REFERENCE MATERIALS FOR EVALUATING FOREIGN STUDENT CREDENTIALS

A LIST OF RESOURCES IN THE LIBRARY OF THE ACADEMIC ADVISORY STAFF

OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL TRAINING, AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

WASHINGTON, D.C.

The Academic Advisory Staff (AAS) of the Office of Internation-al Training (OIT), Agency for International Development (AID). inWashington, D. C. analyzes and interprets the academic creden-tials of AID participants (foreign students) from cooperatingcountries in terms of the educational system of the U.S.

To carry on this service the AAS has developed an outstandinglibrary of reference materials for use by credential analysts, educators, and AID staff members. This library has had thecontinuing input of resource suggestions from AACRAO profes-sional credential analysts, 50 of whom during the past sevenyears have spent periods of two weeks each in the Office ana-lyzing AID participant dossiers and filling out the "CredentialAnalyst Worksheets" (CAW) which are used as guides in the place-ment and admission of the participants in U.S. universities andcolleges. No other foreign student admissions library in ourcountry has had such continuous professional advice in accumu-lating its resource materials.

This list, therefore, has been prepared so that the credentialanalysts assigned by AACRAO to work with Miss Hattie Jarmon inWashington may know in advance what reference materials will beavailable to them in the Office library. It also enables themto suggest additional resource materials which then can be addedto the library. The references are grouped in terms of their con-tent and usefulness on either a world-wide basis or by regions ofthe world. Within each region the countries are listed alphabet-ically, and the pertinent references follow each country.

This list was produced as one of the services of the AACRAO-AIDProject. Mr. Robert Hefling, Director of Graduate and Inter-national Student Admissions, University of Colorado, has been incharge of this project. Mrs. Esther Jurgens, also of the Univer-sity of Oolorado, prepared the material for publication.

ADDITIONAL COPIES ARE AVAILABLE FROM MISS HATTIE JARMON, ACA-DEMIC ADVISORY STAFF, OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL TRAINING, DEPART-MENT OF STATE, A.I.D., WASHINGTON, D. C. 20523.
