GERMAN VILLAGE SOCIETY

2015 FINANCIALSThe Society’s financial position at the end of 2015 remained strong. Unrestricted cash was $208,000, which included a “rainy day fund” equal to 3 months of operating expenses. The board considers this fund necessary in that a significant portion of the Society’s revenues are dependent on events that can be impacted by weather (Haus und Garten Tour, Art Crawl and Monster Bash). The balance in Restricted Funds at year end was $777,000 and was restricted by the Board for various initiatives/projects such as plantings in Schiller Park, Historic Preservation (including signage), sidewalks, German Village Business Community, Meeting Haus Maintenance, etc. By restricting the use of these funds for these specific purposes, the Board is helping to ensure that funds are available for these important purposes and that they do not get depleted by day-to-day operating costs of the Society.

Revenues and Expenses in 2015 were in line, and in fact, somewhat ahead, of budget for the year. Once again, the Society’s donor base provided close to $100,000 of inkind services and thousands of volunteer hours, demonstrating strong support of the neighborhood and the initiatives of the Society. Individual lines of income and expense were comparable to the prior year and again, in line with the budget. As a side note, year to date 2016 is looking very strong.

The Finance Committee, the Board and the Executive Director closely monitor the Society’s finances on a monthly basis to make prudent financial decisions regarding important issues facing the neighborhood and to effectively plan for the future. With many mission-important initiatives in progress, the board continues to focus on maintaining fiscal responsibility.
