Chairman’s Message B y L e e F o x

What happened to summer? It seemed like spring was just here and I just got the cars ready to drive. Fortu-nately, there is still plenty of top down driving yet to do before the s**w flies.

In just a couple of weeks, on September 26, the 34th All British Car and Cycle Show will be here. The regis-trations have been coming in with nearly 130 cars pre-registered. MGs, and particularly rubber bumper MGBs have come on so strong that we may have to split a class or two to make it competitive. The other marques are well represented, too, and we have several classes with sponsored trophies to make the event even more fun. A large group of hard working volunteers have been busy planning all facets of this biggest event of the year. Are you one of them? If so, thank you very much for your help. If not, there is still time to lend a hand. Sign up at the club meeting on the 14th. Don’t forget the pre-show kickoff BBQ, sponsored by Adam Key at British Cars Restoration Services LLC, on Friday, September 25.At the August club meeting, we entertained nominations for the various club officers and will be looking for additional nominations at the September meeting. Voting and the changing of the guard will take place at the October meeting. I have

thoroughly enjoyed my terms as chairman and treasurer before that and would strongly encourage you to nominate yourself for one of the slots. I’ve met lots of new people and have made many new friends and you can, too. See the minutes elsewhere in this issue for the list of positions and who has been nominated so far.

With the changing season, another change has come my way. I sold my little yellow Midget recently. We had that car for 25 years and it was my introduction to the MG Club of St. Louis and all things Lucas. I’m not MG-less, however. I’m working on a 1974 RWA Midget at the moment getting it ready for paint and reassembly. New floors and some “interesting” welding have been completed and I’m redoing the brakes this week. I really like the Spridgets, but am getting the urge for something a little bigger. Maybe an MGA, MGB, TD or BGT will join the family soon. Let me know if you hear one is available.

I hope to see you at September club meeting and especially at the All British Car and Cycle Show. Great cars, fantastic people, food, sunshine and the smell of unburned hydrocarbons – what’s not to like.

Safety Fast! Lee

The car in question featured in last month’s “ Seen in the Wild” was a Daimler SP 250!

As fall has officially arrived in St. Louis, attention begins to switch to the winter projects and what are we doing to improve our cars. Personally, I have finally ordered new seat covers, seat foam, and head rests after delaying all summer. With the All British Car and Cycle Show imminent, I hope the goods arrive after the show, so I can take my time to work on the interior. If you are anticipating a long involved project, please take the time to document your every step with text and pictures so that we can share the results in upcoming newsletters. If you need help with anything, mention it at any meeting so that all of us can help with personal experience and guidance. After

all, who could not use the help?

Speaking of the show, final preparations are underway and there is plenty of time for anyone that wishes to help with the event. Contact anyone on the planning committee to pitch in on the many details that require a personal touch.

As I have stated in earlier newsletters, the gazette is all about you and your cars. We always need photos and your accounts of the many drives that occur. Unfortunately, I cannot attend all of them so I need you help in reporting the action and excitement of each event. Please keep the letters coming!

Happy Motoring and Safety Fast!

A WORD TO THE WISE by Byron Golfin

A leaky fuel system can cause our LBC’s, as the Brits say, “fail to proceed” Fuel lines generally run under the car and are subject to corrosion and mechanical damage. Chassis clips that secure the fuel line can corrode or break off allowing the fuel line to vibrate resulting in a crack. Various models have rubber-to-tubing connections that become brittle over time. Some say that ethanol in gasoline can do damage to fuel systems, especially vintage cars. My particular experience with ethanol gas has been its appetite for accelerator pump diaphragms allowing gas to drip onto a hot engine. Inspect your metal fuel lines, carburetors, rubber hose connections and clamps regularly. The fine example shown below is the result of failure of the rubber hose connection to the metal gas line just under the engine compartment.

Pre—Dawn Rally 8/9/2015

A few hardy souls arrived for the pre–dawn rally which provided chal-lenging roads throughout west St. Louis County and environs further west. The rally ended right as The Original Pancake House opened up and a hearty breakfast was had by all! Many thanks to Robert Hor-zmann for putting together a wonderful drive.

The car was originally From WY. In 1980 it was disassembled and packaged up and sat in dry storage for restoration. In 1996 it was brought from IA to IL(no idea how it got to IA) where it has sat waiting for restorationThe restoration never happened. The car has a clear WY title and TONs of parts, through all the moves the engine and drive train were lost except Transmissions. We are trying to find the right home for this car. Everything is super nice on this car, I think, chrome is nice no pits, this was some ones labor of love, but their time ran out.$1500 is the asking price, the car can no longer be stored inside and will surely not hold up well to the elements. I have tons more pictures.

THE MG CLUB OF ST. LOUIS

On the lighter side!

Fred Houser, longtime Des Peres resident, and Jane Bolliger, longtime Webster Groves and Kirkwood resident, were married July 18. Both now live at Aberdeen Heights in Kirkwood. The couple met while playing at the couple's bridge club on Wednesdays at Westborough Country Club. Both were previously married to other spouses for over 50 years.

Congratulations to Fred and Jane from the MG Club of St. Louis!!!
