Dolphin nutrition
Digestive,respiratory,
circulatory &urinary systems
Digestive System
Carnivorous.Swallows food whole, don’t chew their food. 3 chambered stomach, multiple compartments like cows or horses.
Respiration
Need air to survive, have to rise to the surface frequently to breathe. Lungs similar to other mammals, however, dolphin lungs contain a lot more air cells. Dolphins breathe through the blowhole, on the top on its head. Communicate with whistle-like sounds, produced by vibrating connective tissue, similar to vocal cords. The clicking sounds act as a sonar.
Circulatory Warm blooded, closed circulatory system containing arteries, vein's, blood vessels, and capillaries.Higher metabolic rate, they need to keep warm. Beats range from 70 – 100 per minute, while as they are underwater they range from 30 – 40 beats a minute.Thermoregulation, 96.8°–98.6°F (36°-37°C).
Urinary system
Consists of paired kidneys, ureters, a urinary bladder, and urethra, like other mammals. Well-adapted kidneys, reticulated.Excrete waste every 15 minutes.Way to get rid of the salts (they can drink fresh water).
