Headline Speakers Will Deliver Business Lessons and Entertainment David Friedman, CEO, High Performing Culture, LLC, will present “The Practical and Sustainable Way to Build a High Performing Culture.” World-class organizations long have recognized the powerful influence their cultures have on the performance of their people, and by extension, the performance of their companies. While most organizations allow their cultures to evolve naturally, top- performers don’t leave this to chance. This program will explore how these successful companies create and drive their culture. Friedman is the former president of RSI, an award-winning employee benefits brokerage and consulting firm in the Philadelphia area. Under his guidance, RSI grew to become one of the largest and most successful independently-owned agencies in the country. In addition to winning awards for leadership and customer service, RSI was named one of the “Best Places to Work” in the region seven times, and was four times named one of the “Fastest Growing Companies.” Friedman is a graduate of the College of William & Mary with a B.A. in philosophy. He began his career in 1983, starting RSI with his father in the basement of their New Jersey home. He went on to earn five advanced professional designations in insurance, employee benefits and financial planning, before shifting his primary focus to leadership and organizational development. With his leadership, RSI was a pioneer in Open Book Management, Lean Process Implementation, The Collaborative Way and the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Program. As 2017 draws to a close andmy term as PEMA president windsdown it is an appropriate time toreflect The holiday season inspiresjoy and gratitude and I want toacknowledge those who contributedto PEMArsquos success during my yearas president Our committeemembers readily give their time andtalent to develop programs andservices that enhance PEMArsquos valueTo those individuals I extend mythanks for a job well done

PEMArsquos Marketing Committeechaired by Tom Bowen (vice presidentof sales and marketing SWECO)has spent much of the year identifyingnew ways to promote PEMA productsand services At press time productionof a membership promotional video isunderway Two versions will beproduced ndash one that reminds currentmembers about the array of PEMAservices and one that promotes PEMAto prospective members This projectrepresents a significant undertakingand through the committeersquosdedication the finish line is in sight

PEMA is at a record high with73 member companies This year theMembership Committee chaired byRod Henricks (director of salesBunting Magnetics Company)focused not only on recruiting butalso on engaging inactive membersSeveral member companies whichpreviously had not participated in ameeting or which register infrequentlywere represented at PEMArsquos recentFall Meeting as a result of theoutreach campaign

Among our membership PEMAis known for its strong programs and2017 was no exception The ProgramCommittee chaired by Bill Werra(vice president of corporatedevelopment Sentry EquipmentCorp) upgraded the Fall Meeting toinclude an optional add-on sessionThis offering was well received andaccomplished the goal of attractingattendance from additional layerswithin our companies I look forwardto the next extracurricular sessionwhich will be tied to PEMArsquos 2018Fall Meeting

The Statistics Committeechaired by Jason McDaniel (presidentand COO The French Oil MillMachinery Co Inc) was presented adifficult challenge this year ndash toaddress the declining quarterlystatistics program enrollment Thecommittee embraced the assignmentand is working to re-gain participationby companies that opted out of thestatistics program as well as attractingnew members to enroll Thecommitteersquos effort will continue in2018

This year PEMA formed an AdHoc Show Committee led by DougSchieber (president and CEO of CarrierVibrating Equipment and PEMArsquosimmediate past president) to negotiateenhanced Powder amp Bulk Solids Showentitlements for PEMA and itsmembers While not yet signed it isanticipated that the revised PEMA-UBM show sponsorship agreementwill be executed in coming days

It has been an honor to serve asPEMArsquos 2017 president and to workwith such a talented and engagedExecutive Committee and Board ofDirectors

I want to recognize the ASMIteam for its management excellencesince 1985 In particular I recognizeour executive director Sue Denstonwho oversees all aspects of ASMIrsquosservices delivery Our meetingsmanager Michelle Savoie is a valuablepresence at our meetings and thenewest member of the out-front teamASMIrsquos president Beth Armstrong istransitioning to the role of PEMArsquosassociate executive director beginningin 2018 I would be remiss if I did notacknowledge the behind-the-sceneswork performed by additional ASMIstaff These include ASMI owner HarryBuzzerd who served as PEMArsquosexecutive director for 20 years (1985-2005) and who still provides oversightand fulfills occasional specialassignments along with other staff inthe areas of finance membershiptrade shows meeting registrationssurvey compilations and com-munications Kudos to the entireASMI team for keeping PEMA movingon its forward path

Thank you for allowing me toserve as PEMArsquos 2017 president Itrsquosbeen a privilege I look forward toseeing you at PEMArsquos 2018 AnnualMeeting and many future associationmeetings and wish you happyholidays and much success in thenew year

Currently Theismann works forthe NFL Network as the co-host forthe networkrsquos weekly show PlaybookPreviously he spent the last decadesworking for ESPN on their NFLbroadcast

Theismann graduated in 1971from the University of Notre Damewhere he received All-Americanhonors and led the Fighting Irish toconsecutive Cotton Bowls He wasrunner-up to Jim Plunkett in theHeisman Trophy balloting In 2003Theismann was inducted into theCollege Football Hall of Fame A 12-year NFL veteran Theismann playedin 163 consecutive games from 1974-1985 and holds Redskinsrsquo records forpassing yardage (25206)completions (2044) and attempts(3602) A two-time Pro Bowl selectionand Pro Bowl MVP Theismann led

National and International NewsMAPI Releases Manufacturing Outlook Forecast

The Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI) Foundation in late November released its fourth quarter forecast for 2017 The Moderate Manufacturing Outlook Amidst an Improving Global Picture report indicates that durable and continuing global economic recovery is propelling a modest rebound in US manufacturing growth after years of virtual stagnation Looking at both optimistic and pessimistic scenarios MAPI projects a range of between 12 and 18 percent for US manufacturing growth through 2021

NAM Survey on Tax Reform and Manufacturersrsquo Optimism Released

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) on Dec 11 released the results of the Manufacturersrsquo Outlook Survey for the fourth quarter of 2017 showing manufacturersrsquo optimism has risen to unprecedented heights amid the legislative progress made on tax reform With 946 percent of respondents saying they are positive about their own companyrsquos outlook this quarterrsquos optimism level is the highest in the surveyrsquos 20-year history

The Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI) Foundation in late November released its fourth quarter forecast for 2017 The Moderate Manufacturing Outlook Amidst an Improving Global Picture report indicates that durable and continuing global economic recovery is propelling a modest rebound in US manufacturing growth after years of virtual stagnation Looking at both optimistic and pessimistic scenarios MAPI projects a range of between 12 and 18 percent for US manufacturing growth through 2021

NAM Survey on Tax Reform and Manufacturersrsquo Optimism Released

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) on Dec 11 released the results of the Manufacturersrsquo Outlook Survey for the fourth quarter of 2017 showing manufacturersrsquo optimism has risen to unprecedented heights amid the legislative progress made on tax reform With 946 percent of respondents saying they are positive about their own companyrsquos outlook this quarterrsquos optimism level is the highest in the surveyrsquos 20-year history

The Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI) Foundation in late November released its fourth quarter forecast for 2017 The Moderate Manufacturing Outlook Amidst an Improving Global Picture report indicates that durable and continuing global economic recovery is propelling a modest rebound in US manufacturing growth after years of virtual stagnation Looking at both optimistic and pessimistic scenarios MAPI projects a range of between 12 and 18 percent for US manufacturing growth through 2021

NAM Survey on Tax Reform and Manufacturersrsquo Optimism Released

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) on Dec 11 released the results of the Manufacturersrsquo Outlook Survey for the fourth quarter of 2017 showing manufacturersrsquo optimism has risen to unprecedented heights amid the legislative progress made on tax reform With 946 percent of respondents saying they are positive about their own companyrsquos outlook this quarterrsquos optimism level is the highest in the surveyrsquos 20-year history
