This publication is designed to help map the first steps in the journey toward your dreams. It highlights the wide variety of career and technical programs at Dixie County High School and their possible routes to postsecondary fields. Career PathwaysCareer pathways is a 4+ (2 or 4) years of study where four years of high school are linked with two to four years of college. The students earn an Associate of Science (two year) degree and/or continue to also earn a Bachelor’s (four-year) degree. 80 percent of available jobs require nearly 14 years (high school plus at least two years) or formal education.

Agricultural Program
N ow more than ever, technological and economic factors are changing the way Americans and people around the world view the importance of Agriculture. The purpose of the Agri-
technology program is to provide students the opportunity to expe-rience and learn about the issues that affect Agriculture today. The Agritechnology program is an exciting curriculum designed to prepare the students for active employment and post-secondary training in the fields of Agriscience and Agribusiness. The course Agriscience Foundations 1 counts as a science credit toward graduation.

FFA is the student organization of the Agritechnology pro-gram. Contest areas include forestry, parliamentary pro-cedure, public speaking, tractor driving, livestock judging, and land judging. FFA membership is available to all agri-technology students.

Automotive Service Technology Program
The automotive Technology Program prepares students for employment in automotive industry. The program includes instruction in repair of these automotive
systems; Electrical/Electronics, Brakes, suspension & Steering, Engine Performance, and Computer Diagnostics. This program is NATEF accredited and the instructors is “Master” certified by ASE. Upon completion of each coursel isted below, students are encouraged to take the ASE Certification available for that course.

Skills USA - Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, Inc. mem-bership is available to all students enrolled in the Automotive or Welding Technology Programs. Skills USA provides leadership training experiences and reinforces specific vocational skills.

One of the largest concentrations of the employment oppor-tunities is business. The Business Technology Program is designed to include integrated classroom instruction with
an emphasis on math and communications to teach students to demonstrate critical thinking skills, team work, and leadership.The curriculum includes the numerous computer skills that are needed today in most professions. This program provides win-win benefits for everyone.

Health Science Academy
The health program is one of the fastest growing occupational areas in North Central Florida. Health Science is an exciting program designed to prepare students for employment and post-secondary education in
health related careers. The program includes integrated classroom instruc-tion, laboratory practice, clinical and shadowing experience in selected health care settings. The Health Science Program is available for ALL DCHS students entering 10th grade. All Health Science students must complete a three or four year program of study that includes vocational and aca-demic components. All Health Science students are required to complete a career exit point and participate in patient care/clinical requirements in 12th grade. Students who pass the Florida state Certified Nursing exam are registered with the Florida Board of Nursing

Welding Academy
The Welding Program prepares students for employ-ment as welding machine setter/operators or setters helpers as well as for post-secondary training in a variety
of occupations in the welding industry. The program includes employability skills, safety, reading blueprints, identifying metals, gas welding, and shielded metal/gas arc welding.

Bright Futures Florida Gold Seal
The Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars award rec-ognizes and rewards excellence for academic achieve-ment and vocational preparation. The award program
includes an annual award of approximately 75% of tuition and fee costs for students enrolled in a Florida public uni-versity, community college, area vocational center or ac-credited private post-secondary vocational, technical, trade or business school. Gold Seal awards cover 90 credit hours of a post-secondary program and may be renewed through the Merit Scholar Program if the student is accepted into a 4 - year university.

A Scholarship may be made to an initial applicant who:
• Earns a minimum cumulative weighted grade point average of 3.0 (based on the Bright Futures Scholarship Program Weighting System) in all subjects required by the state of Florida for high school gradua-tion, excluding electives.*• Completes the high school portion of a sequential program of study that requires at least 3 secondary vocational credits (excluding OJT);• Earns a minimum unweighted grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for secondary vocational courses comprising the vocational program. The grade point average will be calculated using a mini-mum of three vocational program credits taken. If the vocational program includes “core” courses, these grades must be used in calcu-lating the program GPA;• Demonstrates readiness for post-secondary education by earning a passing score on the Florida College Entry Placement Test (CPT) or its equivalent, i.e. SAT or ACT; and• Annual renewal of the award is based on the student maintaining a 2.75 cumulative college GPA and required credit hours.
