Position 1 – Biodiversity (Science Graduate) Environment and Climate Change
Location: CBD /CBD / TBA
The graduate will have an opportunity to work across a range of projects and programs within Biodiversity Division of the Environment and Climate Change Group (ECC), Catchments, Waterways, Cities and Towns Division (Waterway Health team) of the Water and Catchments group (WCG) and in a regional placement potentially with a Traditional Owner Corporation.
The position would suit a science graduate who is keen to pursue a career in areas of biodiversity (terrestrial and freshwater), natural resource management and supporting Traditional Owner participating in natural resource management.
Both Division works with portfolio partners, local communities and external stakeholders to develop effective evidence-based policies, program and responses to biodiversity conservation, management and Country outcomes. Particular focus is on understanding the benefits of management actions, and improving our knowledge and decision-making processes, including how diverse types of knowledge is translated to policy and decision-making.
Valuable attributes of the position may include: skills in planning and implementing projects, developing evidence-based advice and analysis, monitoring and reporting, prioritising actions, supporting Traditional Knowledge and self-determination, conceptual modelling and data analysis and working collaboratively within a team and across a range of areas. This position will provide an opportunity to develop a good understanding of how government works, considering end to end processes in design, decision making, resolving uncertainty, monitoring and reporting.

The first rotation will focus on: terrestrial biodiversity policy and programs, with an emphasis on the translation of knowledge and research to biodiversity policy, programs and evidence-based decision making.
The second rotation will focus on: contributing to the development of policies and programs to improve river, estuary and wetland health, particularly with regard to: research and monitoring, and science related policy development.
This rotation will focus on: working in a regional context. This may potentially be located at a Traditional Owner Corporation.

Position 4 – Graduate Civil Engineer (Forest Fire and Regions)Location: Gippsland
The Civil Engineer will work with other engineers to ensure that state forest road and bridge construction and coastal infrstructure, improvement, replacement and maintenance programs across the state is carried out efficiently and effectively to professional engineering standards and in accordance with existing legislation, policies, plans and Codes of Practice. You will use your Civil Engineering skills in roads, bridges and coasts to support forest and fire operations and coastal infrastructure on public land in Victoria.
During the first rotation the graduate will focus on working with other engineers on the state-wide state forest road and bridge construction, improvement and replacement and maintenance programs.
The graduate will gain experience in: road and bridge construction, inspections, maintenance.
During the second rotation the graduate will focus on: working with other engineers on the regional implementation of the state forest road and bridge construction, improvement and replacement and maintenance programs.

During the third rotation the graduate will focus on: working with other engineers on the coastal infrastructure along the Victoria coast on public land.

Position 9 – Science Graduate Officer (Geospatial, Local Infrastructure)Location: CBD
An exciting graduate opportunity exists within the strategic land assessment and information division of land use Victoria. The Strategic Land Assessment and Information (SLAI) division includes four branches, the valuer general Victoria (VGV), the office of surveyor general Victoria (OSGV), land information and spatial services (LISS), and government land advice and coordination (GLAC). These branches perform a broad range of functions from service delivery include some statutory responsibilities in the VGV and OSGV which are expected to lead significant reporting lines. The GLAC and LISS branches include substantial new functions and are expected to lead significant reform and transformation in the medium term.
During the first rotation you will focus on spatial data schemas and the analysis of the gaps and enhancements required for Victoria’s core spatial products and services, Vic map. The graduate will gain experience in, understanding the data structures, models and dictionaries within the Vic map portfolio and the management of core spatial data through its lifecycle. Analysing and Vic map data models and schemas in alignment with product roadmaps and to improve interoperability. Vicmap change management process and data validation techniques.
During the second rotation there will be a focus on existing and potential customers of Vicmap. The graduate will gain experience in the coordinated imagery program (CIP) which undertakes the collection of Ariel survey and remote sensing data to support the delivery of framework raster data products and services. They will also focus on the management of Ariel photography and LIDAR data. The application of image analysis and GIS software. You will also work with cloud hosted spatial applications and database management.
During the third rotation the graduate will focus on the application of the DCM project, which is a major deliverable for Land Use Victoria upgrade the accuracy of the states authoritative map of property boundaries (cadastre), to dependant datasets such as Vicmap planning.
The graduate will gain experience in understanding and applying internal change management process as it applies to significant data upgrades. The technical implications of the project and how the cadastre impacts vicmap data products and other derived datasets.

The Land Information and Spatial Services (LISS) branch delivers a unique range of services and functions including DELWP core spatial data services, an industry engagement function which seeks to improve the value delivered by spatial and government land datasets. And a digital innovation team that is leading the agile delivery of digital services to improve access to government land information.
The graduate will focus on data analytics and business intelligence and rotate through three key roles. Vic map strategy (data owner), within a DELWP division (data customer) and within local government authority (data custodian), whilst gaining knowledge and understanding of the broader partnerships within DELWP.
During the first rotation you will focus on analysing customer insights and business intelligence metrics to drive change in Vic map. The graduate will gain experience through working use of Vic map within the department through customer engagement, survey design and interviews. Collate and analyse data to generate infographics and contribute towards spatial product and service roadmaps. And also develop dashboard reporting using data studio and Tableau.
During the second rotation will focus on existing and potential customers of Vic map. The graduate will gain experience in the following; the use of Vic map products and services within the customers business applications and processes, including their use during fire and other emergency incidents. Sourcing and management of Vic map data within the customers business. Gap analysis of Vic map data within key customers business processes. Customer insights into the need for future Vic map products like emergency data share Victoria and Vic map utilities for incident management.
In the third rotation you will focus on understanding the value and use of DELWPS core spatial data from the perspective of a key customer. The graduate will gain experience in applying knowledge of fundamental concepts, theory and applications of spatial information and positioning technologies. Applied understanding about data integration, distributed spatial computing and mapping, web mapping and location-based services.
Practical application on Vic maps products and build awareness of the data model structures.
Position 11 – Environmental Planner – Assessor (Science Graduate) PlanningLocation: CBD / CBD / Geelong
The Environmental Planner – Assessor (Science Graduate) will work across both regional service delivery and head office roles. They will develop a well-rounded knowledge of environmental planning and environmental impact assessment, as well as working in government policy development and land use decision making.
During the first rotation the graduate will spend time in head office where they will focus on statutory policy and policy implementation, policy and project support to environmental and natural resource priority initiatives, advice to a variety of stakeholders on policy, statutory and land issues, state-wide planning scheme amendments and strategic plans. The graduate will gain experience in working in government and the roles of the land use planning system to deliver government policy objectives, including community resilience to natural hazards such as bushfire and flooding, and understanding government priorities and policy development processes.

During the second rotation, the graduate will have the opportunity to develop skills and experience in environmental impact assessment (EIA) for large projects across Victoria. The role will support the Minister for planning and government to assess and make timely, informed decisions on projects with potentially significant environmental effects. This will involve engaging with proponents to evaluate and refine their proposals efficiently in effective community input and environmental policy. It will also assist the team in providing advice on the integrated assessment of impacts, particularly working with agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to project assessment and statutory process.
During the final rotation the graduate will work in the Barwon South West office (Geelong) where they will focus on providing advice to the minister for planning on the planning scheme amendments and developments projects for the Barwon South West region. The graduate will gain experience in assessing a variety of projects and issues against state and local planning policy.
Position 12 – Project Officer Emergency Management
Location: Attwood / Tatura / Attwood
The position will work as part of the Emergency Management Team within Biosecurity and Agriculture Services branch reporting to the Manager Emergency Response and Preparedness.
The position suits a science or agriculture graduate who is keen to embark on a career in the area of agricultural and biosecurity emergency management.
The position requires: skills in planning and implementing project work; analysing data and producing summary reports; the ability to work cooperatively whilst collaborating with staff across work areas; the ability to be flexible in working within reprioritised project tasks and in emergency responses. Good people skills are very important in working within the branch and with other stakeholders.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain experience of emergency management within Agriculture Victoria by contributing to the delivery of a multi-year Emergency Management Reform project.
The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a state team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across Agriculture Victoria, in particular within Biosecurity and Agriculture Services branch (BAS).
The position will also work with staff in other emergency management functional areas of DJPR and Victorian emergency management partner agencies.
Position 13 – Project Officer, Digital Engagement (Agriculture Services)Location: Epsom / Kerang / Benalla
The Project Officer, Digital Engagement (Agriculture Services) will make a key contribution to Agriculture Victoria’s delivery of services to the grains, livestock and irrigation industries using digital technologies, providing farmers and industry with real-time, up-to-date information to complement existing delivery methods.

The position will also assist with supporting the training and development of staff within Agriculture Services in the use of digital technology and social media to enhance current delivery methods.
The successful applicant will have well-developed communication and stakeholder management skills, including social and digital media experience, along with a sound understanding of agriculture production systems.

Position 14 – Project Officer, Climate Risk (Agriculture Services)Location: Rutherglen / Warrnambool / Bairnsdale
The Project Officer, Climate Risk (Agriculture Services) will make a key contribution to Agriculture Victoria’s design, development and delivery of services to the meat, wool and dairy industries associated with climate change and adaptation. Underpinned by a strong technical understanding of climate change policy and science, the Project Officer will use a range of mediums to design and engage service providers and farmers to improve the understanding and management of risks and opportunities associated with a changing climate across Victoria.
The position will also assist Agriculture Services training efforts for developing climate change capability opportunities for staff to improve understanding of the latest climate change science and solutions. The Project Officer will be involved in activities to enhance staff and service provider awareness in new service delivery methods for adaptation in Victorian agriculture, and will also develop an understanding of agriculture and climate policy development and analysis.
The successful applicant will have well developed communication and stakeholder management skills, a strong understanding of agriculture and rural industries, climate change knowledge and experience in social and digital media.

on a career in urban renewal and city shaping projects. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain a diverse range of experiences within the Precincts and Suburbs Group including working on priority precincts, such as Arden and Fishermans Bend, and Suburban Rail Loop.
The position requires: skills in planning and implementing project work; analysing policy and data and producing summary reports; the ability to work cooperatively whilst collaborating with staff across work areas; the ability to be flexible in working within reprioritised project tasks. Position 16 – Animal Health OfficerLocation: Attwood/Bendigo / TBC / TBC
As an Animal Health Officer you will work as a member of the Animal Health and Welfare (AHW) Unit, to ensure the delivery of major animal health projects that include disease surveillance; livestock legislation and enforcement management; emergency preparedness and response; and traceability and auditing.
Animal Health Officers are required to fulfil surveillance and auditing roles which provide knowledge of the disease and residue status of Victoria’s livestock industries. This information is a key component in maintaining access to markets for Victorian livestock and livestock products, and in mitigating the economic and social effects of disease and residue incidents in Victoria.
The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the division, involving;
Management of animal welfare risks Disease surveillance Domestic and Export certification National Livestock Identification System auditing Preparedness and response to animal disease outbreaks Response to animal welfare issues.
A rotation within the Chief Veterinary Officers Unit will provide you with experience and insights into animal health and welfare related national and jurisdictional policy and legislation development, data management and analysis, industry stakeholder engagement and extension, and compliance planning and regulation.
