“o get the A you ulfll theobjectives,” she said. “An A is whatit is. It is a combination o eortand results ulflling the objectives.”
Hank Davis, a proessor o busi-ness, said he thinks students get
evaluated on outcome, not input.“Tat is because you can’tobserve input,” he said. “You canonly observe output.”
Davis said it is an individual, not a collective perspective when itcomes to eort.
“Someone can say I studied orfve hours on this assignment so Ihave worked hard while the othercan say I worked 20 hours,” he said.
Davis said when it comes to grad-ing there are always dierent per-ceptions on how a proessor gradeshis students.
“One complaint I hear rom stu-dents are that grades are subjec-tive,” he said. “Really, the universi-ty is paying or my subjective exper-tise. Tat is dierent than saying itis biased.”
Davis said grading is biased whenstudents are graded on other thingsoutside o a course syllabus.
“I the grade in your class is grad-ed on something else not system-atically in the syllabus, then that is
biased,” he said.aylor Rakers, a senior econom-
ics major, said he thinks most pro-essors on this campus are air whenit comes to grading.
“Tey are a lot better than otheruniversities in my opinion,” he said.
Rakers said i students want thehighest grade they need to put ortheort but also make sure the proes-sor sees what they have learned.
“It will help when the proessorknows you know the material by participation,” he said.
Davis said he eels many peo-ple are not honest with themselves
when it comes to the grades they think they worked so hard or.
“It’s natural,” he said. “It is ahuman emotion. When we don’t
work enough, it is easier to blameothers.”
