Discussedthestore,websiteandwhattheproceduresareforFollett.Thebooksareinalphabeticalorderinthestoreratherthanseparatedbycourse.Also,ordersaredonemonthsinadvancetoassistwithstudentexperience.However,thebooksareoftennotinthestorebythestartofthesemester.Thegoalistooffereasiershoppingforstudents.ItsavesthestudentsinshoppingtimeandissyncedonlineandthroughtheappusingtheirZ-
number.Ittakesweekstodouble-checkeverythingbythestatedeadlineinNovember.WhenFolletttookoverfromB&N,theyoverorderedandhadtoreturnalot.About20%+ofbooksareusuallysold.October15thisthedeadlinefortheBookstoretoorderbooksforspring2020.Q&A/DiscussionQ–Theonlinesystemisnotsynced.So,howcanitbebettersynced?A–TheschoolsystemandthebookstoresystemaretobeFollettDiscoverandshouldbelinkedviaCanvas.Sometimesaprofessorisn’tlinkedtotheclass,sotherecanbesomeimperfections.Takesaboutadayforthesystemtorefresh.

- PresenttoaddressthefacultyonanumberofthingsincludinghowtoworkwithBrowardCollegeatDavie.Thetwoinstitutionsarelookingtoworktogethermore.Theremayevenbeanopportunityforstudentstoworkwiththesameadvisorsfor4years.(2yearsatBC/2yearsatFAU.)
- SCMSmaymovetoFortLauderdalefromDavie.However,universitybudgetsarenothealthynationwide.Self-sustainingprogramsareimportant.So,aftertaxesabout60%+stayswithadepartment.
- Allocatingwaiverstogradstudentsandgradassistants.It’snotaperfectsystemandislookingtoimprovetheprocess.
- ThereisalsomisclassificationofGA,GTA,GRAregardingfunding.Itmaytakeabout2-3yearstofix.
- FacultySenateisunfortunatelylesspopulatedthanitshouldbe.Onlyabout50+people.However,Arts&Lettersisusuallythereoften.About20%+ofFAUadministratorsattend.
Q&A/DiscussionQ–Aretheremorespecificstothe“mess”GTA’sareawardedorfacilitated?A–Whatisn’tworkingisthatGA’sarefundedfromotheraccountsandnotnecessarilytheirown,forexample,thosethatworkinthehousing.Further,GRA’sshouldonlyreceivingresearchfundsbasedonthegrants.GTA’sshouldonlybeallocatedbasedonteachingneeds.Thisyearneedstobearesetandtransition.
Q–Lastyear,theP&TCommitteeandcandidatesthatwentupweretomeetwiththeProvost.However,thisdidn’thappen.Whynot?A–Therewereabout80facultymemberspromoted,andtomeetindividuallywithpeoplethataresuccessfulforP&Twouldbetoomuchto
handle.Tofollow-up,thesearemeetingstocongratulatecandidates,notproceduralmeetings.Q–Whatisgoingonwiththisyear’sbudget?TherearetheseaspirationstobecomeanR1institution,buttheseappeartobetalks,withnorealinvestment.Howcanallthesepartssynchronize?A–Anybudgetallocationshavenotbeenmade,yet.Thebiggestproblemisthebudget.Itwouldbeidealtoscrapthisbudgetprocessandstartnewprocedures.ThereareanumberoffrustrationswiththebudgetfromanumberofCollege’sandUnits.
Q–Howmanysabbaticalareavailable?A–TheissueisthatresearchsabbaticalsshouldbeawardedforaninstitutionaspiringtobecomeR1.TheCollegeshouldbeawardingsabbaticals.
Q–WhataboutthemovetoLauderdale?Whatisthefundingmodel?A–ThegoalistohavetheFortLauderdalecampusactive.AnymodelsforfundingmayneedtocomefromcreativemodelssetbytheCollegeandit’sUnitswithfacultyandresourcesinFortLauderdale.TherecentTitleVgrantwasnotfunded.TheCollegerecentlysubmittedanewexternalgrant($500K)foradditionalfundingandinfrastructureforthepotentialmove.
Q–Whatisthefundingmodelforhealthinsuranceforgraduateassistants?A–Itwillcostabout1.8millionforthestudentstoget75%ofcoverage.HopefullybyJanuary2020therewillbeadefiniteanswerontheinsurancepolicyforthesestudents.

- TherehasbeenaLegislativeBudgetRequestwherethefundingfortheFortLauderdalemoveandrenovationsmaycomefrom.Therehasbeena$500000requestandGRstudentsupport.Theproposalisfacultydriven.
- TheuniversityislookingtoourCollegeforR1withinourPhDprograms.- TheSchoolofArchitecturefromtheCollegeofDesignandSocialInquiry
islookingtomovetotheCollegeofArtsandLetters.(Academicfluidity.)Thiswouldbeapartof,orduring,thepotentialmovetoFTL’scampusfromDavieofotherUnitsthatcurrentlyincludeSCMSFVNMfacultyandresources,andVAAHGDfacultyandresources.AnMOU(MemoofUnderstanding)wouldneedtobedraftedtotheDeanandtheCollege’sFacultyAssemblyfromARCH.Thiswouldneedtobereviewed,discussedandvotedupon.AnMOUmaybedraftedasearlyasthissemester.
