Injury Prevention Tips from Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital Level II Trauma Center

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, on average, 180 people go to the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries around the July 4th holiday.

Therefore, our recommendation is to leave the fireworks to the professionals.

Visit com.ohio.gov/documents/fire_fireworksredbook.pdf for Ohio’s up-to-date codes regarding fireworks.

Please keep in mind the following if you are around fireworks: • ALWAYS have adult supervision with

firework activities • ALWAYS back up to a safe distance after

lighting a firework • ALWAYS have a bucket of water or garden

hose nearby to douse fireworks• NEVER point or throw a firework at

another person• NEVER look down into a firework to

check why it has not ignited• NEVER carry fireworks in your pocket• NEVER shoot fireworks from metal or

glass containers

• NEVER try to re-light a firework

See Fairview’s Trauma Center event for teens and driving on page 7.
