DESCRIPTION

Prompt: Write a scene in which a group of friends get together—to watch a football game, to attend a baby shower. Imagine they share a secret or bad experience of some kind from their past that no one ever discusses. Keep the secret—a robbery in which they all took part, a trip to Florida that went out of control—on the fringe of the discussion, bringing it up slowly until finally it’s out in the open.

Diving into the Deep Prompt: I once dated a guy whose brother said, Friends are just people who borrow things. I remember thinking how incredibly lonely the guy must feel or how friends in his past must have disappointed him. Begin a piece of writing with a sweeping assertion about the nature of friendship from a character, then develop your statement or refute it, or just go where it leads you. Sometimes its fun and illuminating to write without an end in mind. Prompt: Write a scene in which a group of friends get togetherto watch a football game, to attend a baby shower. Imagine they share a secret or bad experience of some kind from their past that no one ever discusses. Keep the secreta robbery in which they all took part, a trip to Florida that went out of controlon the fringe of the discussion, bringing it up slowly until finally its out in the open. Prompt: - Read A Good Man is Hard to Find A family, perhaps one based loosely on your own family, heads off in the car for vacation or for a day-trip. Describe what happens. The scenario is a classic one in American literature and movies. Two examples that come quickly to mind are John Barths short story, Lost in the Funhouse, and Flannery OConnors short story A Good Man is Hard to Find. Read one or both of these stories as models for handling this situation. Unfortunately, neither of these trips turns out well for the family. If you have a cheerier trip in mind, youll want to look elsewhere. 1)At least two well-developed characters (think Grandma and June Star. The Misfit is pretty developed too. 2)A couple of background characters think Bailey, the son and John Wesley, the grandson. 3)A vacation to a specific destination 4)Something unforeseen happens 5)The family is changed somehow.
