In May, kindergarten had a great time exploring the amazing world of di-

nosaurs that once lived on the land millions of years ago. We have also continued to learn all

about spring weather, new growth and spring animal babies. In Math, we have been learning

about the 3-D shapes, as well as measurement. We also introduced the concept of tally marks,

colour and number words, and addition which will be continued to the end of the school

year. In June, we will continue to explore all things spring, including insects and plants as a

part of our literacy and science curriculum. We will also focus on more addition strategies and

continue to learn about the 3-D shapes in the month of June.

All parents are cordially invited to the Kindergarten Graduation on Friday, June 21st to cele-

brate the successful completion of Kindergarten. The last day for Kindergarten students is on

June 20th. Ms. Kaur and Ms. Chidley would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the par-

ents for their support and cooperation throughout the year!

Kind Regards,

Ms. Kaur and Ms. Chidley

For literacy, we will be focusing on our last genre of writing. Our last genre will be based on poet-ry. Students will learn to express ideas verbally by creating rich images with language that arise from the senses and emotions. Students will be able to engage in personal explanation. Also, they will share poems orally as well as in written form. For math, we will be working on our Data Relationships unit. Students will learn how to collect, display, and analyze data to solve problems. Students will be working with bar graphs, picto-graphs, and concrete graphs. For science, we will be focusing on our “Magnetism” unit. In this unit students will be able to iden-tify where magnets are used and why they are used. We will also distinguish materials that are attracted to magnets from those that are not. For social studies, we are continuing learning about Meteghan, Saskatoon and Iqaluit. We will be focusing on our fourth unit, which “Looking at You”. Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of how geography, culture, language, heritage, economics, and resources shape and change Canada’s communities. Mrs. Salmon and Ms.Gill

We are approaching the tail end of the school year! We cannot believe how time has flown and these

students of ours will soon be entering into division two next year. Let us share with you what your son

or daughter has been learning and what they will be learning for the rest of the school year. In Literacy,

we are very proud of our success in descriptive writing. We learned a lot and worked hard on paragraph

writing and summarizing through descriptive texts. Students are learning Expository writing and are

working on Animal Research projects. We will also practice the structure of non-fiction poems. In Math,

students have completed their Fractions unit and will finish off the year with the Geometry and Data

Analysis. Both units will focus on describing 3 -D objects according to the shape of the faces and the

number of edges and vertices, and collecting first-hand data and organize it using: construct, label and

interpret bar graphs to solve problems. In Science, students have started the Animal Life Cycle unit. Our

butterflies have arrived. Students are taking a hands on approach to this unit. Students are closely fol-

lowing the different stages of a butterfly life cycle. We will also explore the life cycle of a frog. In Social,

students are currently studying India exploring the different sights and sounds of this culture. Students

were able to experience familiar and new facts about India, learning about its rich history and traditions.

The unit will conclude with a PowerPoint presentation in which students will present to each other. It has

been an amazing year with these students and it has been our pleasure to teach these bright minds!

Let’s finish well by putting first things first. You can do it, grade 3s!
