How to Install SAP Netweaver 2004s ABAP Edition on Your Local PC

Summary

This article provides a detailed guide for downloading and installing the SAP Netweaver2004s ABAP Edition, and then subsequently running a WebDynpro ABAP Application. Withinthis Edition, Web Dynpro for ABAP Technology is available for the first time. Web DynproABAP offers you all the advantages of SAP's next generation UI technology: Use its model-driven approach to minimize manual coding and take advantage of visual tools to design andreuse UI components. Web Dynpro is based on a powerful and flexible Model-View-Controllerarchitecture that assures a clear separation of user interfaces and back-end services. Youhave full control of the generated code at all stages of the development process.

Prerequisites

System Requirements

• Operating System: Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 1) or Windows Server2003

• NTFS-File systems

• Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Firefox 1.0 or higher

• At least 1 GB RAM

• Intel Pentium III/1.1 GHz or higher (or compatible)

• 13 GB hard disk space recommended

• High-resolution monitor (1024x768 or higher, 256 colors)

• Sun Microsystems J 2SE SDK version 1.4.2_08 (Sun J DK 1.5 not tested)

• Please click on J 2SE SDK version 1.4.2_08 installation if you need to install thissoftware.

• If you have already installed SAP products on your computer, you must ensure thatnone of the systems are called "NSP".

• The file C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\services (Windows 2000) orC:\Windows\system\32\drivers\etc\services (Windows XP) must not include an entryfor the ports 3201, 3601 and 50000 to 50030. A possible entry can be excluded byusing the hash symbol (#).

J2SE 1.4.2_08 SDK

The installer needs this SDK to provide a solid performance. If there is no SDK on yourcomputer you need to install this first. Check this by searching your local disk drive for‘j2sdk1.4.2_xx’-directory. If there is no SDK you have to accesshttp://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html to install J 2SE SDK version 1.4.2_08.

How to Download the Software

From the homepage of SAP Developer Network (SDN) https://www.sdn.sap.com, choose‘Downloads’ from the menu. From the SDN Download Catalog, choose Web ApplicationServer and then SAP Evaluation Software to find the Sneak Preview ABAP Edition.

Once you accept the terms of the download license, download the file from SDN and unzipthe downloaded file contents in a separate directory. It should look like the following picture.

Preparing the Installation

Double click on start.bat to start the installation overview page. Click on Installation on theright hand side.

Click on SAP Netweaver 2004s Sneak Preview ABAP to lead you to the entry point of the

navigation.

Click on Installer to start the procedure.

Click on Open to start the SAPinst .

components (for example, installation libraries) that provide the actual installationfunctionality.

The installation process consists of dialogs for user input and installation actions (create userc11adm, copy file whatever . dl l , for example). Within the XML installation control files of SAPinst, these dialogs and installation actions are organized in components that can installentire software packages (installation of the J 2EE Engine, installation of the Internet Transaction Server (ITS), for example).

SAPinst has a graphical user interface (GUI) called SAPinst GUI that allows you to monitorthe progress of the installation and see all messages issued by SAPinst. Since the SAPinstGUI is based on Java, you need a J ava Runtime Environment (J RE).

Select Run a new installation and press the OK-button. Read the license agreement carefullyand press the Next-button. The edition must have the SAP system ID NSP .

Press Next .

Select Local installalation and press Next .

Enter passwords for SAP Sytem Administrator ,SAP System Service User, Database SystemAdministrator, and Database Manager Operator.

Leave the default values in the fields and press Next .

Choose a directory for the database and set the parameter Minimum Log Size to 100MB.

Press Next .

Select the same directory one more time and set the parameter Minimum Data Size to

9000MB. Press Next .Enter a password for the Database Schema.

Leave the default values in the fields and press Next .

The system now resumes with a parameter summary where you can check the parametersentered thus far one more time. Press Start to start the installation.

Running the Installation

Now the real installation process is started. After several hours your SAPinst should look likethe next picture

Now you have a running system on your PC. Press OK to finish SAPinst.

Preparing the SAP Logon for NSP

Create a new entry in the SAP Logon window for the NSP system.

If you have no SAP GUI you can download the software fromhttps://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/downloaditem?rid=/library/uuid/cfc19866-0401-0010-35b2-dc8158247fb6and run the installation procedure.

Starting the SAP Logon

Select the new create entry NSP and click Log on to start the SAP GUI for the logon in aseparate window.

Logon to System

Two users are preinstalled in the NSP system. The BCUSER user is for developmentpurposes and has a validity of 30 days. The DDIC user is for administrative purposes. Youcan order a trial license for free from http://www.sap.com/solutions/netweaver/minisap.epx that is valid for 90 days. There is a separate guide for this process. Logon with the BCUSERuser and leave the field for the language blank.

Invoking the Object Navigator

Enter se80 as transaction code for starting the Object Navigator.

The Object Navigator is started.

Running a Web Dynpro Appl ication

Select Web-Dynpro-Comp/Intf from the available object list.

Select WDT_QUIZ in the input field for the Web Dynpro Component and press Enter .

The object tree fromWDT_QUIZ is displayed. Expand the Web Dynpro Applications folder.

Open the context menu of wdt_quiz and select Test . Go through the logon procedure withuser BCUSER and the related password.

Finally the Web Dynpro Application is started in a separate browser window. Now you cannavigate with the buttons on the views as it is designed in the Web Dynpro Component.
