What is the GAISE Framework?

Read: pages 16-19: “Illustrations: I. Formulate Questions, II. Collect Data, III. Analyze Data and IV. Interpret Results”

Purpose: To reinforce each component of the framework and the different levels.

Focus Question:Considering the three levels discussed in this article, where would you place the majority of the lessons that are taught in your school?

Developed by the Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP) 4with support by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. 0314898.4

How Can I Use the GAISE Report?

As a quick reference for the components of the framework.

As a resource for explanations of each component in practice—and as a series of examples by which we can teach each component.

Developed by the Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership (MMP) 5with support by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. 0314898.5

Big Ideas

The GAISE report provides a framework for thinking about statistics instruction and pushing towards higher levels of statistical thinking in the classroom.

Different graphical representations of the same data set can clarify or obscure important aspects of the data, so care must be taken in choosing an appropriate representation.
