Color Coded By Port ThreadTo simplify identification of genuine DMIC High Pressure Ball Valves in the stockroomand in the circuit, valves are factory coded according to the port thread.
Spindle-Glide� ConstructionThis DMIC innovation utilizes polyamide thrust bearings both inside the valve as well as between thestop washer and body to reduce wear & friction during valve actuation. With the genuine DMIC LockingHandle Kit option, an auxiliary bearing is also installed between the base and lever plates.
A factory application of synthetic lubricant* inside the valve during manufacturing, as well as within thesealed Spindle-Glide� system, ensures that the valve will be as smooth to operate years after it is set asit was when it was new, because you can never predict when there will be an emergency.
Stock Selection of Ball SealsDMIC‘s latest ball seal thermoplastic formulation reduces actuation torque, whileincreasing longevity of the ball seals. DMIC’s thermoplastic specification reduces frictionbetween the ball and the seals during actuation, reducing actuation torque and axial stress onthe stem seals. In conjunction with Spindle-Glide� construction, DMIC High Pressure BallValves offer one of the industry’s lowest actuation torques. DMIC’s “Super Low Friction”optional sealing further enhances performance under actuation.
Pressure Balancing OrificeDMIC refines the sealing principle of our original “floating ball” valve design by providing an orifice at the stemslot, which improves sealing while providing internal lubrication. In a “floating ball” design, as line pressureincreases at a closed valve, the ball is pressed against the far Ball Seal. DMIC’s innovative balancing orifice at the stemslot allows the line pressure to be applied from behind the far Ball Seal as well, resulting in improved sealing, especiallyat lower line pressures and vacuum.

Custom Mill Runs of SteelDMIC has invested in custom engineered steels for DMIC valves.
DMIC’s custom “mill runs” benefit from modern metallurgy to provide steel of additionalstrength, superior finish, and ultimately, quality, than lower cost general purpose steel.
Unrestricted Bore Designs (most models)Most 2-way DMIC Ball Valves are designed with an unrestricted “full” bore relative to the cross-sectional area of fluid lines connected to thevalve. Additionally, DMIC only uses a STRAIGHT bore passage in every valve model to aid laminar flow (some brands use a concave, hollowball). The result is that the Coefficient of Flow (Cv) and Pressure Drop (�P) of a DMIC Ball Valve very closely approximates a like lengthsection of fluid line. Except in fancy circuits, you can treat our valves as just the same length of pipe, due to the unrestricted bore.

O-Ring + Backup SealingDMIC is one of the few manufacturers to incorporate backup rings at the stem & connection*
seals, in addition to a premium brand O-Ring, in all steel Ball Valves.
The reason for deleting this very critical component is primarily cost - it takes twice the time toinstall two seals carefully. A DMIC craftsman fits each premium brand O-ring and backup byhand, while individually inspecting components for defects as the parts are matched. A factoryapplication of synthetic lubricant during parts matching eliminates damage to stem seals, andkeeps the valve internally lubricated while it awaits initial service.NOTE (*): Connection backups now standard on valves 1¼" and larger

interchangeable, compatible connection suffixesDMIC’s updated ordering codes allow the Buyer to easily specify any Ball Valve that is possible to manufacture. Ingeneral, each DMIC part number is made up of PRODUCT SERIES, SIZE, CONNECTION, and a four position materialCONSTRUCTION CODE.

Product Series - Page 7The entire DMIC product line is encoded to sort by product series, in increasing order of size, on your computer...no more arcanepart number searches. Each series code is a mnemonic of the item it represents, such as ‘BVH’ for Ball Valve High Pressure.
Four-Digit Size Code - Page 8The exclusive four-digit size code, in thousandths of an inch, provides at a glance, an easy “double-check” of correct port sizing andconnection thread on your BOM or P/O. For valves made to imperial units, the size code is delimited by a dash (eg. BVAH-1500N-1113).
Connection Suffix (New for ‘01) - Page 9All DMIC Ball Valves now utilize a Connection Suffix, including Flanged & Welded models. See pages 7-13 for more info.
Construction & Accessory Codes - Page 10-13The Buyer can specify valve options by changing the standard “-1111" suffix code. For standard ball valves, no Construction Codeis required. We have greatly simplified the ordering process for DMIC Ball Valves with factory installed accessories.

DMIC customers enjoy unparalleled availability of specialized andcustom valves, in addition to stock offerings. We devised the "2+2code" system to allow Buyers to uniformly specify unlikeconnections on otherwise standard valves.
Suppose you require a BV3D-1000 3-way diverter with one C.61Split Flange connection for rigid mounting, one C.61 4-BoltCompanion port, and an ISO6149 Threaded port. Specifying thisvalve could become a nightmare (let alone the delivery waiting timefrom overseas), but not for DMIC customers. Please follow theexample at right to see how this valve is requested, and how yourquotation and production will proceed using the 2+2 codes and SANsystem. To formulate a "2+2" code, take the FIRST TWO digits ofthe SIZE and append the CONNECTION CODE (next page).

Should I order valves and accessories "À LaCarte" or use the Accessory Codes on p.12 ?
DMIC recommends that you use the Accessory Codes tospecify valves with options such as Locking Handles,Custom Mountings, and Actuation. By doing so, yourvalve leaves our Factory in exactly the desiredconfiguration.
Distributors may still order accessories separately.Because it is possible for customers to inadvertentlyspecify valves and accessories that are either mutuallyexclusive or will not fit together without factory valvepreparation, we suggest you use Accessory Codes.
"We hate it when you guyschange part numbers !"
Rest assured that "old" part numbers will be convertible tonew ones for many years, and the new nomenclatureallows us to introduce future products without having torename accessories. This change has been ongoing in ourFactory since 1997 and has helped improve our ratio ofshipment from stock.
"I ordered a 'BVAL' accessory separately,but the invoice says the accessory

Completely customvalves receive a
DMIC “SAN” numberDMIC now allows most conceivablevalve & accessory combinations to becalled out directly by the Buyer, usingConstruction and Accessory codes.
However, valves that are completelyspecial, or cannot be defined withConstruction & Accessory codes, stillreceive a DMIC Engineering “SAN”(Special Assembly Number).
When you accept DMIC’s quotation andorder the product, a “SAN” (SpecialAssembly Number) is assigned for eachoptioned valve. This part number is usedto flow your order through productionand precisely document it for eventualservice parts.
BVAL&12345SAN numbers are formatted as in theexample above, where the valve seriesis suffixed with a unique serializednumber, eg “12345”.

'BV3D' is manufactured in threaded styles only but can be factory equippedwith 'HSSW' System (HP) adapters to achieve Split & 4-Bolt Flange, SocketWeld, ANSI Class/DIN Flange, and Hose Barb Connection(s) on one ormore ports. We provide dimensions for common 3-like port valves in theDependent Dimension tables, but this product is highly suited to customizationand we invite you to call your Distributor or DMIC for application assistance.
About ‘BV3D’/‘BV3DZ’DMIC's ‘BV3D’ replaces "converted 2-way" valveswith welded 3rd ports, eliminating a source ofleakage and providing flexible connection options.
Derived from the field proven DMIC 'BVH' series,this full bore diverter is rated to 3000 PSI and isfully compatible with DMIC options andaccessories. The ‘BV3DZ’ model utilizes DMIC’sinnovative internal design for near zero internalleakage and unrestricted port pressurization.
Q: Can I use aDiverter Valveor do I need aTrue Multi-WayValve ?”
The ‘BV3DZ’ version of ourdiverter valve can take the place ofa true multiway valve in manycircuits.
Specifically, the question youmust ask your application is: “Ispressure ever applied at port 2 or3 when valve is blocked ?”.
If YES, you must use a “real”3-way valve, or the ‘BV3DZ’model. If NO, a Diverter such as‘BV3D’ or ‘BV3L’ is acceptable.

'BV3H'/'BV4H' is manufactured in threaded and flanged styles. For expedientdelivery DMIC keeps shelf stock in threaded styles only. Low volumeflanged orders are factory equipped with 'HSSW' System adapters to achievefast Split & 4-Bolt Flange, Socket Weld, and ANSI/DIN FlangeConnection(s) on one or more ports. OEM volume orders are furnished withdedicated flange ports. We provide OEM version dimensions for common3-like port valves in the Dependent Dimension tables, but this product is highlysuited to customization and we invite you to call for application assistance.
T-Bore Ball (Code C)Standard on 4-way 'BV4H' with 90°action. This is the classic 4-way layoutwith BLOCKED CENTER.Can also be ordered with 180° action(ball code D). Please see the ISOcircuit schematic for application info.
L-Bore Ball (Code A)Standard on 3-Way 'BV3H'. On a 3-wayvalve with 90° action, operates as adiverter valve with BLOCKED CENTER.Can also be ordered in a specialty 4-wayvalve, with 180° action to perform inyour high pressure, high volume specialapplication. Call Factory for specials.

This discussion of DMIC’s Floating Balanced Ball Valve Design operation is primarilyapplicable to DMIC’s High Pressure Ball Valves, although many aspects of operation areshared among the “trunnion ball” multiway designs and the lower pressure brass valves.
FULLY OPEN POSITION (Figure 1)When a DMIC ball valve is fully open, the internal parts are aligned within the steel valve body asillustrated in Figure 1. The handle is parallel to the axis of fluid flow (factory default), and the ballopenings are concentric with the inner holes of the ball seals. A cam path cut into the stopwasherpermits handle travel only through 90° of arc, which is why a 2-way ball valve is considered a “quarter-turn” valve. DMICprovides a Pressure Balancing Orifice in its balls which allows the medium to permeate the cavity within the valve at linepressure to moisten and prevent deterioration of valves left stationary for long periods of time.

FULLY CLOSED POSITION (Figure 3)In the fully closed position, the solid ball surface completely blocks the valve fluidpassage and upstream line pressure exerts force upon the floating ball, pressing it into the downstream hardthermoplastic ball seal. With the ball’s slight axial displacement toward the downstream seal, the upstream ball sealbreaks contact with the ball and rides the meniscus. DMIC’s innovative Pressure Balancing Orifice in each of ourballs allows fluid at upstream pressure to permeate the entire cavity of the closed valve, getting all the way aroundto the only ball seal that is actually sealing, and even behind it. A precision ridge machined opposite the ball seat ofDMIC’s Ball Seals acts as an additional surface upon which full line pressure is exerted, improving both low and highpressure sealing in DMIC Ball Valves relative to ordinary brands. For lower pressures (<1500 PSI) and vacuum,DMIC’s softer PTFE Teflon Ball Seals are recommended.

PARTIALLY CLOSED POSITION (Figure 2)When the handle is turned from the 0° position, the tab at the bottom of the spindle causes the ball to rotateproportionally and alters the ball valve assembly’s effective cross-sectional area, thereby “closing” the valve. As theangle increases between the ball fluid passage and the axis of flow, the ball, which was previously constrained to pivotradially by the spindle tab (perpendicular to the axis of flow), is now permitted to pivot axially along the hypotenuse of aright triangle drawn between the axis of flow and the ball fluid passage (with force generated upon the ball sealsproportional to the sine of the angle formed). At 90°, the sine equals one, the valve is fully closed, and all force exerted
by fluid pressure acts to move the ball against the ball seals - hence, the ball is nowfully “FLOATING” because it is free to pivot against and exert a force upon eitherdownstream ball seal in response to forces arising from pressure at the upstreamclosed port.

DMIC’s Multiway and ManifoldMounted Ball Valves introduce apressure drop component becauseinstead of a straight fluid path, media
must change direction as it travels through the valve. We have included valve pressure drop curves for each principal type of DMICspecialty ball valve. All flows quoted in this section taken with petroleum based fluid, 150 SUS, at 100°F (38°C).
Pressure Drop of DMIC Specialty Ball ValvesDMIC’s specialty Ball Valves are precision designed to maximize available cross sectional area and minimize the protrusion ofparts throughout internal fluid passages.
However, the nature of DMIC’s trunnion ball multiway valves and manifold mounted valves, results in a pressure drop componentthat should be taken into account when designing circuits bearing these valve types. DMIC’s quality oriented engineering biasresults in valves which cost more to manufacture but provide among the best performance available among like valves in the field.
Please verify your application’s operating conditions to confirm that the pressure drop is accounted for in your system design.
Determining Pressure Dropat a Specific Flow Rate
DMIC’s unrestricted bore ballvalves provide a fluid path whichin most cases imposes nodiscernible pressure drop instandard hydraulic circuits. As aresult, you can treat our valves asjust a like length of fluid line, unlessyou are working with closed loop orother fancy circuits where a tinypressure drop carries a price tag inheat generation, etc.
The selection chart at right may beused as a guide for confirming yourchoice of ball valve/fluid line sizerelative to the expected flow in U.S.GPM at a given velocity.

One Year Limited Warranty
DELAWARE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES CORPORATION, HEREINAFTER REFERRED TO AS DMIC, WARRANTS ITS PRODUCTS(CONSUMABLE ITEMS EXCEPTED) TO BE FREE FROM DEFECTS IN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP, UNDER NORMAL USE ANDSERVICE, FOR A PERIOD OF SIX MONTHS FROM DATE OF INITIAL USE, OR ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF SHIPMENT FROM FACTORY,WHICHEVER IS FIRST. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY IS EFFECTIVE ONLY IF THE EQUIPMENT OR APPARATUS IS USED AS DIRECTED, ISNOT SUBJECTED TO MISUSE, NEGLIGENCE, OR ACCIDENT, AND IS NOT ALTERED, TREATED, OR REPAIRED BY ANYONE OTHERTHAN DMIC TECHNICAL STAFF.
THE BUYER’S EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR BREACH OF THIS LIMITED WARRANTY SHALL BE, AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF DMIC,EITHER REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE NON-CONFORMING MATERIAL BY DMIC, OR REIMBURSEMENT BY DMIC FOR THEPRICE OF SAID NON-CONFORMING MATERIAL. IN ORDER TO OBTAIN SAID REMEDY, THE BUYER SHALL DELIVER WRITTEN NOTICEOF THE ALLEGED BREACH AND REQUEST A RETURN GOODS AUTHORIZATION (“RGA”) FROM DMIC. THE BUYER SHALL RETURNTHE NON-CONFORMING MATERIAL TO DMIC FREIGHT PREPAID WITHIN THIRTY DAYS AFTER THE BUYER HAS BEEN GRANTED THERGA.
NO INCIDENTAL, PROXIMATE, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR OTHER DAMAGES SHALL BE RECOVERABLE. DMIC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FORCONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR CONTINGENT LIABILITIES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, LOSS OF LIFE, PERSONAL INJURY, LOSSOF CROPS, LOSS DUE TO FIRE OR WATER PROPERTY DAMAGE, AND CONSEQUENTIAL TRADE OR OTHER COMMERCIAL LOSS ARISINGOUT OF THE FAILURE OF THE DMIC PRODUCT.
ALL WARRANTIES EXPRESS OR IMPLIED ARE SET FORTH IN THIS LIMITED WARRANTY; THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES WHICHEXTEND BEYOND THE DESCRIPTION ON THE FACE OF THIS SAID LIMITED WARRANTY. DMIC MAKES NO WARRANTIES OFFREEDOM FROM PATENT INFRINGEMENT, OR MERCHANTABILITY, OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR ARISING FROM ACOURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE OR OTHER LIKE OR DIFFERENT EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES, EXCEPT ASMADE ABOVE.
