Usually it’s easier for us to come up with the physical descriptions of a character. The author often tells us exactly what he or she looks like. It can be harder to come up with the personality or character traits of the character. To figure those out we really need to think about what the character says and does. You shared some character traits for characters in books you are reading, can you think of some other, general, character traits?

Now try it on your own:

Now I want you to look in your SSR book and choose two of the characters. Make a T-chart for each character just like we did together and list 3-5 physical descriptions and 3-5 character personality traits for each of them. Then for each character choose one of the personality traits and write a sentence answering the question, “What does the character do that makes me think they have this character trait?”
