooms in the villa; one double, two twins and a single. The larger bedrooms have air con for summer comfort and the entire villa has central heating for those cooler months.

The villa has a very private swimming pool - 9.5 x 4.5 metres in size. There are plenty of sunloungers with cushions and a parasol for shade.There is a gas barbecue and poolside eating area.The pool is maintained for your safety. Water quality is checked twice a week.

Nearest Golf Courses: La Sella - 18 Holes (par 72) in a beautiful setting within the Montgo National park with its many lakes and canals makes a challenging game.

GliDinGEver thought of surfing the air currents thousands of feet above the ground, or flying hundreds of miles across country in a day? Or putting a glider through an aerobatic routine?

Flying a glider is not difficult - if you are capable of driving a car you can be trained to fly a glider. Gliders can fly as high as airliners, can fly hundreds of miles across country, and are aerobatic.

The members and instructors of the Dorset Gliding Club will be delighted to talk to you and show you round; Tea, coffee, cold drinks and toilet facilities are available at the clubhouse. They are a friendly club and welcome visitors and new members. The club fly most weekends and occasional days in the summer andisaffiliatedtotheBritishGlidingAssociation(BGA).

The Dorset Golf & Country Club has just invested one million pounds and has now opened a new bowling rink and fitness centre. The new championship standard three rink bowling arena is ideal for full length or short mat bowling holidays. The arena incorporates a large viewing gallery for spectators, changing rooms, showers, a gymnasium, sauna and tropical shower. All these facilities can be used by members and guests.

Two of the worlds greatest ever bowlers David Bryant C.B.E. & Tony Allcock M.B.E. performed the opening ceremony. It was the first time that the two stars, who have won 29 world bowls titles between them, have together opened a new bowling facility. The Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer of the bowlsworld.

Over 200 people attended the opening; guests included the Chief Executives of Bowls England and The English Indoor Bowling Association, the EIBA Men’s & Ladies Presidents, and the Dorset Indoor & Outdoor Presidents, a real who’s who of the bowls world. Andy Thomson, England captain & Graham Shadwell, England skip and Commonwealth team member then played a very high quality exhibition match to crown a memorable opening.

David Bryant said in his speech that if he was going to join a bowls club he would join The Dorset, he said the location and facilities were second to none! Praise indeed from “The Great Man”himself!
