The NGI Program is addressing the increase in identification requests in the form of biometric submissions. It is also addressing the rapidly expanding database of biometric information and new biometric identifiers necessary to keep pace with evolving tribal, local, state, federal, international and intelligence requirements.

LEO provides a vehicle via the Internet for antiterrorism, intelligence, law enforcement, criminal justice, and public safety communities nationwide to exchange Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU)/Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) data, to access 21 different services and databases, to support situational and crisis-related events, and to send and receive real-time secure alerts.
Future aims for LEO include connecting new providers and services to the community, increase and improve efficiency, and adopt more effective analytics and data transmission
