Equality refers to identical treatment in
dealings, quantities or values.
Equity refers to fairness, or the equality of
outcomes, and involves changing aspects of
the system that have disadvantaged particular
groups.
As we look at the structures of our societythrough American Literature and examine the
choices and the consequences, we must not
dismiss this definition.

Treatment is Not Enough,´ Achieving the Dreamreports on the equity issues that two incoming
college freshmen face.
