been determined as of yet. Good luck to next year’s captains and thanks to all for stepping up to accept the role.

The Handicap Committee had a successful year monitoring our clubs posting of scores, which is a requirement by Golf Canada.

The PGCC is above average in posting scores. Good job to you all for posting your scores. Thanks to Barney Bernard and his Committee for their tireless efforts. A special thanks to Mike Arnett for compiling the handicap reports and statistics for the Committee.

Our in-house tournaments were well attended and thanks to all the organizers and volunteers who made them possible.

The PGCC has a very active membership with many activities for golfers of any skill level to enjoy. In 2020 sign up for a men’s night, ladies day, seniors day or Wednesday night ladies. You might be surprised just how much fun you can have!

Ladies Club

Minus 8 Celsius overnight, a sunny day, one and half hour frost delay, no wind and some ice on the ponds. This was the scenario of the last Tuesday Ladies Day of the season. And some of us, all bundled up ventured out and played 18 relaxing holes.

All of the cups, trophies and plaques the ladies played for during the year are engraved with the winners’ names and back in their place: lady locker room walls or trophy case. Congratulations to all the winners!

One of our members participated in the BC Senior Games and Gail Johnson came home with another gold medal won in her flight and age group. “Well done Gail”!!

Early October the fall team event: a mystery scramble, was held followed by the end of the year meeting. This usually signals the end of the organized Tuesday ladies Days. For next year there will be some changes: after 4 years I am stepping down as Captain and Janice Clary with help

from Patty Metcalf as her Vice-Captain will run the Ladies Club and Tuesday ladies Day. I am certain that both of them will do a great job organizing and keeping both running smoothly.

The Ladies club will also have a new treasurer: Karen St. Martin has offered to count our pennies. Kathy Hofmann will still be our secretary and Laura Mansell will once again help out doing the scoring.

In closing: my 4 years have been a learning curve and I acquired a new golf vocabulary and knowledge. I had a great mentor in Sherry who at times needed to calm me down and always offered a helping hand when needed. THANK YOU! Sherry. No more knock, knocks on Guy’s door when I had another question or issue I needed to have answered or explained. Thank you Guy for all your help and support. Not to forget Val’s patience when I was running back and forth to the copy machine. And Franz, always willing to give us “easier” pin placements when asked. I certainly now appreciate more the dedication and all the work done by the previous captains.

I will stay Interclub Representative. Always a really enjoyable way to play other courses in the south Okanagan and meet lady members of those clubs. We had lots of ladies sign up this years. Penticton ended up in 4th place.

Save travels to everyone leaving Penticton during the winter months.

I am looking forward to see everybody back for another, now “relaxing” golf season.

Men’s Club

Well…another year of great golf has come to an end. The Men's club has done exceptionally well this year, and with all the support from all of our great sponsors Men's Night was a huge success.

I have decided to run one more year as your Cub Captain with the help of Jim Fortier, Terry Montgomery, Marc Tougas and Gary Perkins. With their support, we will keep this Men's Club one of the best in Canada.

I would like to thank the Men's Club members who come out week after week and support Men's Night. With your help we were are able to make course improvements next year by adding new ball washers and garbage cans throughout the course and possibly fix the flower bed behind the 10th green. With these course improvements, everyone can experience a great time while golfing at our beautiful golf course.

Thanks to Franz and the ground crew for keeping our Golf Course in great shape all year long. Good job Guys!!! I would also like to thank the Pro Shop staff for all their help throughout the year especially my favorite lady Wendy McKee who does so much every Thursday to make Men's Night the success it is. Thanks to the Kitchen and bar staff for their great service. And last but not least, thank-you to the office staff. Guy, Vicki and Val who help me through this endeavor as Club Captain year after year.

I would like to wish everybody all the best this Festive Season and hope everyone has a Safe and Happy New Year!!! See you in the spring!!!

Senior Men’s Club Another successful Senior Men’s Club season has ended. We enjoyed 27 events that averaged 105 golfers--that is nearly 4000 rounds of golf and 1400 prizes. We have 204 Senior Men’s club members that brought over 150 guests to our club. The club also donated to the following: Tee Up for Cancer, Junior Program, Ladies Pro Shop Open, Staff Christmas Party, and PGCC Equipment.

We could not have enjoyed any of this without the efforts of the following:

The office staff of Guy Dow, Valerie Hall, and

Vicki Howson

The golf shop staff of Kris Paul-Clark, Rio

McLeod, Matt Jones, and Wendy McKee

The club storage staff of Gord Booth, Barry

Erickson, and Bob Tucker

Franz Unterberger and his greens crew

Don Cameron and serving staff

Chef Ron and his staff

Bruce Johnston counting and distributing our

money

Tony Manzi for donating many gifts for our final

event and AGM

Norm Gettel for recruiting hole sponsors

Gary Wilson for running the most organized Sr.

Men’s Tournament in the Okanagan Valley

We truly appreciate the work everyone does to make our Wednesday so enjoyable.

After the AGM, a few changes will occur next year. The deuce pot will be three categories instead of two (thanks again to Ron Gladish for all the research). As well, any of our members can request to play the forward tees of their choice with the hope that they will be encouraged to continue to participate in our weekly events. Unfortunately, none of us can hold off the march of Father Time! Finally, the last event of the year will be adjusted to include prizes. Bill Murray is still working on the sponsor who is willing to donate $1.2 million in prize money for the final event. We are all pulling for you Bill!

Super News

It seems like yesterday we were gearing up to open. And next thing you know…we are slowly putting the course to bed. The summer went by very quickly and old man winter seems to be knocking on the door a little earlier this year, hopefully we get a few more decent weeks of weather!

As I mentioned, we are slowly putting the course to bed, 2 holes on each green are now out and mats are on the par 3’s. We have continued to sod select areas more notably a section on 5 by the cart path and behind 8 green. We have also reattached the fence on 11 which was in dire need of attention and seems to be holding up well even with a blast of 80 km hr. winds a little while ago!

By the time this is published we will have blown out the irrigation system and close to applying out final spray for the winter. Lots of tree work happening in the future once the ground freezes as well.

Lastly a big thanks to the maintenance crew it has been a very successful year and the course wouldn’t operate without all of you. I hope to see a few of you on the slopes up at Apex over the winter.

The hole in one club is down considerable from last year. Last year, as of October 18th, we had 24 hole in one members. Only 11 for this year?!

Director of Golf/General Manager Leaves are falling, irrigation lines being cleared and final

winter application applied to the greens, tees and

fairways indicates the golf season is drawing to an end.

With our late start of March 26th the PGCC was again

busy throughout the season while enjoying some of the

best course conditions in our history.

PGCC is again offering reduced green fees of $37 for 18

holes which play an important part in the clubs overall

operation.

The Food/Beverage area has continued a steady growth

with the support from our members, guests and the

non-golfers that frequent the Blue Heron.

This time of the year also will be the start of our

Christmas parties with numerous events scheduled for

December.

The Golf Shop currently has great end of season

clearance deals in all departments. This is a great time

to use any gift cards at these reduced prices. The Golf

Shop appreciates that you have many choices for your

golf apparel, equipment and gift giving needs, and we

hope you continue to think of us.

The Golf Shop is continually offering new items for your

pleasure. We have a great selection of Under Armour

and Columbia cold weather gear and our Projekt

luggage has now arrived.

Please enjoy the rest of the season, and feel free to

offer us any feedback you have!

Director of Golf/General Manager

Golf Club Art

Gary Wilson has done a great job enhancing the appearance of our dining rooms with art installations featuring local artists. Currently we have an exhibition by the Federation of Canadian Artists, South Okanagan Similkameen Chapter. A tour of the building shows we have some real talent close to home. If you find a style you enjoy, fell free to phone the artist as they usually have a number of others works that they would love to share with you. You might even recognize some of our member’s names.

If you have an art enthusiast on your Christmas shopping list, please come by as we have some great decorative pieces to enhance any home.

The next show will start in February through to April with a whole new batch of amazing artworks to enhance our facility.
