Abstract

This overall study is about the management concepts that are followed in an engineering industry and to gain practical knowledge in various functional departments. The main objective is to have a real time exposure in the organization and to study the culture and environment adopted by them; the day to day activities are monitored and matched to the management concepts that we studied theoretically.

In 1911 organization started its activities as road transport and one can with proud

say that Sri. T.V Sundaram Iyengar was the first person to run rural bus service.

This transport grows into a big network .In 1919 TVS started an automobile spare

parts and service unit in Madurai. This diversified the religious city into a variety

of trading and service activity center. In 1929 General Motors was able to

recognize the greatness of TVS group and appoint them as authorized agents. This

was a major breakthrough in the evolution of automobile industry. Mr.Sundaram

Iyengar’s trip to U.S needs special mention; in this trip he made practical studies

on agriculture activities and implemented them in hometown. This shows that he is

not a mere mechanical minded person but also lover of nature.

The year 1946 is a milestone in the transport service in South India. During this

period TVS merged transport companies and formed Southern Road Ways, which

transported not only people but also commercial articles through their parcel

service. Due credit will always come to great people. In the year 1960 the

greatness of TVS group reached all the important cities of India and through the

formation of Sundaram Finance, thus TVS became an all India organization.

The TVS Group is one of India's largest industrial conglomerates. TV Sundaram

Iyengar and Sons Limited, is the largest automobile distribution company in India

Vertical and has set up state-of-Art warehouses across the country for this purpose.

The Logistics Business Unit has created a special name for their excellence in the

Inbound Logistics. It has now extended providing the supply chain solutions across

the globe for the Indian Auto Component manufacturers which include a wide

array of value added services. Currently the Logistics Business Unit is the lead

logistics provider for almost all the leading Automobile Companies in India.

of spare parts in India, handling more than 70 suppliers and 25000 part lines.

TVS & Sons has grown to become a leading logistics solution provider and has

setup state-of-the-art warehouses across the country. The logistics division has tied

up with leading consultants across the globe and provides logistics support to

almost all the leading automobile manufacturers in India. TVS & Sons has recently

Audit Committee

The primary objective of the Audit Committee is to monitor and provide effective supervision of the management's financial reporting process with a view to ensure accurate, timely and proper disclosure and transparency, integrity and quality of financial reporting.

Brief description of terms of reference:

The Audit Committee of the Company is entrusted with the responsibility to supervise the Company's internal control and financial reporting process and inter alia performs the following functions:

a. Over viewing the Company's financial reporting process and the disclosure of financial information.

b. Reviewing with the management quarterly and annual financial statements before submission to the board for approval with particular reference to the matters specified in the Listing Agreement.

Personnel manager is the head of personnel department. He performs both

Managerial and operative functions of management. His role can be summarized

as:

1) Personnel manager provides assistance to top management the top

management are the people who decide and frame the primary policies of

the concern. All kinds of policies related to personnel or workforce Can be

2) He advices the line manager as a staff specialist personnel manager acts

Personnel functions

The term personnel department refers to the function of the organisation that is

responsible for the management and motivation of people in the workplace.

Increasingly today the term Human Resource Management has come to replace

personnel - because personnel management is seen as an old fashioned way of

managing people, giving priority to organisational rather than individual

development needs.

Typically personnel work is concerned with:

1. The recruitment and selection of new employees, e.g. helping to prepare job

advertisements and job descriptions for new posts, and helping to organise the

interview process.

2. The induction of new employees where they are introduced to the company, and

aspects of the job they will be doing as well as essential requirements such as

health and safety training.

3. Training and development. Training focuses on the needs of the organisation

whereas development is more concerned with identifying and meeting the needs of

individual employees.

4. Organising the appraisal process to identify development needs of employees.

5. Representing the organisation as a go between on disciplinary issues e.g. when a

worker has continuously been late for work. Dismissing and making workers

redundant where necessary.

6. Managing payment systems, although this will probably be the responsibility of

a separate payroll section.

7. Taking responsibility for the motivation of employees by outlining motivational

work practices.

8. Organising the termination of work, and retirement of employees, as well as job

An integrated EHS Management System is instituted both at Hosur and Mysore units. Both the

sites have been certified under ISO 14001 for Environment Management System and

under OHSAS 18001 for Occupational Health Safety Management System. The Company

continues to excel in key environmental performance areas, achieving a 35% reduction in fresh

water consumption, 45% per unit reduction in land fill waste disposal and 33% reduction in

paint sludge generation. In line with the World Environment Day. 2008 theme

vision of building self-reliant rural communities. SST extended its coverage to 363 villages,

serving a population of 3.71 lakhs. Some of the significant achievements are :

TVS Motors is the third largest automobile manufacturer in India next to Hero

Moto Corp and Bajaj auto. TVS motors is belongs to TVS group which is $ 2.2

billion. It is the first company to produce indigenous moped and enter into 100 cc

two wheeler markets with collaboration of Suzuki. The 19 year old relation with

Suzuki was to engage in technology transfer and design suiting to Indian market.

In 2001, they had a strain in relationship in continuing the joint venture which led

to a separation.

Though TVS motors have the above said strength, it has to look in to the grey areas where it has to given keen importance. At present company has no variety or model in the premium  bike segment.As of now Two-wheeler segment is one of the most growing industries. It has to expand its operational wings to international market by export of bikes to the untapped international markets.
