We, the jubilant Bosco girls and boys,
With grateful hearts we sing His praise,
To God, in thanks our voice we raise,
Resounding in the Navi Mumbai skies.
Ch. Come let us sing in jubilee, to our
Don Bosco school all hail
As we journey over land and sea
Pride and love, dignity will prevail.
God’s loving hands have raised this edifice
Where every day we learn and play
To live our life in virtue’s way
Don Bosco our guiding light will ever stay
From sapling to tree of knowledge evergreen,
Our motto through life be ever seen,
Living here as a loving family with
Heads held high in truth and without fear.

PLEDGEIndia is my country
All Indians are my brothers and sisters
I love my country,
And I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.
I shall always strive to be worthy of it.
I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders,
respect and treat everyone with courtesy.
To my country and my people
I pledge my devotion.
In their well being and prosperity alone
Lies my happiness.
OUR LORD’S PRAYEROur Father, who art in heaven
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy Kingdom come;
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

ASSEMBLY SONGS
1. Walk WITh ME, o MY loRdWalk with me, O my Lord,Through the darkest night and brightest day;Be at my side, O Lord,Hold my hand and guide me on my way.
Sometimes the road seems long, my energy is spent,
Then, Lord, I think of You and I am given strength.
Stones often bar my path and there are times I fall,
But You are always there to help me when I fall.
2. hERE WE aREHere we are all together as we sing our song joyfully;
Here we are joined together, as we pray we’ll always be.
Join we now as friends
And celebrate the unity we share, all as one.
Keep the fire burning, kindle it with care.
And we’ll all join in and sing.
Let us make the world an Alleluia,
Let us make the world a better place.
Keep a smile handy, lend a helping hand
And we’ll all join in and sing.
3. God STIll loVES ThE WoRldEvery tiny star that twinkles in the night sky,
Every drop of morning dew. Every spark of fire
blazing in the furnace, every captivating view.
Every rainbow in the sky, every pretty butterfly,
Tells the fascinating news to those who dare to hope.
And the message is :
God still loves the world!God still, still loves the world.

So throw your life into His hands,Day by day discern His plans:God is passionately busy loving you and me.
Every ocean wave that breaks upon the sea-shore,
Every stalk of golden wheat.
Every silver stream that gushes down the mountain,
Every drop of honey sweet.
Every eagle flying high,
Every worm that wriggles by, tells……
4. coUnT YoUR blESSInGSWhen upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
Count your blessings; name them one by one.Count your blessings; see what God has done.Count your blessings; name them one by one.And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings; every doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
5. all haIl To YoU don boScoAll hail to you, Don Bosco !You were so young in soul.Come back again and help us.Rejuvenate our world.

No peace, no joy, no comfort, no light.
Don Bosco, come and lead the way.
See how feverishly we struggle
For the cause of truth and right;
See how much we are committed
To give the world a new lease of life.
Don Bosco, come and lead the way.
Yes, you know how much it costs us
As we work in harmony,
For the coming of a new day
Where every one is truly free.
Don Bosco, come and lead the way.
6. RaISE YoUR VoIcESRaise your voices and sing the praises
Of the Father of all youth.
How he loved them,

You revealed to many youth the tenderness of Jesus Christ,
and through your goodness they believed that
God is faithful in His love.
You created leaders who were strong in faith and wisdom,
and you send them off to distant lands to
spread the Gospel of His joy.
You endure rejection when you offered to the poor, abandoned youth
a festive oratory, a space where they could learn to pray.
You began a family that networked far and wide to make
your dream for education reach young people
right across the world.
9. lonG lIVE don boScoLong ago God send His Spirit; Love and courage he infused
In the few His Son had chosen; sent them out to spread Good News.
Then again in eighteen fifteen, in a shed a boy was born;
Destined to be liberator of the world’s
forgotten young.
We thank you God Almighty for your very special love,
In giving us Don Bosco, a blessing from above;
A love that reaches out to touch the lonely and the poor;
The once-abandoned youngsters are desolate no more.
Long live, Long liveLong live Don Bosco,Our Father and our Friend.Long live, Long liveLong live Don Bosco,Your blessing on us send.We thank You, God of happiness, for giving us saint.
His smiling face and friendly hand have helped us to sustain
That rich and precious heritage: the joy of sanctity.
To sing an alleluia despite monotony.

10. a lITTlE VIllaGE JUGGlERNow there was once a little village juggler
Who thought of plans his heart could not contain.
The many troubles encountered on his journey
With faith and hope he calmly overcame.
One day he dreamed he’d be a loving shepherd
Transforming wolves into submissive sheep.
Across the world, to youth of many cultures
He’s still a Father and Friend to those who seek.
Father John Bosco, Friend of all young people.You are our Leader sent from above.Your smile reminds us that happiness consists in“Doing our duty, cheerfully with love.”
Today our world is still in need of people
Who spend their lives for truth and honesty;
Who give themselves in service to their neighbour;
Who dare to be the change they want to see.
Are we the ones to follow in their footsteps?
Will we allow our talents to unfurl?
Is not our duty far deeper than good fortune?
Are we resolved to build a better world?

A WORD TO PARENTS
“EdUcaTIon” ThE don boSco WaYYour children are not your children,
They are the sons and daughters of life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but, not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love, but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies, but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
Which you cannot visit – not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you,
For life goes not backward not tarries with yesterday
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth…
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness…
- Khalil Gibran
Education is a continuous process – a blend of factors and influences that form character and personality. Two institutions however, play a prominent role and have formal educational responsibilities before the law and society – the family and the school. Each of these institutions cannot operate on their own… Communication and co-operation between them is therefore essential.
Parents have always been and always will be the first educators of a child. They have the right and the duty to lay the intellectual and emotional bases for their children’s lives and to help develop their system of values and attitudes. Children learn best from those they love. Parents, you are your child’s first and most influential teacher!An Educational system / school must aim towards training young people to be good citizens and sound professionals, providing them with the basics for a life long learning and personal development.

We at Don Bosco believe in …Education of the 3 H’s:

• Education of the Hands
aS YoUR chIld’S TEachERS aT hoME, PaREnTS can: • Schedule a daily homework time. Encourage your child’s efforts and be
available for questions. Spend time discussing.
• Read together. Taking the time to read is the most successful way to encourage kids to read and is critical to a child’s education.
• Use TV wisely. Establish a TV viewing budget and help your child choose programmes for viewing. Select programmes to watch together and discuss.
• Offer praise and encouragement. Encourage your child to put in time and effort to complete assignments, to work hard. Encourage them to persevere. Cultivate a warm and supporting atmosphere while also setting and enforcing standards for schoolwork.
• Talk to their children. Know their friends and whereabouts. Support them in their school and extra-curricular activities. Keep them involved in family activities. Stress their importance as role models to younger siblings.
• Communicate values openly with your children. By talking about and living values like honesty, self – reliance and responsibility parents are helping their children make good decisions.
• Cultivate healthy eating habits, junk food like chips, pastries and aerated drinks should not be a regular feature in snack boxes. Diet plays a major role in the all-round development of a child.
• Ensure healthy sleeping habits. Encourage your child to sleep at a set time – EVERYDAY. Children need a minimum of 8 hours of sleep. Quite a number of children cannot enjoy their learning in school, as they are too sleepy.

ASSESSMENT SYSTEM Educating young children is indeed a challenge in present societies. The new generation needs to be provided with the awareness, abilities and mental strength to take up responsibilities in real world situations. The evaluation systems and attitudes of young children have to be guided and defined. Children have many developmental needs; some have learning disabilities, others have emotional and behavioural problems that have to be identified and addressed. Above all the real challenge lies in designing meaningful curriculum that helps to develop and sustain healthy, productive and ethical minds. Towards this need, Don Bosco Senior Secondary School follows a holistic approach to educating children. The environment is essentially child centered and focuses on developing mutual trust and understanding between the teacher and the student.
Our educational goals are oriented towards confidence building, developing intellectual curiosity with scope for exploration and hands on learning as well as fostering a spirit of living in harmony. As per the decision of the CBSE, the examination from academic year 2017 – 18 and onwards would be conducted as per the remodeled assessment structure explained below.

FAQ’S ON THE EVALUATION SYSTEM
Q1. What if my child is absent for a Worksheet?Ans. The child is assessed on various parameters and not only performance in
Worksheets. This is mainly to enable the child to focus on one subject per day. Please note that worksheets are for practice only. In case of absenteeism the child will be handed over the practice worksheets on the day he / she comes to school.
Q2. Why does my child have two worksheets in a day sometimes?Ans. This may happen when a worksheet could not be held on the scheduled day
due to holidays / unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, it will be held during the next or previous class / day.
Q3. Why does my child have to make charts / projects for the school?Ans. At Don Bosco, value based topics are allotted house-wise for each fortnight.
This enables the educators to focus on these values and inspire our children to grow as better human beings. To spread greater awareness, teachers plan some activities for their students. Class notice boards are also used to highlight the themes. Children must take pride in wholeheartedly participating and contributing to the class activities. While it is expected that children work on these charts / projects, the support and guidance of parents always encourages the child to present quality work. Quality and content of the charts are also assessed by the subject teacher as well as for value education.
Q6. When can my child expect the corrected worksheets / projects etc?Ans. The corrected worksheets will be returned not later than 7 working days from
the date of the specific evaluation.
Q7. When will my child’s notebook / workbook be corrected by the teacher?Ans. Teachers are expected to correct the notebooks/workbooks as soon as each
topic / exercise is completed. All corrected books will also be returned to the students before every weekend and before any evaluation. Students are expected to submit completed work. In case of absence from school, it’s the student’s / parent’s responsibility to ensure that the classwork / homework is collected from fellow students/teacher and the student is made to complete the work before correction. Marks will be deducted for incomplete work.

DON BOSCO SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL
RESPonSIblE bEhaVIoUR Plan FoR STUdEnTS baSEd on ThE codE oF School bEhaVIoUR1. PurPoseDon Bosco Senior Secondary School is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for students and staff, where students have opportunities to engage in quality learning experiences and acquire values supportive of their lifelong well-being. This Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students is designed to facilitate high standards of behaviour so that the learning and teaching in our school can be effective and students can participate positively within our school community.
2. consulTaTion and daTa reviewDon Bosco Senior Secondary School developed this plan in collaboration with our school community. Broad consultation with parents, staff and students was undertaken through various meetings held during the years 2009 – 2012 and even before that.
3. learning and behaviour sTaTemenTDon Bosco Senior Secondary School considers behavior management to be an opportunity for valuable social learning as well as means of maximizing the success of academic education programs. Our Responsible Behaviour Plan outlines our system for facilitating positive behaviour, preventing behavioural problems and responding to unacceptable behaviour. Through our school plan, expectations for student behaviour are explained to everyone. Thus, assisting Don Bosco Senior Secondary School to create and maintain a positive and productive learning and teaching environment, where ALL school community have clear and consistent expectations and understandings of their role in the educational process. Our school community has identified the following school rules to teach and promote our high standards of responsible behaviour :
• Be safe
• Be responsible
• Be respectful
Our school rules have been agreed upon and endorsed by all staff members and PTA. They are aligned with the values, principles and expected standards outlined in Don Bosco’s Preventive System of Education.
57
DON BOSCO SeNiOr SeCONDary SChOOl School handbook2 0 2 0 – 2 0 2 1
4. Processes for faciliTaTing sTandards of PosiTive behaviour and resPonding To unaccePTable behavior – universal behaviour suPPorTThe first step in facilitating standards of positive behavior is communicating those standards to all students. At Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, we emphasize the importance of directly teaching students the behaviour we want them to demonstrate at school. Communicating behavioural expectations is a form of Universal Behaviour Support – a strategy directed towards all students, designed to prevent behavioural problems. It also provides a framework for responding to unacceptable behaviour.
A set of behavioural expectations in specific settings has been attached to each of our three school rules. The School Wide Expectations Teaching Matrix below outlines our agreed rules and specific behavioural expectations in all school settings. These expectations are communicated to students via a number of strategies, including:
• Behaviour lessons conducted by classroom teachers.
• Reinforcement of learning through behavior lessons during School Assemblies and active supervision by staff during classroom and non – classroom activities.
5. reinforcing exPecTed school behaviourAt Don Bosco Senior Secondary School communication of our key messages about behaviour is backed up through reinforcement, which provides students with feedback for engaging in expected school behaviour. A formal recognition and monitoring system has been developed. This reinforcement system is designed to increase the quantity and quality of positive interactions between students and staff. All staff members are trained to give consistent and appropriate acknowledgement and rewards
6. re – direcTing low – level and infrequenT behavioural ProblemWhen a student exhibits low – level and infrequent behavioural problem, the first response of school staff members is to remind the student of expected school behaviour, then ask them to change their behaviour so that it aligns with our school’s expectations. Our preferred way of re – directing low – level behavioural problem is to ask them to think of how they might be able to act more safely, more respectfully or more responsibly. This encourages students to reflect on their own behaviour, evaluate it against expected school behaviour, and plan how their behaviour could be modified so as to align with the expectations of our school community.

7. consequences for unaccePTable behaviourDon Bosco Senior Secondary School makes systematic efforts to prevent behavioural problems by teaching and reinforcing expected behaviour on an ongoing basis. When unacceptable behaviour occurs, students experience predictable consequences. Our school seeks to ensure that responses to unacceptable behaviour are consistent and proportionate to the nature of the behaviour. The school records all minor and major behavioural problems.

THE RATIONALE & OBJECTIVES: The parents at home and the teachers at school / senior secondary look after the development of the child in different through some what overlapping fields. It is in the interest of the child’s personality that this development should be harmonious. Mutual understanding between parents and teachers is plainly imperative. Besides, parents often have the feelings that school / senior secondary function in a manner oblivious of the parents’ view-point. This at times may give rise to some misunderstanding. On the other hand Teachers often have feelings that parents should be more co-operative and if the suggestions of the teachers as to the way a child should be dealt with at home, were considered and given effect to, the work of the teacher in School / Senior Secondary would be considerably facilitated. An Association which provides contact between parents and teachers is thus a self-evident necessity. The Association will therefore endeavor:
